Hypnotic Groove Mix #374 - ULTRA

We've been looking forward to welcoming Jonas to the series for a while now, so without further ado... Jonas Grew up in Mažeikiai, an industrial town in Lithuania, famous for its oil industry, which apparently is a very proper soil for electronic music, he quickly started showcasing his personal selections in various festivals and venues all over Lithuania.

Step by step, Calli consolidated himself as a key performer in the Lithuanian techno scene - Continuing his musical pilgrimage by playing in many clubs and festivals around his home country, he matured and gained further experience, until he was confident enough to start his own production. His talent was quickly noticed by Mantas T., the founder of a Lithuanian net-label Partyzanai, and in 2011 Jonas proudly presented his first EP ‘Acid from Nowhere’, which quickly gained recognition in the techno audience.

Later on the producer’s new love, Dark Disco-inspired spacious sound, started to beg for a new artistic alias. John Patter was born and the alter ego was a good enough reason to invest on new studio equipment and broaden his abilities of production. Launched with remixes for ba., a Lithuanian post-punk prodigy, and Latvian producers Esoniq & Negorod, he soon began laying some serious studio work and came up with his debut EP „Space Race“ in 2015, released in Ninefont.

After several releases on Argentinean’s label, John continues on his sound journey and thus a new release is born on the Spanish label Shara Music called “Noche Santos”. Before this EP, Jonas did a great remix for Tkuz track “Electrico” which was released on the same label.

During the successful his own managed Darkroom event series in one of the best Lithuanian night club Kablys, he met many great artists from abroad and his sound was moved forward as well. The inspiration leaded him to new dimensions of EBM and mixtures of Dark Disco with Broken Beats. Then, in 2019 a new release was born on Esthetique’s sub label MOIL called “Trois Larmes”. Later, Jonas continued his musical journey with inspiring new tracks, which were released on Rotten City Files and Melomana Records.

Neowise is the Julien Cloud and Vaälha’s duo, both from west of France. During the first lockdown in 2020, they isolated themselves in the countryside in order to give birth to their project and thus create their first eponymous EP.

The latter was based on a desire to reconcile the music of the heyday of the 1980s with the devastating techno of the underground era of today. Mixing colorful and retro synths with the power of techno, the duo draws on their multiple influences such as rock or SF film soundtracks to create a melting pot combining past and future. During their DJ set, the duo navigate between Italo Disco, Indie Dance and EBM-Techno like the comet that inspired their name.

Avec un pied dans l'acid techno, la jungle, le breakbeat et l'IDM des années 90, et un autre pied dans ce son électro saturé que certains appellent 'French Touch 2.0', sa musique est un mix singulier entre nostalgie rave et énergie maximaliste. Connu pour son personnage sans visage, son obsession pour le feu et son énergie inépuisable au moment d'interpréter ses propres morceaux sur scène, Cinder a déjà sorti sa musique sur de nombreux labels dont Leonizer,  Multipass, CVNT, Senary, QSS, Bella Ursa, Meteo, Bande Magnétique, z•est, Endless et Ultratech, et a remixé de nombreux artistes tels que Calling Marian, La Fraicheur & Leonard de Leonard, HAN aka Principles of Geometry, Ketut, Letherique et losscom. En décembre 2021, il publie Inferno, un EP de 7 titres comprenant des remixes de Calling Marian, Sina XX et Maze. Déjà en préparation, la suite directe de cet EP sortira en 2023.

Constant sound rebel, vinyl enthusiast, dj, co-founder of  Partyzanai label and its sub-labels (PZ Records, Gars Records, Partyzanai Pop Records, Partyzanai Plius Records, PPP Records) and promoter since 1997. Cosmopolitan, traveler and digger throughout many electronic music trends, capitals, styles and beyond. Mantas T. dj sets reflect a wide spectrum of sound, as well as his love for obscure, hard-to-find records, which extends from obscure disco to modern techno. This reverberates in his Isla to Isla mix, recorded at Radio Vilnius.

roken English Club is a project by Oliver Ho that explores the “dark friction” between man and machine. It has spawned two albums, most recently June’s The English Beach on L.I.E.S., which soundtracked the desolate scenes of his surroundings with eerie experimental techno. Heavy on apocalyptic synths and doom laden drums, and occasionally run through with melodic optimism, it’s a brilliant testament to Ho’s evocative studio skills after ten years of making more straight up techno as Raudive. 

Elements of EBM and industrial come into focus on the album, as they do in the mix he has put together for us. In just over an hour, plenty of angular grooves, slapping drums and cold, chilly metallic surfaces unfold in dystopian fashion. Starting off sparse and menacing with French vocals and synths which survey the landscape, eventually the machines take over and grow ever more wild so that you end up in a dehumanised world of reverb, manic pixelated melodies and whirring lines that have a life of their own.

Z31ITG31ST is a Colombian DJ and musician who has sought to get out of conventional sounds for more than a decade on different stages in an idea of ​​isolating himself from monotonous beats and finding him in experimentation. Starting in electro and techno music to find years later deep affinities with the sound aesthetic of krautrock, industrial, EBM, noise, synthpop, minimal wave, post punk and other textures that correspond to musical movements linked to the 70s, 80s and 90s.

He has shared stage with different international artists such as musician and DJ, including Martial Canterel, Paralitikos, She Past Away, Die Human, Ben Bloodygrave among others. He's been included in different parties and festivals from the underground movement of Colombia, Peru and its current country of residence, Chile. He is currently part of Morfina Records, a label he is part of as a DJ and Curator.          

In this set you will find a mix that experiments with different genres, mainly sounds oriented to Electro, Synthpop, industrial, Minimal Wave Minimalsynth, Synthpunk and EBM.
