Previously one half of the punchy Kotelett & Zadak pairing that brought you Exploited gems like ‘Roadhouse’ (with that huge Whitesquare remix) and ‘Crave Dave’, Kotelett is now going on a solo tip and is showing no signs of slowing down the stellar output. Two new tracks arrive with a very fine remix from Musumeci in support.
‘Lifted’ is a hypnotic chugger of a track. Revolving around a monotone bass pattern and light stabs, it builds slowly and imperceptibly with gentle percussion adding to the driving, heads-down feel. Occasional blasts of an old-skool Euro / early trance vibe synth melody punctuate the bars, and the uncluttered arrangement sucks you in with subtle variations and dizzying FX slung deep into the mix.
‘I Feel Different’ is on a more housey tip, with a looping feel to the nagging synth hooks and low-slung bass syncing up beautifully with the skipping percussion. A blissed-out breakdown gives a breather before we go stomping again, and the whole affair has more than a little of the Parisian house vibe to it.
Siciliy’s Musimeci provides a more charged remix of ‘Lifted’, taking its cues from Italo and electro in the process. A shimmering hi-hat groove propels track along with arpeggiated bass, and that Euro synth hook is utilised more frequently for a more intense feel. It’s complemented by the breakdown’s fizzing proto-trance arpeggiation and melancholy stabs. Soaring pads lift the track further and add a chord progression underneath, and the whole thing comes together in quite glorious fashion.

Stockholm’s NEAT are back in the Exploited house with a generous four-track EP of electronic delights, once again demonstrating their sophisticated, atmospheric styles.
EP title track ‘It Is U’ echoes the deepest of classic progressive house with its plaintive feel, building through bobbing arpeggios and crystalline chimes while a chugging Italo disco-esque groove pushes it forward. Big sweeps and minor chords punctuate in the background while the percussion keeps evolving.
‘Nouvell De Romantica’ features spacey vocals from Miss Trance Late and is a gently tripped-out workout that revolves around rubbery bass delays, ticking hi-hats and distorted acid bubbles. Far-off pads filter subtly beneath huge swathes of reverb, panning across the stereo field as the Latinx vocal samples gently massage your mind. Let’s call it ‘lazy acid’.
Speaking of which, ‘Acid Arouse’ picks up the next with skippy beats and a stomping bass groove whose acidic characteristics are gradually intensified. Sprightly synth delays and sweeps fill out the surrounding space, while breathy vocals from Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Antilla add another dreamy touch. Rippling, dreamy synth plucks top this tasty acid cake off.
‘WAAAAW!’ makes for a brooding finale, with a more techno-led focus. Discordant arpeggios meld with glassy pulses and weird vocal effects to create a psychedelic soundscape whose parts are deftly brought in and out of focus in continuous fashion to give this track a living, breathing pulse.

The artist is known for his very strong activism against animal abuse and consumption and this EP is dedicated to all suffering animals in farms and cages who will only see the daylight on their way to the slaughterhouse.

From start to finish, the tracks from the Canary Islands’ Alex Medina’s debut EP on mobilee have you in their grip.

Alex has crafted his own signature sound, following on from his Beatport Indie Dance No.1 record on Innervisions “Golden Teacher”; which was supported by Dixon, Ame, Solomun, Pete Tong, Bicep, and Trikk amongst others.

High energy yet with deeper vibes, combined with unique off kilter vocals; these are guaranteed body movers.

Elna returns on vocals for “Waves from One Sea”, which progresses from a driving dancefloor number into a transcendental trip to the left, with surprising twists and turns; multi-layered instruments culminate in a peak of artfully interwoven melodies.

“Break Me Down”’s warpy lead sets the scene for this rave-esque broken beat creation. Gab Ser’s ethereal voice brings yet another element to a diverse palette; that is a striking addition to mobilees’s wide reaching spectrum of sound. We hope to see this one at 5am sometime in the not-too-distant future.

Hotly tipped newcomer Yulia Niko joins the Watergate collective, delivering an exciting label debut to mark the occasion.

The Russian-born, Berlin-based artist has piqued the ears of heads with quality releases on Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical and her own TochnoTechno imprint. She steps up for Watergate Records with an inspiring maiden EP, augmented by remixes from YokoO and Francesco Mami.

‘Manifesto’ is the intriguing opener, as intergalactic synths rub shoulders with a chugging groove for an ultra-cool finish. ‘Passion’ is heavy on vibes, pairing an enchanting vocal with a colourful bed of percussion. YokoO contributes a subterranean ‘Defragmentation’ remix of ‘Manifesto’ on the minimal tip, before adding some warmth to the palette teaming up with Francesco Mami for a ‘Vegas Mix’ primed for the afterhours with its deep grooves and shuffling beats. ‘Hurts So Slow’ reinforces Niko’s versatility, imbuing a dusty house vibe primed for late night sessions.
