That’s how T.U.R.F. describe the origin of their latest EP for Exploited, the funk-fuelled, finger-lickin’ ‘Whatcha Gonna Do’. And going back to the source for inspiration has proved a masterstroke, with the duo cooking up two super-groovy tracks that will be in heavy rotation for months to come.
‘Whatcha Gonna Do’ works its way around an Afrobeat flavoured guitar and bass groove, with chattering tribal percussion tumbling over a classic house beat. Vocal chants add another layer of swing, with a filtered breakdown taking us right back to that French touch era and an irresistible Santana-esque, guitar solo weaving in and out of the foreground thereafter. The groove is thick and relentless and will keep you bopping throughout. Close your eyes and you could be on the dancefloor at Djoon in Paris in the early 2000s...
The flip ‘Real Heads Know The Deal’ is a more urgent, insistent affair. Drawing on the same DNA as the title track, the pace is upped and the swing pushed further into shoulder-wiggling slinkiness. At its core: another infectious guitar loop. Sprinkled on top: a funked-up vocal cut-up. The bass is warm and curvy, and blasts of feel-good horns are woven in at just the right moments. Hypnotic disco house at its very finest.

Brooklyn’s Razor-N-Tape have been knocking hot disco edits out of the park since 2012. Their Reserve imprint was later created as an outlet for more housey content, but it’s evolved to encompass varied genres and is RNT’s primary channel for new original music. Next up on RNT Reserve is Felipe Gordon, based in Colombia’s capital Bogotaì, Felipe is a renaissance man. The producer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and label head is nothing short of a phenomenon, effortlessly fusing complex sound combinations from jazz samples to flowing pianos and acid bass lines into hugely exciting and unique house cuts.  It’s a sound which comes together perfectly to create tracks which have been moving waves worldwide over the last couple of years. Felipe has released a string of well regarded tracks and worked on remixes for Shall Not Fade, Toy Tonics, Heist Recordings, Razor-N-Tape and his own Noìmada Records.

As a continued effort to try and make interesting merges between new and already existing sounds, Ghosten has been born. 

As an ode to the whitelabels and bootlegs, as well as some of the Paxton Fettel Vinyl Only releases I've done over the years, this is an ongoing process of expanding my ways of making edits, remakes and tributes. These are usually done with house as a camera, jazz as objective and funk as the colour grading. The only difference from my old approach is that most of the elements are now played by myself, and no longer sampled. 

As I take these merely as scientific explorations of old audio, merged with live instruments, soundscapes, field recordings, and a complete new composition and mix - I've decided to give them away for free. It's mostly a jamming project for me, where I get to have alot of fun. 
However I think the results are interesting enough to share, and maybe some day inspire others to try out new stuff, even if it has no relevance or makes no sense to anyone. 

So here goes Ghosten. (lol, that sounds pretty daft - so let's keep it).
