With the demise of Managra in early 1998, three out of the six members moved on to start their own project that reflected upon the more gloomier aspects of indie-noise. Highly influenced by bands like Hoover, The Crownhate Ruin, June of 44, Slint and The Last Crime. Accompanied by ballads that dealt with death and an extensive knowledge of art history.

Following a brief tour of the East Coast and the release of their self-titled debut EP on Highwater Records a year later, the band called it a day during their second US tour.

Tintoretto released a 4-song CD entitled The Sound Of Someone You Love Who Is Leaving… The Sound Of Someone You Love Is Leaving… And It Doesn't Really Matter in 1998 on Highwater Records from Austin, TX and four more songs were posthumously released in 2000 on a compilation CD entitled A Four Way Stop, released on 404 records. Members went on to play in Call Me Lightning, Hero of A Hundred Fights, Murder In The Red Barn, Haymarket Riot, Zebras, and Fuiguirnet.

In 2021, Expert Work Records reached out to the band about releasing their discography on vinyl. After finding the original recordings and starting the re-mixing progress, the band was unhappy with the recordings and decided to reform and re-record their entire output. Breathing fresh life into the songs, and capturing them the way they meant to 20 plus years ago. With accomplished recording engineer, Shane Hochstetler (who happened to be the drummer) behind the recording console they were able to capture the songs and make them sound better than they ever had. Many delays, and almost two years later, the recordings are done and will finally see a vinyl release from Expert Work Records and American Handstand records in summer 2024.

I Betray My Friends

-For one brief year from 1995-1996 there was a short lived band called Orwell. While all the members had other musical projects going on (Gainer, Braid, The Sky Corvair, Hubcap), college, and were running record labels (Divot Records & Actionboy Records). They somehow found time to take on one more project. Though Orwell only lasted a year, they managed to record 8 songs, and play a handful of shows. 3 of those song managed to get released, 4242 on the “Emo Schmeemo” 7”, Angular Momentum on the Polyvinyl “Direction comp” (but only the CD version), and Bandsaw Architecture on the Divot/Actionboy “Ground Rule Double comp”. The other 5 songs had never been released.

-Orwell were a five-piece post-hardcore/emo band from Chicago, Illinois. For many years, they were really known as being another project Bob Nanna (Braid, Hey Mercedes) was involved in, as their official releases were limited to sporadic compilation tracks and a handful of unreleased bootleg recordings circulating the internet. Finally, in 2020 an official discography was released, including all recorded material, as well as some live tracks and demos. The result was Orwell 1995, which is titled as such since everything on it was recorded that year. It sold out immediately! So, we now present a re-press celebrating 30 years since this music was written and recorded. Sonically, fans of Nanna's other work will dig this, though it does have a more raw, aggressive sound in comparison to the usually melodic works of Braid.

Strand of a Lake, Volume 1 was written and recorded from July 2021 through August 2022 in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Okinawa. Volume 2 was written and recorded from August 2022 through March 2025.

Volume 1 was released digitally on September 13, 2022. Volumes 1 and 2 will be released together on vinyl in the fall of 2025 by Expert Work Records.

The Elusive was a Washington, D.C. post-hardcore band that formed in the summer of 1997 from members of Corm, Jenhitt, and the Tilden Shirtwaist Fire. The quintet played only a handful of shows with peers -Arm, Braid, the Challenger Commission, Compound Red, Franklin, Frodus, the Get Up Kids, Joan of Arc, Kerosene 454, Proudentall and others -before breaking up in April 1998. Months earlier, the Elusive recorded Sometimes Sounds Collapse, documenting all six songs written during the band’s brief tenure. Released on CD by Shute Records in 1998, the EP has been out of print for years. Following the breakup of the Elusive, members John Davis and Chris Richards immediately co-founded the band Q And Not U (Dischord Records).

01 Pin Me Against The Sky

Amputee Set was a band from 1997-2001. In 2003 the band decided to reunite for a one off reunion show, playing their entire catalog of songs. During rehearsal for the show they wrote a new song the remained untitled and has since been named "Mission of Burnham" to honor and remember their guitar player Morgan Burnham who passed away in 2013. The other song, "We're All Born Dying" was written while the band was still active, but they never properly recorded it. Since these two songs never appeared anywhere else in the Amputee Set discography, we decided to release them digitally. This is a live recording from 2003 from a house show at The legendary 1810 Ranch (IYKYK) in Columbia, MO the other bands that played that night were The Souls and Call Me Lightning.
