First podcast of the year and we are blessed to have Tāmaki Makaurau’s king pin Eli Hoff on board! Producer and Dj, Eli is undoubtedly at the forefront of Aotearoa’s underground dance scene. Fast, vicious, tribalistic and psychedelic are key words to describe his productions that are widely used on dance floors around the world as we speak. With upmost support from mastro Patrik Skoog and releases under his belt with Gypnotica Records, Ghetto Rhythm and Rave your soul, Eli’s mark on the local and global underground dance scene is most definitely notable. "Δαίμων Εαυτού" for the ancient Greeks was the deity-protector who lived inside each person from birth to death, something like today's "Guardian-angel" and the correct translation of the phrase basically means "I act according to what my conscience thinks is right".
The title was not chosen at random. It is a phrase in ancient Greeks that precisely defines his inner world and his choice not to be imprisoned in stereotypes and "must do" that do not characterise him as a human being. We would say that he has always been absolute in his beliefs and the values ​​that he think we need in a society to be able to express our respect and our love, our humility and our honesty.

We are glad to welcome our friend Francesco Belfiore from Roma. Francesco is a Dj, live performer, producer and he specializes in modular techno. He has recently released an Ep on Semantica Records and also for the label Concrete Records. He's the founder of the labels Truth or Consequences and Save the Blessed, the latter known for releases by artists such as San Proper and The Analogue Cops. His music is distinguished by a minimal and hypnotic sound, characterized by intricate rhythms and complex sonic textures, reflecting the influences of the Berlin school and dub techno. His performances are a journey through pulsating rhythms and dark atmospheres.

Exit Safe Mode, a project by the visionary Margus Löve, establishing himself in Estonian technoid music, has converged its sonic baggage into the newly released debut album Immerse. The spheres created and recorded during 2008 – 2017 are travelling in ambient landscapes, while deserving to be called genuine contemporary music for its clarity of thought and musical focus. These eight themes are reminiscent of the dubstep-ish flows of Löve’s earlier projects L-OW and 1DERL& that are giving way to more idiosyncratic lines. The depth of sound manipulations allows one to discover tones of life in the synthetic analog worlds and provides a body-forsaking sideview to the interpretations of stringed instruments. The created sonorous state of Immerse serves as an introduction to more rhythmic future affairs of Exit Safe Mode.

Margus Löve has been a well known name to darktronica scientists over the years. The solo artist’s starting point after the change of millennium became the technoid end of drum&bass with the bubbling bass waves of speed garage and Löve’s style became substantially directed by dubstep that gained ground at the start of the 2000s. The name L-OW successfully propagated the bass-loving vibe at the prime time of dubstep, and in the background the dub-techno-esque parallel project 1DERL& got more and more off the ground. Founding of the label Processed in 2012 and the release of 1DERL&’s debut album became a spiritual turning point – the allure of the sounds of dubstep shifted to the background and darker soundscapes found a new home in cooler techno trances. Margus Löve has moved still deeper in the swamp of sounds with his new project Exit Safe Mode that is striving to cut through the safety nets and broaden the palette of sounds. The sounds are complemented by darker ambiences and rhythmic skeletons, while staying essentially loyal to the pulsating force of techno. It’s time to discover the shady territories beyond the untrodden tracks.
