You know how you will eventually come across a scratched CD that just doesn't work so companies will try to sell you the solution?

I bought something several years ago called the SkipDr where you spray some undisclosed water substance it comes with on the bottom of the disc and put it under some plastic buffing thing that can supposedly fix the scratches. It is a piece of garbage.

Just use brass polish, a jeweler's cloth, and some proper ventilation if you care about giving a disc or two a second chance. Or if you have a stupid amount of them, just buy or rent a commercial disc resurfacer.

I decided to fire up an old computer that I had in storage with its original hard drive. Surprisingly, both still function, but since I haven't booted off the HDD in more than half a decade, it's showing some slight signs of magnetic degradation.

Windows 7 still boots. CPU-Z is kind of borked now. An old, pirated copy of FL Studio is still installed, but old projects and/or VST effects appear to be corrupted. Some of the Fruity effects cause FL to break down.

It really isn't 100% there anymore. There isn't any serious data on the drive that I'm concerned about, but to see it in a state like this is a bit depressing. Shit's literally the electronic version of dementia.

Anyways, might as well have a bit of fun with it by producing a track, then proceed to neglect the computer some more.

There's some junk from 2016 on here that's worth to consider uploading, but there isn't that many minutes on this account anymore.

I Love This Slightly Corrupted Win7 Install

A compilation of the more interesting sounds from one of my old, kind of unstable now, hard drives. Last used November 2016.

Some of the sounds are organic to FL Studio, while others were piped in from a radio transceiver, a CD player, and a toy keyboard that likely ended up getting destroyed in the process. Some of these sounds were fucked up in ways I don't remember.

Tommy Wiseau was added to taste.

Old shitpost from 2019 which originally had a paulstretched section that lasted for about 50 minutes or so; unsurprisingly this takes a serious chunk out of my upload quota, so this version has a paulstretch section a fraction of the size of the original.

I'll leave the old version up for about a week (and make sure that downloads are enabled for anyone that gives a shit) and then I'll nuke it.

The Gapping Machine

Flake is an alternative FLAC encoder with "the goal of increasing encoding speed and implementing experimental features". Occasionally, this produces a slightly more optimized FLAC file at the slowest preset (-12), in my experience.

It's probably worth checking to see if SoundCloud can properly decode these encodes, since they aren't done with the reference encoder.
