As a British-born Black person who respects diversity and supports LGBTQ+ rights, it is natural to question one’s place in a society where such movements gain traction. This essay explores the effectiveness of appeasement in dealing with populism, examines Reform UK’s policies and their vision for the UK, and reflects on historical parallels with 1930s Germany, all from the perspective of a Black British individual.

No one clocked it, fam, not back in twenty-five.
Man were just living, tryna get by on the daily grind.
No one thought we were being watched from the deep ends of the galaxy.
Spied on like a science project, a specimen for their whole faculty.
Barely a man considered life on other planets, that's real.
But across the void, intellects way bigger than ours were watching this Earth with a mad appeal.
And slow, and steady, they were drawing up their plans against our people.
I was on a job for the Beeb, setting up mics in a Hackney steeple. This is what I saw.

Was a Tuesday, twelfth of August, midnight on the dot.
A mad green light erupted from the sky, speeding towards our block.
Two hundred million miles of darkness, silent, flying at our ends.
The first of the drops that was gonna bring pure chaos to my friends.
As I'm watching, another flash, another streak of gas.
It's a second canister, starting its long journey, moving fast.

Next morning, Pymmes Park is taped off, a brand new crater on the scene.
The mandem are gathered 'round, phones out, living in a waking dream.
A cylinder, thirty yards wide, still burning hot from the flight.
And you can hear faint sounds from inside, something moving in the fading light.
Then the lid starts turning, a slow, unscrewing motion.
Some youngers thought a man was trapped, full of brave-faced emotion.
They rushed the canister, but the heat pushed them back from the metal, too hot to touch the frame.
Everyone just stood there, waiting to see who was playing this mad game.

The lid just dropped. Silence. Then two glowing disc-like eyes.
A massive rounded body, bigger than a bear, starts to slowly rise.
Shining like black oil, slick and wet, it made my stomach heave.
No mouth, just quivering flesh, and tentacles you wouldn't believe.
A couple youngers edged closer, tryna get a clip for the socials.
Then a tall funnel rose up, and a heat beam jumped, beyond brutal.
A blinding glare as each one of them was instantly turned to ash.
Every bush and tree just burst into a blaze in a single flash.

People were screaming, clambering over fences, and fam, I ran too.
I felt like I was being hunted, that this red light would just melt me and my crew.
It was meant to be a normal night in N9… just another night in my zone...
Now the sky is burning… and we are not alone.

I got back to my yard on the Galliard, sunk into a haunted sleep.
Woke up to alien sounds, something hammering from the crater deep.
Slapped on my sliders, ran to the corner shop to grab the morning paper.
'Round me, the daily routine, life was carrying on, no time for a vapour.
The 491 bus still rolling serene, mums doing the school run.
While in Pymmes Park, they were building their machines, sleepless under our sun.
Now and then a red beam, like a searchlight from a warship, swept the green.
And I knew that savage Heat Ray was ready to follow, making the whole scene obscene.

"Come in, fam. What's the reason?"

"They rinsed us, bruv. Wiped us out. Hundreds gone, thousands I doubt… even made it that far."
