For the next of our adventures on the black stuff we hand the wax honours over to one of our Belfast crew and robust house head JC Williams.

Having impressed us with sterling remix work on the label for Chris Hanna, Bubba & T-Bone and JMX alongside his club destroying Raw Deal which was heavily championed at Glasgow’s legendary Sub Club, we thought it was about time he hogged the limelight himself.

Lead track “In Your Arms” is a proper Juno trip and is as deep as it is solid, proving JC is equally at home adding layers of melody as he is jacking around in the drum department.

“Close To The Edge” is a first class example of why we’ll always have room for some acid in our house.

Drafting in JC’s 4Lux label mate & Cardiff’s Organ Grinder for remix duties seemed like a perfect fit and in turn he takes In Your Arms on a bumping ride leaving Jack Fell Down to strip things right back on their version and add some serious bottom end, perfect for those late night floors.

Belfast meets Chicago in the latest offering from Extended Play.

Following on from JC Williams "In Your Arms" release they bring you four solid club workouts that combine to make the Allied Forces EP.

A heavyweight 40th release featuring two originals from Belfast crew members Chris Hanna and Martin De Brig and for extra punch they have invited deadly analogue warrior Amir Alexander to add his deft touch to both originals.

Chris Hanna's Moonshine will no doubt be added to most DJ's arsenal over the coming months, it's tense electronic riff will cut through any dance floor like a knife and leave no one unscathed and with Amir's deadly beat re fix to back it up you are guaranteed to hear Moonshine in a club any time soon.

Martin De Brig is another Belfast artist that has joined the ranks of Extended Play, his love of hardware and all things house and techno grabbed the attention of label heads JMX and Timmy “T-Bone” Stewart so much that they swore him straight in after hearing his initial offerings. 

De Brig's first output on the label is a proper acid house jam, percolating claps, a 303 line, spacious arrangement and a stellar vocal all working together to create a standout vocal gem. 

Amir pitches the vocal deeper and takes a detour down a slightly darker avenue than the original. Thankfully, deeper and darker by no means equals boring here, as a rolling bass line and his trademark killer percussive patterns really keep things moving, demonstrating why Extended Play were so keen to join forces with him in the first place.

As we head towards the big five zero, we continue on our quest to unearth new local talent alongside regular EP crew members in our PLYRS series by presenting the sort of tracks we love to hammer in our own sets. 

On this neat six tracker VA release we have captured some proper disco and chicago influenced numbers. From the peak time sounds of Schmutz to the deeper touch of new guy Embezzlement Society to bumping disco from Bobby A and a host of solid house cuts from Slack and Bone, Slurrp & Toronto friends Mike Davis & GCue.

EP042 - Extended Players 06

For EP043 one half of the label leadership JMX steps forward with a neat 4 four tracker in the form of the Albany Park EP.

This park is clearly blooming with many shades of house as these four cuts cover a lot of ground. The title track is a proper bumping house bomb that takes us back to the kind of material that Strictly Rhythm used to deliver with ease. It's hypnotic driving and with a bouncing rubber bassline that literally pops in and out of the speakers, this is guaranteed to get any floor moving.

Sometimes ploughs a deeper soulful patch and with it's soaring vocal and killer synths creates a great brooding atmospheric piece of electronic house.

Higher sees JMX team up with label partner T-Bone for an acid house workout that jacks things in all the right places with one main intention to raise the roof.

Deep in it, closes proceedings with even more solid synth magic and drops to a lush spoken word drop with a dist inctly vintage feel.

JMX - Albany Park ep - EP043

EP45 is upon us and offering up even more killer N.I electronics in the form of Jordan's Different Strokes EP.

The title track is a proper party starter as displayed on Boilerroom Belfast where Timmy kicked his set off with it to rapturous approval. It's a stone cold juno jam and has been hitting the sweet spot for us every single time.

Law of one is another lesson in slick synth work from Mr Nocturne and is packed with layers of emotive textures. For fans of Trevino et all, this is a must.

Finally sweatbox closes the EP with a robust club cut that is sure to get the speakers popping and bodies gyrating. So a solid first outing on the EP front from Jordan.

EP048 Pt1 – Timmy Stewart - To The Bone 

As Timmy is celebrating 20 years of making and playing music this year he has decided to look back through his back catalogue, select, re-master and re-release some personal favourites.

So in his own words here is what the big man had to say about the first half of his selections.

1.	The New Aluminists – Kill The Lights (Scoper & Bubba Remix)

Taken from our Back 2 The 80’s EP on Manchester’s ace Paper Recordings is this great reworking from fellow Belfast men and good friends Scoper & Bubba. Part disco, part house, the guys literally did take us back to the eighties on their remix and completely blew us away. It’s a great example of the art of clever sampling and was popular with the likes of Darshan from Metro Area at the time and as it still sounds ridiculously fresh to these ears it was the obvious choice as the opener on here.

2.	Bubba & T-Bone – Swan Song

I collaborate a lot with Bubba as we both share a love for early Chicago records and raw sounding electronic music. I think this comes out in the backing track but contrasts against the softer female vocal making it a weird but natural fit. Ironically it was the lead track featured on an EP for London’s Act Natural label who also ran the amazing Feast parties in Brick lane, which is probably my favourite gig in London over the years.

3.	Timmy Stewart – Can’t Hide

This was the first time I released material using my own name so there literally was no hiding and as I’ve always had a love for 80’s electro and hip-house tracks these influences are apparent here. It’s also definitely influenced by the house I was playing in Shine and the Stiff Kitten, where I was resident at the time. It popped up more recently on a mix by the Wasp from Dixon Ave Basement Jams and seemed to fit well with his other more modern selections making me feel it was one that had dated ok.

4.	El Prevost ft. D.Ham and Tina Penni - Days and Times (Bubba and T-Bone's Better Days Re-rub)

Another selection from the Elevation imprint here and one of my favourite remixes because of the ridiculously good parts we had to work with.  A good acid house vocal is always hard to come by never mind a male and female acid duet so for that reason it has always remained in my cd wallet.

5.	Future Rhythm Foundation – Passing Through

As well as the New Aluminists stuff Glenn and I also collaborated with Scoper on our FRF project on Paper were (because of Scoper’s eclectic record collection/great sample library) we had a more disco, funk and jazz approach. This simple house track was influenced by the DJ Sneak and 83 West records we were playing at the time and is a sound that as a DJ I still have a lot of time for today.

6.	Bubba and T-Bone – Bumpin’ for Love

Bubba and I put the 909 and 303 to the side for a rare excursion into cut and paste disco territory but the simplicity and great samples used here mean that it has a naïve charm to it and fits nicely with disco and house in the mix.

Here's a few words from the man himself about the second batch of tracks he has chosen to resurrect.

1. Timmy Stewart - One Vision (Llorca remix)

Easily one of my favourite producers and one of France's finest exports, Llorca turned in an exceptional remix of my "One Vision" track for Dublin's Mode music label. One from the vaults that's still sounding fresh.

2. Bubba - Makin' Contact (Jet Project No Frontin Remix)

JMX and I under our Jet Project moniker remixing fellow Extended play label mate Bubs. This alongside our Two Lone Swordsmen remix became one of my favourite JP remixes. It was really nice to have Mr Williams pop by our studio for the afternoon too. :P

3. New Aluminists - Bass Huggin

My fav from our "Down The Discotheque EP" on San Diego's Siesta records was the bumpin' DJ tool Bass Huggin. It was great to walk into Sub Culture in Glasgow one night and hear this one pumping through the system, cheers Dom. :) It was also great to be picked up by one of our favourite US labels at that point.

4. Signal Federation - Airbrakes (Peace Division Remix)

The mighty Peace Division remixing the lead track from our EP on Neville Watson and Twin Tubs ace Mighty Atom label. This one has never been available digitally until now and is a proper dubby driving bomb. Many thanks to all the guys for letting me include on here.

5. Digital Rhythms - Locked On

Taken from the Product Deluxe label I ran with Justin Deighton during the late nineties is this robust house no. I was keen to feature something from this period and the PD back cat and after revisiting the labels releases I started to feature this track in my sets again as result.

6. Random Method - BT9 (New Aluminists Beat Freaks dub)

Glenn and I remixing on Belfast's Slide recordings resulted in us putting the straight kicks to the side and getting out the breakbeats instead. It was brought to my attention again a few years ago when the Bicep lads told me they had been hammering our Slide stuff in their sets and in a sea of four four music it's always nice to hear a breakbeat or two.

7. Timmy & Glenn - Tora Tora Tora

A downtempo track taken from the first EP we ever made and that was signed to David Holmes's "Exploding Plastic" label. This third track on what was pretty much a straight up techno single was influenced by the slower early doors tracks we heard at David's great art college events. Originally made in 1995 I gave my record away over the years and was recently given it as a gift by a friend at the AVA record fair earlier this year. A very simple track with a great bass line and one I felt was a good closer on this twenty years recap compilation.

The fiftieth release on Extended Play label is a statement of exactly what is going on in our city’s burgeoning electronic and were we are headed with the underground scene. This release has 14 original recordings crafted to showcase the current sound of Belfast!!!

Bloomer White - Body Sing - Multi layered synth goodness from Bloomer White. This track has a multitude of twists and turns that keeps things moving with a great dynamic and ethereal atmosphere.

Jordan - Want To Be - Jordan displays some 80’s influences on this dark and trippy house workout with a distinctive call and answer vocal hook that can get stuck in your head for days.
 
Cromby - Lucid Dancer - Cromby goes deep and tripped out with splashes of acid on the late night groover “Lucid Dancer”.

Scoper & Bubba - Hot In The Valley - Classic Recordings & Glasgow Underground favourites Scoper & Bubba return to the fore with a track that wouldn’t sound out of place on the amazing Nuphonic back catalogue.

JMX - Catch The Feelin' – Extended Play Head Honcho JMX always jacks out in the drum department, so when he combines it with jazz flecked keys and locked stabs, it creates a standout hybrid.

Sid Carey – Machines - AVA festival competition winner Sid Carey’s “Machines” track is dark electronic funk that is designed for late night dance floors.
 
T-Bone - Rich Dancing – One of the bosses T-Bone steps up with the sub heavy “Rich Dancing” which packs a very solid punch with the organ stabs and vocal combination bringing the funk. Very reminiscent of the great Peace Division.

Moodtrax - Eastside Rhythm - Moodtrax’s debut is a proper Chicago influenced drum machine workout, meaning he is an artist you got to keep an eye on.

Martin De Brig - That Fucking Hands In The Air Track - Hip house vocals, 909 drum programming and acid lines means De Brig is aiming to have every single hand in the air.

Slurrp - Late Night Roll - Slurrp knows how he wants his late night soundtrack to roll, jacking and with a definite nod to Dancemania.
 
Chris Hanna - B.K.I.T.B - “Broken Knuckles in the Bunatee” is a dedication to the roof at the parties in the Bunatee – which has seen more broken knuckles that it cares to mention…

Ejeca – Squelch - Stripped back techno bomb from Ejeca that has already picked up a tune of the week accolade on BBC Radio One.

JC Williams – Paradox - A slice of Belfast acid courtesy of the analogue master JC Williams. Fresh from releasing material on Jackmaster’s Ultimate Hits label, it's clear to see why he is picking up fans all over the globe at the minute.

Cophin - Way Mon Tah - Fresh from their recent Superfreak EP, the Cophin duo serve us up a proper slice of peak time business via Way Mon Tah. This stab driven techno number wouldn’t sound out of place on Delsin records and prove the lads have a lot of range to what they can offer

EP050 - T-BONE & JMX PRES. STATEMENT OF INTENT.

Chris Hanna's EP50 track is his homage to the ceiling in the Bunatee room at QUSUB, that literally takes a regular hammering from crowd appeciation of great music and performances from djs.

First up on 2016 honours is Moodtrax, who impressed us a lot with his killer Eastside Rhythm cut on the Statement Of Intent release.

Andy has completely wowed us once again with this ace three track debut single which comfortably tackles a range of styles with flair and expertise.

Lead track Translantic is a brooding electronic weapon that shows a definite nod to Detroit with it's killer pads and hypnotic groove, proper machine soul on display here folks.

Good o your ear hole ploughs even deeper and shows a warmer side to Moodtrax's sound with raw hammond funk licks and proves this is an artist with a range of influences.

Boogieman returns to the darker territory of his Eastside cut and is another proper jack track, meaning all areas of the those discerning floors are covered very effectively.

Martin De Brig puts Translantic through his acid grinder on his remix and shows once again why his is a man who knows h is hardware inside out and completes the package perfectly in our opinion.

EP051 - Moodtrax - Translantic ep w/ Martin De Brig remix

Next up we have some weekend artillery from Belfast men Ejeca & Chris Hanna, who join forces to create an EP of missiles all aimed squarely at those darker floors.

Chris takes first honors with his whopper “Gimme More”, which jacks along with swinging percussion and a pulsing bass until it reaches it’s mammoth drop. The haunting driving vocals really add to an overall eerie feel and we love that little sine sound, which reminds us of vintage Peacefrog.

Ejeca gets on his studio machines for an après weekend workout to create a stripped back body jacker, we do believe there was “Sweat Involved” making this bad boy. We absolutely love Garry in raw techno mode, simplistic in approach here (dare we say minimal), yet sounds mammoth in a club… Skills!

On closer “Commando” the two lads share production duties and their love of Schwarzenegger movies and really push things further into out there territories, the synths in this are beautifully bonkers and the dubby approach completes this trippy electronics package perfectly. If you like your electronics from the darker side, get on these pronto…

For our sixtieth we shed the spotlight on T-Bone & production partner Batara for the first original material to surface from their new studio project.

Born out of a shared love of Dance Mania, Relief Records, Moodymann and basically the art of sampling within house music. They've been holed up all year in T-Bone's studio chopping and pasting like madmen and created a 12 track body of work that will be released on the label in early 2017.

On lead track "Take What is Ours" they team up with local vocalist Jai Sian for a proper soul flecked peak time stab workout."Custard Tart" a robust club no that is peppered with a Rhodes to maintain that soulful edge."Rimini" a nod to the hotspot in the days when Italo Disco reigned supreme but put through the T&B blender for some extra jack."R.T.O" wraps things up in a jazz soaked vein, sprinkled with soul but jacked to the max, as per dig in and let us know your favs.

For his second outing on Extended Play, Jordan serves up the Smoke & Mirrors EP and delivers even more machine made soul.

Across the three synth heavy originals, he covers everything from deeper electronics to peak time sounds with flair.

We stay in Ireland once again for the remixers with firm favourite LOR providing a mix for those early morning floors with a tripped out version of "Soliloquy" that's already finding favour with the Innervisions crew.

Berlin based Cork man Brian Ring takes time out from writing belters on Running Back to take "Soliloquy" on a chugging heads down house dub.

Quality electronics across five cuts of modern house music is what we reckon.

The winner of this year's emerging producer competition in conjunction with the AVA festival, Henrique Franco under his Black Jack moniker ft Untitled and the seriously fresh sounding Bowl. Big shout also to Dewar & Daser, all three finalists were so, so strong.

As we hit the ripe old age of 65 we entice Belfast OGs Scoper & Bubba back into the ring, with their first new material in well over a decade.

As usual it's a first class lesson in how to create hypnotic house using clever sampling and drum machines with touches of disco, soul and acid. Check, check, check!

We have Belfast's Night Institute lads on the remixes with Jordan taking Touch Me for an 80s inspired electro wiggle and T-Bone heading to the peak time and darker floors with his dubby techno take on Don't You know.

All four tracks are tried and tested gold for all shades of the dance floor.

JC Williams returns to the home town imprint like a fireball, with an all killer, no filler four tracker. We have loved this guy since day one and he's developed into one of the best producers in Ireland in our opinion.

These tracks were derived from his recent Boiler Room live set at the AVA festival.

First up he tackles Basic Channel inspired techno & breaks with his amazing trademark synth work through out on lead cut Solar Shift.

Deep driving acid up next, again combined with those killer keys and emotive strings on his nod to Belfast's amazing AVA experience.

Peaktime psychedelic disco heat ensues via Sonic Shroom and to close he showcases his love for electro and breaks once again on the ace Rokit. All tracks delivered in that distinctive JC style.

Designed to attack the dancefloor like a bulldozer, tried and tested all four hit hard!

One last release from us this year and it's an absolute cracker. Dublin's @https://soundcloud.com/quintoncampbell has delivered once again with four amazing and versatile club cuts. The Colours EP is exactly that, a palette of great house music.

Blue tackles afro with ease. Green robust and jacking, red deep and hypnotic and yellow a peak time bomb.

For the first release in our summer 2018 campaign we head towards the sea and the port of Bangor to be precise.

Tetsu has been honing his skills for years, through an initial love affair with the early days of rave culture to house and techno of more recent times.

On lead track Tears, he displays that love of rave breaks with the amazing addition of orchestral strings and soul edged vocals. This one has been transporting us back to the early days of Raindance, Fantazia, Mickey Finn and Moving Shadow.

Headstrong charges off on a more straight up techno route and comes out as a very robust clubby stab workout.

Dublin’s ace Daser takes Tears on an electro trip that twists and turns in a beautiful manner.

Scotland’s finest basement destroyers the Dixon Avenue lads bring Tetsu to the Glasgow warehouse afters for an acid workout that is truly for the headstrong.

Northern Ireland via Brazil via Austrailia as Blackjack Ft. Untitled throw down the amazing live funk jam "Bowl". The Vendetta Suite royally dub and trip things out, Bellcrash bring 80s inspired electro and Mr Mur provides rough driving house. This one really packs the funk throughout!

As we stride into our thirties, we decided it was time to commit some of our solid workouts to wax.

So first up we are putting our trust in Dutch wunderkind & raw house specialist De Sluwe Vos (The Sly Fox) and his vocal cohort Beaumont Livingstone and their roof raising anthem “Believe” which we firmly *ahem* believe is set to ignite dance floors across the world all summer long after being repeatedly road tested by T-Bone & JMX to rapturous results.

English gentleman Timmy P steps up for remix duties and splashes the lotion all over “Believe”, creating a great upbeat version to complement the brooding original with a mix that is bound to make great sense at any roof top parties.

“I.izab” completes the package with it’s dubbed out dark house vibe and John Mood turns it into a proper piece of blissed out techno with his mix which perfectly brings proceedings to a close.

We honestly reckon you may find it hard to get a better package deal than you'll get on these hot summer burners.

Extended Play 032 - De Sluwe Vos - Believe ep w/ Timmy P & John Mood remixes

One of Belfast's bright new lights Chris Hanna makes a welcome return to EP with the club destroyer Workhorse and we can testify that this dark edged weapon is indeed a proper black beauty.

We draft in two firm favourites here at EXTND PLY HQ for remix duties. First up Irish wonder boy Brame dons his scuba gear and takes Work horse to the depths on his acid soaked mix while Root's for Bloom's main man Jamie Trench strips things right back on his melodic electronic ride.

Flip side track "Check It Out" is yet another solid club workout that bumps along with a killer hypnotic bounce & summery vox cuts and stabs that create a lighter feel in great contrast to the darkness on the EP.
