Hotflush Recordings present 'Wanderlust / Chimes' a collaborative EP from Lawrence Hart and Casually Here due 7th September. Both multi-instrumentalists based in London, the duo unite for a two-track package of glistening, melodic house. 

Lawrence Hart (aka Duncan Tootill) is a classically trained musician working with a broad spectrum of styles, who, under his solo moniker produces ambient-leaning house and electronica. He is one third of the Little Club act and a long-term collaborator of George Fitzgerald. Casually Here (aka Nic Nell) is an experimental composer and the label boss of Algebra Records, who’s debut album ‘Kept’ was released in 2015. 

‘Wanderlust’ is an atmospheric trip through glitching melodies and immersive harmonics replete with minute details. ‘Chimes’ opens with a serene soundscape, evolving into a chugging dose of sun-drenched house led by trippy vocals and an animated bassline.

Yarni & Javi return to Exploited for their third EP ‘Sakura’. Maintaining the duos leaning toward melody this EP sees them demonstrating their dynamicity with two tracks ready for the dance-floor.

Lead track 'Sakura' starts out with a subtle sustained bass before introducing distorted bells and field recordings made in the sakura capital of the world Tokyo! Things take an almost Balearic turn when the breakdown introduces a warm pad before an arpeggio arrives to pick the track up nicely as things kick back in! 

'Next Of Kin' with it’s plucked instrumentation is a little experimental track which sees the duo playing with various orchestral sounds which creates an almost too beautiful atmosphere. Field recordings once again feature here blended with a driving flute melody which carries the 2nd drop nicely until the end of the track. 

This EP was a surprise when we received it and clarifies that we can expect the unexpected from this new Anglo-Spanish pairing.

All too aware that good things come in pairs, the Dutch duo 16BL (formally known as 16 Bit Lolitas) kick off their 2019 with their delectable double-cut ‘Vette / Leaving Home’. The Balearic-flavoured ‘Vette’ cleverly combines romantic string scores and tropical guitar strums with deep stuttered synths. Taking things deeper and darker, ‘Leaving Home’ sees 16BL bounce sporadic snares off of a swelling sub-bass, culminating in a club track awash with their signature organic sound.

@tomdemac is no stranger to us, with well-played releases on Hypercolour, Electronique Audio and Glasstable, we were happy to offer him a home with Kompakt in 2018 thanks to a collaboration with Real Lies titled “White Flowers”. Tom returns to Kompakt, this time solo with the 3 tracker “Serenade” .

The title track is delicately brought together by a fragile piano rhythm and poetic wisdom over the might of the kick drum. Tom says its best that “Despite it being a little generic adding spoken word talking about music over actual music, the poetic nature of the delivery and description of the effects and emotions that music can bring, really worked with the piano I had written for this song.”

“Seventh Sign” was initially intended an experiment in cello recordings through an effects pedal but ended up being track brimming with pure techno groove. Second Skin is the perfect finale embracing epic elements of broken beat and even IDM sensibilities with a gorgeously misguided horn leading the march.

On Serenade, Tom Demac shows he has what it takes to reconfigure the vitality of what emotive techno can be. A central force that has kept the beat of Kompakt’s heart in rhythm since day one.
