Shiken Hanzo is DJ and producer who has had various release on labels such as Cylon Recordings, Samurai Music, Repertoire, Blackest Ever Blacks sub label A14, Hojo Clan (his own label) and also released his first 2x LP on Inperspective Records earlier this year.
His newest music has coming out as a track on a 2X LP 12” compilation due out on the 17th of November 2021 on the Shotgun Festival label.
He also has a 12” Vinyl EP coming out probably in early 2022.

Back in September 2023 deviate saw Dennis Leick aka dreadmaul, drive a car load full of instruments and equipment from Mainz to Berlin. What followed was a completely original live-productions set. The vibe was beyond something special and truly legendary. We wanted to release this set despite some technical challenges with recording devices (as is the nature with “live”), its just too good to leave sitting on hard-drives. Thanks, peace and love out to the one and only dreadmaul and of course to all deviate supporters.

The Untouchables is the Belgian duo of Kay & Nitrox, crafting dark, dub-heavy drum and bass since the early 2000s. Their sound blends deep halfstep, tribal rhythms, and distorted bass, with releases on labels like Samurai Music, Rupture, and Renegade Hardware.

It’s been quite some time since my last mix, but I’m excited to share a new one I’ve been working on. This mix features a variety of unreleased and upcoming tracks from both myself and my recent collaborator, Exm, showcasing our unique styles and creative synergy.
In addition to our original work, I’ve woven in some exceptional IDM tracks that reflect what I’ve been listening to lately, including artists like Vaag, Marric, Djrum, Sdem, and many more. Welcome to the 96th chapter of the Deep Electronics Podcast. This weeks set is a very special one because it's the very first time to have a Atmospheric Drum N Bass set in the series.
It's also mixed by Aural Imbalance. Very known for his deep intens and very rythmic Atmospheric Drum N Bass music.

Aural Imbalance Bio:

Aural Imbalance AKA Simon Huxtable has been writing and creating atmospheric music since
1997, creating deep emotive tracks across many electronic music genres including drum & bass
and spacey house / progressive. The key to the AI sound is deep synthesis with the focus on the
spaced out atmospherics that create a warm hypnotic feel.
The Aural Imbalance sound has spanned the globe with original tracks and remixes over various
established electronic labels including Cadence Recordings, Within Records, Lynx Recordings,
Advection Music, Greta Cottage Workshop, Secrets of the Sun Recordings, Ascendent Grooves,
Elliptical Sun Recordings, SoulRidaz, 7 Seas Records, Stasis Recordings, Cambrian Line,
OdysseyRecordings, Embarcadero Records, Adro Records and has also had tracks featured on
mixed CD’s on Global Underground.
The sound that Simon has been producing and involved with has gained support from some of
themajor players in the electronic music scene, this is both in a solo guise as Aural Imbalance
and with collaborative efforts as part of Deep Space Organisms, Monothy, Idforma and Inspired
Minds in which he has teamed up with other very talented producers. Simon is also part of a new
acoustic/ electronic band called “Out of Plato’s Cave” who with singer songwriter Rhys Davies have
a debut album “Solipsist” which came in 2013 on Greta Cottage Workshop.
The debut album project by Aural Imbalance is a deep D&B album called “Legacy” on Cadence
which is released on limited edition CD and is available exclusively via www.movementinsound.com
this is a nine track LP that is mixed together into a nice spaced out atmospheric romp into the
deeper side of drum & bass.
As a follow up to the album a remix project of the original tracks from Legacyreleased (2014),
include remixes from, The Outerworld, Orange & Blue, Tidal, Tomi Chair, Groofeo, Donald Wilborn,
Audapta, Pat Foosheen, Shane Berry, Eschaton & Nennah, PHD & Furney in addition to this there will a few surprises on the album as somevery special guests will be doing some versions of the
originals too. Also Simon has recently finished his debut album for Advection Music and this is scheduled to be
released in 2015 - 2016 again following the deeper side of D&B and House music. Other projects
will take shape in the nearfuture, a pure ambient project is in the works and this will be released
under another pseudonym thiswill be announced through the usual social media channels at the
time of completion of this newproject.
In addition to this expect new EP,s and remixes forthcoming in 2015 - 2016 as new relationships
are being forged with labels from across the globe and debuts will be made on labelslike Stasis
Recordings and Monochrome Recordings. With new albums expected in 2016 on
Movementinsound and Stasis Recordings in 2017, watch this space :-).

The story of this mix dates probably back to 2014, but I've lost track. Having recorded my previous studio mix I was wondering where I should take things next. The obvious next step from a DJ perspective would have been to record something harder, to showcase the side of my selection that hadn't received its spotlight. Maybe get a booking or two off the back of that. Then I decided to do the exact opposite! I picked the side of drum & bass that most promoters steer clear of, but that resonates with me the most - Autonomic.

Can't count how many times I've scrapped the tracklist ideas I've had for this mix whenever I'd acquire a track that I felt NEEDED to be featured. Those tracks always ended up changing the direction of the set. Or I'd play back the combos I already had picked and realised they weren't all that good. That led me to believe *I* wasn't that good if I can't piece a mix together (and believe me, that shit really goes to my head, I'm an ambitious motherfucker). I would give up working on it for a week or even a few months. As time flew by, I had even more tunes that in turn kept changing my initial concept... well, you get the picture!

Until one day I finally decided to just say: "fuck it!" and get that final draft of the tracklist. Still took me a good few evenings piecing the idea together and I had no clue whether it would flow as well as I would imagine it to be until I'd actually have a go and actually record it. But then another thing dawned on me. I've put over 131 tracks on the list (137 if you count the teased ones) and the entire thing would take 5 hours or more to mix. Well, shit.

That raised a whole new level of self-doubt. Who would even listen to a mix that long? We live in an age of an ever shortening attention span, people stop listening to mixes in favour of single tracks (hell, I myself find myself listening to less sets than I used to because "I don't have time"). But then I remembered why I wanted to record this in the first place - for myself and myself only. And if I would end up the only listener who would take the time to travel the entire journey and take the story in from beginning til end, then so be it. Thankfully some of your responses to my doubts on FB encouraged me as well. If you were part of those few voices outside my head, thank you. A special shout-out goes to my man CrissNSA of Dungeon Beats for letting me use his 3-deck setup. That definitely helped me push myself even further, as well as shorten it to 4,5h.

And that's exactly what I did, finally. I recorded this mix over a year ago and I still wasn't sure if it's good enough. I had a couple of people test-listen to it for feedback, but most of all I needed to have that one final internal dialogue (monologue?) to make the final decision and leap of faith. It may be "just a mix" to some, but by the time I scrapped yet another tracklist and started putting together the final one, the intent of this being my opus magnum was very strong. 

Did I succeed? Time will tell. But it's also time to stop being so precious about it.

TL;DR - This is a mix that took me a good 4-5 years to put together, for all the reasons mentioned above and more. There's more to it than just Autonomic of course, it bridges the gap between that side of DNB as well as its roots and other bits and pieces that just fit the story well. I hope you take your time to listen to it in one sitting, one day. The music deserves it.
