An intrepid selector with divergent tastes @mikey-bman style is best described as musically untethered, fusing rapid hard hitting sounds with industrial elements whilst experimenting with multiple sub-genres of leftfield, techno, breaks and hard dance. 

Founder of RNGD (Renegade), a prominent icon in Sydney’s techno culture specialising in unfiltered sides of electronic music his passion for the underground music scene is limitless. Having supported major acts such as Kobosil, VSK, Jensen Interceptor and Reptant to name a few, with a forte in late night vibes and high energy he always aims to unhinge the dance floor.

Having played in clubs, warehouses, and raves in Sydney, Shere Khan is now navigating through the Melbourne electronic scene, constantly developing and refining his sound, inspired by new artists and connections along the way.

This blend is deep and tribal, bringing elements of jungle, percussive breaks, and a bit of dnb, showcasing labels such as Homemade Weapons, 47, and Zodiac Music to name a few.

Welcome to another episode of Select the Motion! 

This week we have a very talented duo who go by the name "pear". The duo, Izzy and Vic, are a pair of friends who fell in love with techno on a Tuesday night in Kyiv, Ukraine. Since then, they’ve dedicated themselves to creating thoughtful mixes that blend heavier techno with melodic electronica. Their sets aim to be ambient, emotive and engaging - featuring artists such as I Hate Models, DJ IBON, Paula Temple and Schacke.

Bracing the decks with some sweet selections this week we have the very talented, Pharmakos.

Pharmakos, aka James Heydon, is not currently affiliated to any club or night but the aspirations are fairly simple: to see the nightlife rise back up to where it should and give people the cathartic release they need. Genres partaken in range from jungle and breaks, right down to the murky depths of industrial techno. Pharmakos has a deep passion and affinity for music, working tirelessly to hone in and perfect his craft to provide nothing but sweet, aural delicacies

Select the Motion 004: Pharmakos

We are up to episode 5 of Select the Motion and as we draw nearer to the zenith of what has been a plentiful aural journey, we are braced by the very gifted, Red Rey.

Red Rey is a non-binary, Filipino, Sydney based DJ & performer. Their music is influenced by queer club culture, sex-positivity, and warehouse raves. Red Rey is part of Ante, an arts collective celebrating people of colour and also an alumni of Ayebatonye’s, Irregular Fit DJ program. Red Rey has recently also appeared on the Covid Room and Room2Radio Line-ups.

Tribal in both rhythm and harmony, with lots of low-end rumble and gritty overtones, their mix extracts the listener out of the mundane and into a distant realm.

Select the Motion 005: Red Rey

Co-founder of Extract The Motion, @rohannpatel takes the helms for this week’s mix. Taking a more methodical and considered approach to his mixing style, Rōhan juxtaposes long melodic builds with ear-grabbing changes. His versatility behind the decks reflects his craft as a producer, focusing on weaving rhythms and pensive breakdowns that create immersive and distinct soundscapes. 

This mix takes a step back from hard hitting rave culture and explores a niche selection of breaky house and electronic sounds that journeys the listener across myriad emotions and grooves. Settle in and enjoy the ride.

Veteran of groove @kooscha steers us for Episode 7 of our mix series. Blending deep and hypnotic minimal with ethereal house, this mix elegantly navigates a complex soundscape of dubby sounds and tight baselines.

Kooscha is infamous for dosing crowds with his signature deep and dubby textures.  His early ambient work garnered the attention of online communities and earned him an international appearance at Moogfest 2014. Through experimenting with sound design and music composition, Kooscha has since fine-tuned his sound and released a plethora of music.

Select The Motion 007: Kooscha

For Episode 8 we have Melbourne DJ  @tiana-zimmermann.

As a DJ, Tahinii explores sounds in an experimental manner, reaching across all genres to both summarise and celebrate her taste. Her music collection is nostalgically affiliated to personal experiences in the dance scene and treasured memories from partying across the globe. Most of these nightlife experiences were centralised in Europe, where she avidly sought new sounds and inspirations. Tahinii spent her early years in Switzerland, where she was lucky enough to explore the 90’s trance/techno scene that was rising in Zurich at the time. Her Swiss, German and South African roots have influenced an eclectic and diverse blend of bouncing jungle and fragmented beats that ebb and flow in pace and energy, serving to build a vibrational, ethereal, intergalactic feel in her sets.

This week for Select the Motion, we take a dark, heavy turn with none other than the very talented, Posture.

Posture (https://soundcloud.com/user-469703910) is a Sydney producer/DJ and member of the illustrious Velodrome Family. Since his emergence on the scene he has beamed a pure love for music through his events, releases and fortnightly show on Nomad Radio. From organising immersive raves to releasing on the Velodrome Label, Posture has been pushing the boundaries of dance culture in Sydney.

For this week's Select The Motion we have @mi77enz.

Over the past 6 years, Milenze has successfully navigated her way through Sydney’s diverse electronic music scene as an esteemed DJ and producer. With influences stemmed from Sydney’s pre lock out era, Milenze aka mi77enz has been a regular commander of dance floors across the city and beyond. Beginning her career as a DJ while simultaneously running events to showcase and mentor local talent, she has established herself as a prestigous figure among the DJ community. 

Choosing to deviate from genre expectations, her focus as a selector has been to curate sets with a mixture of old school house, heavy rolling kick drums and dubby baselines. Milenze is no stranger to throwing down rapid breakbeat alongside dub techno, sneaking in a rave classic from ’94.
