I started this song while in a dark mood. I love listening to dark phonk songs, but I'm left feeling disappointed by the lack of musicianship or variety sometimes. I combined elements from oldschool house, complextro, phonk, and of course my signature flute.

I started this song much longer after the mix was out, meaning I've never shown it to anyone until this release. It was my most painful song to make, due to feeling crushed under the weight of finishing things. I consider this, by far, my darkest song.

Nonetheless, an optimistic touch too, because that is simply how I am =)

Fun lil backstory

So, why am I creo's first collab? well, I personally still can't comprehend. Like many of you, I was still a conniving goober, frolicking on cube game as a kid, when I first heard Dimension on black blizzard. Creo has a tendency to make music that you hear once and never forget. My theory is that my silly little comments on some of his works have caught his attention, and that is how we became homies of the highest order.

We began work on this collab more than 2 years ago and it nearly fell into abandonment many times due to a lack of any remotely satisfying idea. To prevent this collab from collapsing, I spent countless hours obsessing over one final ID, just one more attempt to make a drop that has a chance of living up to how legendary this collab ought to be. On a very uneventful evening toiling away at the drop, I accidentally shifted the entire melody forward by a bar, and it sounded heavenly... I layered some vocal chops onto my signature flute lead and it sounded x100 more massive than I had ever expected. I immediately showed it to Creo, who was still a little burnt out from the myriad of scrapped drops.

This was it bois. It was an unforgettable melody. Personally, it grew on me so much that I lowkey wish that I made this song the main lead single of its own megaproject.

Nonetheless, I applaud creo for hanging in there. The whole second drop was stressful to mix and hard to come up with, with but once we had a solid direction, we polished everything up and it now happens to be among my absolute favorite drop ever period.

Title track off the Save This World EP! A deceivingly wholesome deity receives orders from the sun God to eradicate miscreants. Storywriting, designing, modelling, rigging, shading, animating, syncing, painting, so many components that went into this project. I always underestimate the pace needed to complete a fully-fledged music video. Can't complete more than a few such megaprojects in my lifetime. Every year spent ameliorating the last details, to bring y'all something that ought to stand the test of time. Enjoy listening!

Fun lil backstory

Before I even learned how to produce, I would always hang out in music producers' servers and in the help channels, people always used this website called "Clyp" to share what they're working on. Paper skies has been in the game grindin' for HELLA long because back in the day, people were really looking up to him and he was trending on clyp. His progress is honestly awesome to witness. Even through his ups and downs, bro is STILL grinding despite events as insanely unbased and not goated as promoters gatekeeping him from liveshows.

Thus, years later, as a fellow Canadian homie when he asked to be collab partners for a 24 hour contest, you already know it was gonna be legendary. We made some absolutely INSANE progress on the song during the contest which you can actually hear in a mix I did a while ago. We decided this was a special song and we wanted to take our time with it, iron out all the mixing quirks, prepare visuals, etc. It's the EXACT type of nostalgic, complextro goodness that takes me back to the simpler times, back when I enjoyed EDM for the first time. It's a True 50/50 collab, where both of us did our best to integrate our styles!

Fun facts: The original song "Exyl - Barcode Valkyrie" might be familiar if you heard my mix from last year. I scrapped the “Valkyrie” theme, but the song title is really badass for some reason… so I kept it. Been quietly working on it for a while. I Wouldn't be here today without geometry dash. Literally, I discovered electronic music for the first time thanks to this game. To this day, it's still one of the biggest remaining communities of electro fans, and I cherish that. Its creators are hella talented. This song is a tribute to GD because I'm excited for its 2.2 update. Happy 10th birthday to gd :)
