Taken from the "Shimmerland EP" by North Lake releasing April 14th on Vinyl, April 21st on Digital!

After Architectural’s Heaven Can Wait EP from earlier this year, North Lake here supplies three techno gems on this 12” for Maceo Plex’s Ellum, following up a string of hit releases with Sweatshop, Phonica, Permanent Vacation and others. Each track displays North Lake’s expert craft in a different way. Opening up is ‘Shimmer Land’, who’s haunting melodies and textures grow and grow throughout the track, over an undeniably infectious, tightly swung drum groove. Next up is ‘Solid Metal Funk’, which immediately lives up to its name with percussive stabs of metallic FM synthesis. These stabs form a rhythmic and melodic backbone for the track, dancing around over five minutes while simple drums hold this effortlessly danceable composition together. The B side of this 12” is ‘Paper Dreams’, which quickly disregards the lightness of its precursor in favour of a clearly deep house inspired techno, using swirling synths and emotional melodies in careful equilibrium. The result is a track that simultaneously pulls one half of you into a trancelike, insular state, and the other half of you to the centre of the dancefloor. The perfect end to this sublime, multifaceted EP.

The bee-eater is the most colorful bird of our native lands; a quality which is echoed through the piece of the same name. The composition oscillates from one color into another without losing its significant habitus. It is a musical journey through the color scheme of the bee-eater, through which Dominik Eulberg takes us by way of his iconic style. He succeeds at a striking balancing act between sensitive subtlety and steady pressure, in order to offer us a satisfying share of hedonism. It is a piece of music that provides an intimate listening experience, while simultaneously supplying listeners with a collective, mobilizing anthem. The long introduction of the track emulates the agile flight for prey of the dazzling bird, but then it fervently taps out the stinger of the captured bee, and finally nothing can stand in the way of the massiveness of the celebratory bass drum. Intrepid, yet with a high degree of ataraxia, Dominik leads us through the skies on an expedition into the colorful land of the bee-eater.
