K.E.E.N.E.’S vocal anthem ‘Missing Point’ was one of their most impressive tracks to date. The haunting track was a departure from their afro house flavours towards a more melodic techno sound, and now a new remix from London’s talented Kiwi brings another flavour to the track entirely.
Indulging his love for old skool house and acid, Kiwi’s remix makes good use of those pianos, sampling the chords and creating a ravey feel with the resulting pattern. 303 squelches punctuate. Linn drum machine snares hammer away in all the right places. Rubbery analog bass twangs and throbs, bolstering the piano chord progression. Hi-hats tick incessantly. He uses just a snatch of the vocal to add to the dramatic feel, helping to cook up a very cool, moody rework that should reach a whole new audience.
Kiwi is the man behind hugely popular sex-positive London party and label Crossbreed. He has released on labels like Futureboogie, Optimo Music, 17 Steps, Disco Halal, Cin Cin and Needwant Recordings and has provided remixes for artists ranging from Wankelmut to Moon Boots to Breakbot to Duke Dumont.

Adam Nathan is a London-born, Toronto-raised DJ and producer quickly making a name for himself on the global deep house scene. Previously collaborating under various monikers and part of Toronto’s influential Release Records crew, Adam is now unveiling potent solo tracks under his name. This new EP for Viva Recordings, titled Soulmachine, has the well-honed sound of a studio veteran, with a smooth, warm sound and emotive passages. Adam’s roots as a drummer come through with the stripped down emphasis on rhythm, while melodic flourishes and dynamic builds play masterfully on top. 

The EP opens with ”Soulmachine”, featuring dramatic piano chords and a fine, pulsating kick drum. The cut builds in a mesmerizing fashion, ending in a beautifully atmospheric breakdown. “Us and Them” gets into even deeper territory, full of synth pad transmissions, shimmering sonics, and the stirring, echoing speech that enters near the halfway point. “Coda”, directly inspired by the legendary nightclub of the same name, closes things out with a classic feel. Drawing upon the deepest influences of ‘90s house music, “Coda” is dreamy, multilayered treat for the latest of nights and the most intimate of dance floors.

Writing ‘The Sky Is Too Low’ was a challenge. Of all the tracks on the record it’s one of our favourites. When we started the groove it took us back to our early broken beat and hip hop roots. We wanted to bring broader styles to the record and Jaw and Jeff (Darko)’s vocals absolutely nail it, and helped take the tune to where we wanted it to go. It reminds us of a past time when we were just opening our ears to the rawness of that vibe.

The mysterious Enduro Disco returns to Exploited for another two-track excursion, filled with subtle majesty and interesting touches.
The title track is a quirky groove that displays all the unusual character commonly found in an Enduro Disco track. A wiggling groove is built through filtered stab delays, high-pitched vocal snippets and shakers. Disco string fills signal a shift in mood as languid live bass slides drop in along with dreamy, pleasingly chorused vocal harmonies that have a hint of classic samba to them. The mysterious melodic feel is punctured by a stripped-down section filled with squelchy synths and a tight rhythm as the track reaches its culmination.
‘Try A Little Harder’ rocks a spacey disco groove where descending, detuned bass notes tumble over delayed string hits and hypnotic motifs. A euphoric chord progression is teased in the brooding breakdown before filtering back down. Gorgeous female vocals drift in and out as the electro-house flavoured lead synth bashes out a groove. Pulsing pads provide a melodic counterbalance, as does a cute FM-style arpeggio. As ever from this talented producer, it’s a masterclass in graceful arrangement and compelling matching of textures.

Rogue D makes a return to Crosstown Rebels sister label Rebellion, following up his 2019 collaboration with Memoryman. The ​Burning EP f​ eatures three tracks that demonstrate his penchant for groove and diversity.
