Following on from the release of his first album in 10 years in 2022, the expansive 'Fear Of Programming', Berlin techno icon Marcel Dettmann returns to announce a brand new EP, Electric Drive. 

Dettmann's first release via our new label 'fabric Originals', will be released digitally and on vinyl on 16th June, with digital downloads being exclusively available via Beatport until 30th June - and here on Bandcamp from the 30th June. 


A full-bodied cut of driving, digitised techno, Electric Drive thrives on intensity from the outset. Pairing a hypnotic yet truly dynamic synth centre-piece with a hard-hitting, no-nonsense percussive line, the track strips Dettmann’s signature sound to its raw elements - presenting an incendiary DJ tool that can ignite the potency of any set by force. 


After spanning a host of genres within Fear Of Programming, Marcel Dettmann’s Electric Drive finds one of techno’s most revered names return to pure dancefloor ferocity. A glimpse of things to come, the project’s title track ensures that those tuned in to the more dynamic sounds of Berlin techno are satiated with a new soundtrack for late nights and early mornings from one of the sound’s most inventive artists.

Our Canadian cousins, The Junkies, return to SCI+TEC with a follow up to their hugely popular Monkey Biz ep from 2013. Having first featured on the label with their Au Jour Le Jour EP of 2012, the Toronto natives then rolled out the wild, animalistic grooves on the follow up. Since then the boys have not only enjoyed a hectic global touring schedule but also seen the likes of Carl Cox, Nicole Moudaber and Carlo Lio snap up new material for their labels. 

3X is The Junkies latest work and sees them present a weighty double-header in the form of Mis Cue and Get Down. Vicious grooves are in abundance here as they deliver the perfect balance of darkness and light. Vocal samples and relentless beats are balanced to perfection to deliver a heavy brace with an impressive underlying level of funk.

Milan based collective Just This present the ‘Enter The Block’ EP from label mainstays Hunter/Game due November 2nd as a digital-only release. Featured in this five-track package are two remixes from Cassegrain and Amandra.

Title track is a minimalist roller featuring subtle acid inflections and a pointillist melody. For their remix, Cassegrain morph the unfurling hypnotism of the original into something more twisted, punctuating its cyclic nature with drawn out tones and frenetic rhythms.

‘Second Floor’ is an exercise in restraint, slowly building around one motif that swirls in and out of focus above stripped back percussion. Amandra provides an unexpectedly angular interpretation for his remix, repurposing the original into a molecular structure of atonal textures driven forwards by marching percussion.

Closing off the EP, ‘Explore’ revolves around a tiny, glistening melody, teetering on the edge of something bigger in a way that builds a brooding tension.

The cutting edge sound of Viennese/Berlin electronica is here! Joyce Muniz is back to tear up your local dancefloor with another two carefully honed grooves, this time pushing herself in perhaps her most techno-focused direction yet.

Rolling tech-leaning percussive provides the backbone of ‘Microdosing’ along with throbbing monotone bass grunts. Subtle melodics work their way into the mix along with stuttered vocals and metallic textures, the snarling, menacing lead arpeggio that is the track’s calling card gradually bubbling to the surface. Muniz’s uncluttered, succinct arrangement lets the track breathe beautifully, with the psychedelic undertones left to subtly permeate just as a microdose of LSD might. An entrancing journey into the psychedelic experience, but not a full trip.

‘Try Me’ ups the intensity with its moment of drama and mind-bending atonal riffs. A stomping beat is laced with a pitch-bending, warped machine groove and chunky bass rumbles away incessantly as the track builds. The dark groove is made wonkier still with an arpeggiated riff whose hollow tone recalls Hot Butter’s infectious ‘Popcorn’, and sensual vocal thrusts add yet more drama. A tense breakdown goes darker still as the vocal unfolds with a little classic house flavour.

Time and time again Muniz has proved herself to be both a masterful musician and highly qualified architect of dancefloor gold. With such an array of styles under her belt, this new release makes for yet another sonic reinvention.
