In March 2022, Jiminy Hop released his dazzling 3-track "Johlin" EP to widespread critical acclaim. Meanwhile now revisits the EP with a remix of "Colatrix" from Australian legend and label co-founder, Matter.

Matty Doyle has been at the cutting edge of underground house for over a decade with his Matter pseudonym. A leading exponent of the modern progressive sound, his trademark basslines and captivating rhythmic backdrops have lit up clubs across the globe. Often in collaboration with friend and fellow Melbourne resident, GMJ, Matter's music has found favour among such illustrious imprints as Anjunadeep, Proton Music, Mango Alley and onedotsixtwo. Furthermore, over 40 production credits have found their way onto Meanwhile and Meanwhile Horizons, with the latter accounting for November 2011's full album debut, "Starchild".

Returning to the flagship imprint, home of November 2020's "Amanita" and January 2022's "Banksia", the Matter remix of "Colatrix" is propelled forward with a thumping kick and shaker-fuelled top line. Adding a buttery smooth arpeggio to proceedings that deliciously filters as it develops, familiar melodic elements from Jiminy Hop's track drift across the 8-minute offering. Sumptuous pads, fizzing with white-noise energy, pulsate through the post-breakdown denouement as Matter finds a way to extend the original in new and vibrant directions.

As Matter revisits Jiminy Hop with trademark elegance and brio "Colatrix" is given another opportunity to shine brightly in multi-faceted beauty.

Scaling the heights with the soaring “Levera | Agmoli” in September 2022, Jiminy Hop continued his impressive relationship with Meanwhile. Now returning to the EP, a pair of remixes from the Australian label heads and a Dutch icon continue the story.

Revitalised after a European tour and sold-out label showcase at ADE 2023, GMJ & Matter continue to ride the crest of a tidal wave of success. Founded upon a distinctive and evergreen production sound, the duo’s music continues to make waves of its own reaching dancefloors across the world, supported by global DJ A-listers. Moreover, the duo’s output on Meanwhile has seen a raft of original work since April 2020 in the shape of three original EPs, plus remixes for Roger Martinez, Simos Tagias, Rich Curtis and Alex O’Rion. Fresh from October 2023’s “Arkeron” on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, GMJ & Matter return to their spiritual home with a typically inspiring remix of “Levera”. Anchored by a kick full of heavyweight power, a rolling groove easily filters into the sonic frame as familiar percussive tropes from the original echo across the 8-minute piece. Evolving in dark and brooding majesty, a cadenced bassline adds weight and club-friendly hypnotism before a siren-filled breakdown heralds a third movement that brings in subtle variation, arpeggiated motifs and an immaculately blended central melodic riff from Jiminy Hop’s track. The result is another 24-carat gold remix that showcases GMJ & Matter’s talent to its fullest.

An artist at the vanguard of progressive house for over 15 years, Alex O’Rion continues to find himself much in-demand. From early outings on Black Hole focusing on trance, Alex’s work for Sudbeat Music, The Soundgarden and his own newly minted Solis Records has crystallised into a sumptuous deep progressive house sound. A regular on Meanwhile with a raft of original and remix work, May 2021’s 4-track “Echium” and August 2022’s “Solis / Pluvia / Sericum” EPs have lit up the label. Following on from remixes for GMJ & Matter and Rich Curtis, Alex O’Rion now delivers a typically smooth and effervescent reworking of “Agmoli”. A chest-thumping kick and clicking top-line supply head-shaking groove as familiar refrains from the original shimmer across the mid-range pre-breakdown. Through a sublime melodic narrative, a cast of characters both old and new, showcase O’Rion’s production talents as jagged analogue synth phrases coruscate in complex patterns, interwoven with arpeggiated patterns from Jiminy Hop’s track. Full of sonic intrigue and a palette of mellifluous sequences, the remix hits glorious heights post-breakdown as the full combination of bass, rhythm and melody combine to wondrous effect.

As we enter the summer frenzy of festivals, late nights and fun, Sudbeat introduce Ezequiel Arias with a triple dose of warm, inviting beats to soundtrack those musical adventures. The Argentinian will be familiar to many with stand out tracks already on high profile labels such as Plattenbank and Replug. For his debut on Sudbeat, Arias unveils three consistently brilliant tracks - 'Passenger', 'Control Is an Illusion' and 'Inertia' - which perfectly showcase his talents as a producer.

The influence of Kevin Di Serna (Ezequiel’s mentor and close friend) is clear to see. Opening track, ‘Passenger’ has a driving percussive undertow crafted with delicate synth sweeps, pads and ethereal voices to add to the drama. It exudes a warmth and completeness that will have you begging for more on each play.

‘Control Is an Illusion’ continues the theme of subtle driving deepness from the first beat. More energetic in sound design that the opener, it is a good lesson in how sparse arrangements and clever use of tension and release can result in a track that captivates the dance floor. Arias pays a great deal of attention to the finer details making his music stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Closing the EP is ‘Inertia’. Far from being sluggish or lethargic, Arias employs his most bold sound designs on this robust peak-timer. Bubbling acidic undertones meander alongside the track mark pads which build in intensity with ethereal voices. A shaker-led percussion adds greatly to the drive of the track making this the heaviest of the three. A superb finale to a well crafted debut release.

Hailing from Cordoba, the Argentinean artist has grown into one of his country’s most prodigious progressive house talents. Upon making his debut in 2013, Ezequiel became a favourite of both Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Subsequent releases on Plattenbank, Replug, Sudbeat and The Soundgarden followed shortly thereafter and cemented the Argentine’s place amongst the progressive house elite. Ezequiel made his debut on our free download series with the well received ‘2AM’. Written in conjunction with fellow countryman and Sudbeat artists Interaxxis the track featured heavily in the sets of progressive house tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J, Guy Mantzur and Sahar Z. Now returning for his second appearance Ezequiel unveils his much sought after ‘Private’ remix of Michael A’s ‘Ciklus One’. Originally released on Proton, Ezequiel’s interpretation has been shrouded in mystery after being aired in Hernan’s sets for the better part of a year. Next up on Sudbeat the return of the uprising star Ezequiel Arias with his second full release after an incredible debut EP that’s still one of the best seller on the label.
Ezequiel has also been featured on “El Maestro” Hernan Cattaneo’s recent Balance mix album. In keeping with that theme, the B side track ‘Rotator’ comes with a bonus day mix version.

Title track ‘Globular’ leads the way though. From the bedrock of solid kick and percussion comes a glorious, musical melodies, ethereal pads and a rubbery bassline that adds bags of soul. ‘Rotator’ in original form is a vibrant, upbeat affair. Galloping bass adds forward momentum from the first bar, which is soon joined by sweeps, FX and killer hook in the break. The day mix of ‘Rotator’ begins in ambience. Broken beats usher in pads and percussive layers slowly as the track builds up to its ethereal climax.

In celebration of Replug’s ten year anniversary Cid Inc & Orsen present their debut collaboration alongside remixes from Nick Muir and Barry Jamieson. Founded in 2009 by Finnish artist and DJ Henri Hurtig aka Cid Inc., Replug has carefully forged a path to progressive music excellence. Through releasing much of Henri’s most sought after material to the genre’s freshest artists, the label has continued to flourish and forever has it’s finger on the pulse of the movement. Having already released his ‘Look Twice’ EP in March of 2015, it was January of 2016 which saw UK born, Austria based artist Dan Baseley aka Orsen take over the label’s managerial duties. A key moment in Replug's journey, as Cid Inc’s tour schedule and mastering service had left him less time to focus on the label. Moving forward the duo proved to be a great team, with Replug furthering itself as a premiere destination for progressive music’s most sought after talent. Now in what has been a remarkable decade long journey, it seems only appropriate that Cid Inc and Orsen unite to commemorate the occasion with the aptly titled ‘Ten’. 

From the opening bars of ‘Ten’ you get an immediate sense of how strong the creative synergy is between Cid Inc and Orsen. Powerful and inviting, it’s warm foundation is full of contour and character, while a buzzing tone and rugged design build tension as the narrative takes shape. Hitting early, a short break serves to introduce an astral arp, playing off the rhythmic elements and adding further cadence to already swing heavy groove. Spanning over a minute in length, it is the second and final break which provides a unique contrast of emotion and drama. As modulation reaches a feverous peak, impassioned chord changes offset the metallic wall, before getting washed away into a wave of cosmic effects as the groove drops for a thunderous finale.
