Empty Handed (Acoustic)

The term annex typically describes a structure joined to a main building, offering extra space or function. In this spirit, Tresor Records revives the ANNEX series with a new end-of-year collection that serves as an extension of the label and club’s output, adding to the creative life that has unfolded within Köpenicker Str. 70 over the past years.

Since the club moved in 2007, the Kraftwerk complex has been repurposed from its original use as a power station to fulfil multiple functions that bring people together to collaborate and congregate: Office, venue, club, exhibition space, and home to the Berlin Atonal festival, the Tresor Foundation, and the Academy of Subcultural Understanding. With the arrival of the Hard Wax record shop in 2023, the building now offers another way for the like-minded to come together and to share ideas in a common space.

ANNEX echoes the many roles of the building by fostering introduction, connection, and creation: all of the music within was created by individuals directly linked to Tresor: from club staff and residents to Hard Wax employees and long-time friends.

Across 28 tracks, the compilation unites artists from various backgrounds and generations, some collaborating for the first time, creating a moment in motion as Tresor heads into a new year.

A rare mix from the Dutch artist also known as A Made Up Sound, 2562 and ex_libris. 

What makes something sound like Dave Huismans? His music carries a signature you can't quite name, a tension which has defined every chapter of his career. And unlike most producers, he really does operate in phases. 

A man of many monikers, Huismans resurfaced this year after nearly a decade away with two new aliases, ex_libris and In Transit. His latest ventures, though sonically a world away from the work under his most recognised projects, share the same slipperiness, intricacy and disregard for tidy genre borders. 

"Naiveté and a lack of prejudice… a really wide-eyed type of open-mindedness," Huismans once told RBMA, recalling his youthful forays into dance music and that ethos is alive and well on RA.1015.

Huismans's second RA Mix is as equally thrilling as his first one 15 years ago, traversing a map of influences from Madlib and Gyrofield to Prince and Autechre.  There's no shortage of atmosphere (Losoul's "Sunbeams and the Rain" is one particular highlight), but the throughline is groove: soulful, vocal deep house into driving techy depths, walls of glitchy drums and frantic percussion into guitar funk. 

"I got carried away a bit," Huismans says of RA.1015 below. And that's no bad thing. It sounds like someone enjoying himself again, and perhaps, after letting a few old skins fall away, Huismans is ready to shift shape once more. And if it's anything like the last time, a lot of good music awaits.

“Yesterday Still Haunts Me” is where the soul faces the weight of its own history, the storms, the mistakes, and the unspoken regrets that still sit heavy. The blues-trap G-Funk fusion mirrors the emotional turbulence: dark streets, empty seats, and memories that refuse to be silent.
This is the shadow chapter, the one you can’t skip if you want to ascend.
The truth here: you can outrun anything except yourself.

After the confrontation comes the rise. “Blackbird Ascending” is the chapter where dawn finally breaks.
G-Funk warmth holds hands with soul uplift as the soul realises it was never broken, only becoming.
This is the moment of flight, where old chains fall away, where scars transform into wings. The story shifts from darkness to elevation: from survival to transformation. This track is the triumphant breath after a long winter, the soul choosing to lift itself, clean and conscious.

Blackbird Ascending

ACROSS THE INNERVERSE

(Theme: Cosmic Realisation, Completion, Return to Source)

Here the journey expands beyond the world, beyond memory, beyond body and ego.
“Across the Innerverse” is where the soul discovers that the universe it sought outside was always within.
Cosmic G-Funk meets jazz fusion in a psychedelic revelation, drifting through the mind’s galaxies, unlocking the deeper truth: the soul is the source it was searching for. It’s the final transformation, the closing of the arc: from street-level chaos → to cosmic understanding → to eternal selfhood.
The journey ends exactly where it began, inside.
