X-Kalay are ringing in their milestone 10th release with a various artist compilation, and what a release it is. Launching only last year, the London-based imprint has put out quite a few releases already from artists such as Rudolf C, Kask and No Moon amongst others. Their sound ranges from more melodic, lo-fi sounding productions to dubbed out and downright acid-y tracks. Their 10th release features producers from three continents. Mucho Sueno from Chile, two Australians in E.Davd and Escape Artist, and finally Zurich, Switzerland-based Douala who we're premiering today.

With a couple of releases on Gnork's label Blorp, Douala has been crafting a bit of a name for himself in the lo-fi scene. Generally his productions have a more melodic flare but in this case, the A1 track Mysteries of Life strays a bit from what we've come to expect from the producer. Taking a more minimalistic and dubby approach, the single has a hypnotic air about it with an upbeat rhythm but spaced out and reverberating cosmic synths, perfect for the late night hours. This instrospective tune is not one you want to miss out on and the rest of the release is a treat as well!

@roza-terenzi  is the latest convert to the Kalahari Oyster Cult, the Australian producer debuts with four tracks showcasing her unique sound. Influences come from far and wide, shifting between electro, house, techno and even early rave anthems. The space bleeps of “Gigi” are soon interrupted by shouldering kick drums. Samples stagger and stumble before key stabs cut through beats in this hazy piece of early morning elation. “Mwah” maintains those euphoric moods. Snapping snares slice through shimmering synthwork and soaring strings to keep the night grooving. Darker tones enter with “Rare High”, but these shades are soon brightened by arcing notes. Acid lines squeak and squirm in this balancing act of disparate colours and chords. Distant lands and exotic encounters are conjured for “Soft”, perfumed percussion and meandering melodies mingle and merge for head swimming close of aromatic audio.”

Appearing on Midland’s, Graded, the ever-prolific Dark Entries as well as Optimo Trax, Solitary Dancer continue taking focus on their own Private Possessions label. Following on from last year’s ‘Rites of Passage’ LP, they emerge from two years of album-dedicated studio time, returning to the floor with three cuts of unabashed, hands-in-the-air optimism via ‘Reveries Of A Solitary Dancer’ EP.

Landing in the embrace-inducing, yet tear-worthy euphoria of the proverbial DJ vibeboard, ‘Reveries Of A Solitary Dancer’ EP begs a more existential question, bleeding into the social consciousness: “Where do we belong?”. To which the answer is simple: “Together”.

Wrapped in breakbeat etherealism, the EP is inspired by an article of the same name from Artforum’s David Velasco, in which he details the legacy of artist Adrian Piper; her extensive body of work, most notably in the field of dance. Velasco reveals Piper’s desire to “transform the mechanisms that divide people into groups”, highlighting her belief in dance spaces as conduits for reunification, during times of segregation.

Piper’s ethos is clear: “GET DOWN AND PARTY. TOGETHER.”

In honour of Adrian Piper and her vital work aiding Black communities, a portion of the proceeds from ‘Reveries Of A Solitary Dancer’ EP will be donated to the Adrian Piper Research Archive Foundation.
