Mancunian musician, DJ and artist Danny Ward dons his 'Moodymanc' hat to work vocals he recorded with legendary vocalist and old friend Diane Charlemagne (R.I.P.) (Goldie, Moby, High Contrast, London Elektricity) to produce TAKE ME BACK - a piece of retro futurist deep and soulful music. 

James Curd drafts in Sid Who? to deliver some infectious vocals on EVERYBODY COME ON, who is a member of the acclaimed outfit The Swiss and has written music for the likes of Usher, Holy Ghost and Kimbra.

The mighty Irish talent Krystal Klear provides a stonking remix of O.N.O's quirky ‘Modern Dance’ for Exploited here, coming in all guns blazing.

Captain Mustache is at the vanguard of Paris’ electro new school, defining his sound as ‘romantic and burlesque’. He takes his cues from electroclash, ‘80s electro, synth pop and Detroit techno. On MONKEY BRAINS he finds perfect company in New York’s Ulysses who has previously released acclaimed output on Prins Thomas’ label Internasjonal.

A typically chunky, galloping T.U.R.F. beat lays the foundation for looping disco bass and emotive strings to build the tension on KEEP MOVING, slowly teasing us with their full groove. A romantic string motif unfolds, bringing a bittersweet touch to this thumping disco house groover. Typically tasteful stuff from this talented duo.

DANCING YOU AND ME by NEAT features Swedish talent Storken, who has released on Running Back, and channels beautiful ‘80s Balearic vibes into its skippy house template. ‘80s electro bass funk leads the charge while wonky tape delays massage guitar chords and female vocal cuts into the distance. 

PIZZA PIZZA by Budakid &  El Zárate whisks together discofied bass with an unusual stuttered lead riff and magical atmospheres that create a glowing, warm feel. 

JULIO is unmistakably Enduro Disco’s handwork: a classy, spacious slice of modern, dubbed-out disco. Warm, Balearic bass underpins a haze of chopped-up, resplendent disco string samples and tripped-out, unintelligible vocals at the core of the track.

A zingy synth arp pans across the stereo field in dizzying fashion as the track DAYS OF PAST by Paris duo O.N.O begins, crisp claps and thuddy kicks pumping away as sustained strings and vox pads rise from the ether. A dreamy respite comes in the form of the spacey, airy first breakdown, before the elastic, driving bassline groove kicks in.

LIBERDADE (which means 'Freedom' in portuguese) by Joyce Muniz is an intense beast, with acidic bubbling teasing in the distance as thumping kicks and snares trade blows. A menacing bassline snarl stutters and pulses with sinister intent as a variety of percussive loops form an unusual rhythmic groove.

Captain Mustache lays his Parisian touch down on GRAN MUSIC by O.N.O, opting for throbbing analog bass thrusts and ticking old skool percussion, before unleashing a fizzing lead arpeggio and breakbeat pattern that gives the track an entirely new dimension. 

Captain Mustache teams up with citymate and techno stalwart POPOF on BASTILLE, ringing with him his years of experience working with the biggest names in techno, from releasing on Sven Väth’s Cocoon Recordings to remixing The Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode and Moby.

Dynamic Dutch duo Fouk go to town on their version of EVERYBODY COME ON by James Curd & Sid Who?, honing in on the arp from the original and pushing its camp Italo disco energy to the max.

All in all this is a great eclectic dance compilation.

Captain Mustache is at the vanguard of Paris’ electro new school. Riding on a wave of incredible form, he counts to his name a collaboration with Daft Punk-affiliate Play Paul on KOMPAKT to his name, a collab with Chicks On Speed on Permanent Vacation, an EP for Helena Hauff’s Return To Disorder label, an album on Bedrock and an outing on Les Yeux Orange with remixes from electro gods DMX Krew and Legowelt. Defining his sound as ‘romantic and burlesque’, he takes his cues from electroclash, ‘80s electro and synth pop and Detroit techno.

Classic drum sounds form the crux of ‘Monkey Brains’, a hypnotic tom rhythm throbbing away amidst punchy claps and crisp claps. A buzzing synth bores a tunnel through the centre of the groove as Ulysses’ twisted vocal stylings enter the fray and echoing stutters permeate the depths of the track. Subtle arpeggios add colour as bright lead blasts cut through the mix. Each element is carefully positioned and utilised efficiently, the track building slowly to a beautiful intensity before stripping right back down again. And so it goes back and forth, undulating between rapture and darkly-tinged introspection.

Previously enlisting the likes of Adamski, Dave Clarke, Paris The Black Fu, The Advent and Keith Tucker to provide vocals on his tracks, Captain Mustache finds perfect company in New York’s Ulysses. Part of Neurotic Drum Band with John Selway, he has previously released acclaimed output on Prins Thomas’ label Internasjonal. Bearfunk, Lasergun, Guidance Recordings and Throne Of Blood.

T.U.R.F. return to Exploited following a fine run of form that has seen them release on legendary Parisian house producer Phil Week’s esteemed Robsoul label and on Slothboogie’s ‘Dancing With Friends Vol. 2’ compilation. They’ve also provided a remix for Tensnake’s album, found a lot of love on Traxsource and continue their show on Amsterdam’s Lovelee Radio. They’re back here with two no-nonsense tracks to fire up the dancefloor.

James Curd is no stranger to Exploited, having penned a long line of retro-leaning grooves, where he plays most of the musical parts himself. On this occasion, he drafts in Sid Who? to deliver some infectious vocals, who is a member of the acclaimed outfit The Swiss. Sid Who? has written music for the likes of Usher, Holy Ghost and Kimbra, and as part of The Swiss, has remixed Breakbot for Ed Banger Records. Their friendship reaches new levels of beauty on this collab.

Sid Who?’s sassy voice tees the track up, before a rolling bass groove and head-nodding beat explode into life. Funked-up synth squeals play out a simple but addictive melody, while clipped electric piano chords fill in the gaps in the driving groove. Wild vocal cuts build a hook of their own as an analog synth arpeggio envelops the track in spine-tingling style. But what’s this? A pitch-bending, squealing synth solo that sounds like it should be played by a natty keytar player? Yes please, we’ll take that. This glorious ‘80s interlude leads us towards the dramatic vocal harmonies of the breakdown, and thereafter it’s back to business as usual. Supremely groovy with a magical edge, ‘Everybody Come On’ is built to seduce your hips and feet.

"Things start out fairly cheerfully, actually. At one point a messenger arrives with a pie, asks if he has the correct person, and when he finds he does, throws the pie into their face. So now we know where that fad came from. Later, though, the smiles grow more forced. James & Sidwho try to maintain an adequate British reserve, but it's a little hard when you find you are likely to turn into a bed-sitting room. Escalators from the underground are likely to dump you in mid-air, a square meal is hard to come by, and so on."

The mighty Irish talent Krystal Klear provides a stonking remix of Parisian duo’s quirky ‘Modern Dance’ for Exploited here, coming in all guns blazing.

Deliciously plump drum machine toms throb away in sorrowful fashion over hard-smacking clap layers and teasing snatches of the string motif. A pumping Italo disco bassline slams into play with vox synth delays padding out the top end. Those seductive vocals weave their way into the depths of the mix, the atmosphere of the track slowly gelling as pulsing, filtered chords swell. 

The triumphant feel of the elongated breakdown lets these shiny melodic elements dazzle in all their glory as swathes of white noise rise and fall. Reducing to nothing more than the graceful string melodies and the subtlest of piano chords, it’s a thing of real beauty. Wobbling synth FX indicate that we’re to get ready to dance again, and when the beat hits back in, it’s a real fist-pumper of a moment.

While O.N.O. go from strength-to-strength, Nathalie will also release a side project on Toy Tonics with some very big remixers in tow. The O.N.O. brand just keeps getting bigger...

Mancunian musician, DJ and artist Danny Ward dons his 'Moodymanc' hat to work vocals he recorded with legendary vocalist and old friend Diane Charlemagne (Goldie, Moby, High Contrast, London Elektricity) to produce a poignant EP of retro futurist deep and soulful music. In his own words:
"I had always known Diane as one of the 'older' musicians and artists we all looked up to when growing up in Manchester. We became fast friends and partners in mischief when working and touring together with Urban Cookie Collective when 'The Key The Secret' became an accidental hit (a semi guilty secret!). When I started my solo production career as 'Dubble D' Di was always a mentor and collaborator, taking time out from working with the likes of Goldie (Inner City Life) and touring and recording with Moby to record with me and also to work on our 2020 Soundsystem project, singing live and recording our cover and homage to the timeless Frankie Knuckles anthem 'Your Love'. We remained close up to her untimely loss in 2015 which, for me as so many, hit really hard.
It was on the tail end of one of these sessions that we recorded the vocals for 'Take Me Back' over some beats I had been working on at the time. They had been sitting on a hard drive, being revisited from time to time without anything solid coming together until lockdown, when the spirit and sentiment of the lyrics seemed to resonate so much on both a personal and global level, and inspiration hit in a big way!
The original mix harks back to soulful breaks and broken beat times but (hopefully) with a forward thinking and futuristic outlook. I revisited the vocal once more when I'd done this to do some deeper versions, with a little more space. It's a release that has a lot of personal meaning and emotion for me. I sincerely hope that you enjoy it."

DFA / Visionquest duo Benoit & Sergio return mid October with some fresh and typically unique new material via Matt Tolfrey’s Leftroom Limited imprint.

French artist Benoit & stateside producer Sergio’s collaborative career took a huge leap in 2010 with the release of their anthemic ‘Walk & Talk’ on the Visionquest imprint. Since then the duo have gone on to release via James Murphy’s DFA, Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations, L.A imprint Culprit and now, adding another leading imprint to their affiliations, Matt Tolfrey’s Leftroom.

As always from Benoit & Sergio this new single sees the duo offer up something refreshing, unique and undeniably catchy. Across ‘House With 500 Rooms’ subtly progressing, near ten minute duration, the pair scatter an array on deft production techniques throughout with echoing vocal swells, multilayered bass and piano hooks and soaring synth leads running alongside their signature memorable vocal styling’s.

The latter half of the package sees the duo provide a ‘Dub’ take on the original cut solely focusing on the its smooth and hypnotic vibe, while the ‘Radio Edit’ trims things back to the core of the opening composition to shape up the package.

Benoit & Sergio’s ‘House With 500 Rooms’ is out on Leftroom Limited 16th October 2015.

As it is (technically) very difficult to postpone a release on the next day, and as we believe that Martin would not have wanted this either, we decided to go ahead with it.

As a final goodbye, we would like to give you a free download of our favourite OFF Recordings track of his.
