A folk-pop hook tying together a jolly, jangly vibe full of chirruping keys – on any other occasion ‘Jane’ would serve as a jukebox jive, as cued up by the gentleman of leisure Jadell on production: here, it gets hauled back down to earth as another cautionary tale from Bronx Slang.

Featuring Douglas ‘SA’ Martinez of Nebraskan rockers 311 and instilling their usual street level snap and crackle, Beeks and Miggs tell the tale of our heroine ‘Jane’, found wandering into familiar minefields just past the wrong side of tracks and under a deceptively dark cloud of ifs, buts and maybes.
 
Bronx Slang’s sophomore album arrives in August, produced by UK connection Fake Blood and Jadell and pivoting on four divergent cuts. ‘Jane’ follows ‘Happens A Lot’, whose olde time mobster sound featured on Worldwide FM and BBC 6 Music’s Focus Beats.

Then there’s the hard-bodied ‘Just Say No’, and the cold ‘Copy That’, recommended by BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and playlisted by the piece maker himself, DJ Tony Touch, via Eminem’s Shade 45 station on SiriusXM.
 
The ‘Bronx Slang’ LP of 2019, championed by DJ Premier and described as one of the highlights of the hip-hop calendar by DJ Magazine, caught straight-no-chaser funk all up in the drama of who can draw first.

Collecting bars, hooks, scenarios and framing stars with no filter, the same formula fired last year’s ‘Bronx Kill’ mixtape, going hard for 19 tantalising minutes and with selections aired by BBC 6 Music’s Huey Morgan.

“Vinyl Comeback” is the first single from the new album “With No Delay…” by Jimmy Plates & Endevers, a classic-sounding hip hop record from the archive that is still box fresh!

South London DJ & Producer Jimmy Plates met Philadelphia hip hop collective Endevers on a record digging trip in 2002. Within a matter of hours they had recorded a single in a nearby garage and a year later Plates returned Stateside promoting the vinyl-only release of their collaboration. He recorded more tracks with the MCs which have remained unreleased until now….

Endevers are Tungsten 9, M-Dub, Shizzy Mack, Reese Wills, Ike Philthy & Asa Zimbabwe. They have been active on the Philly Hip Hop scene since 1998 and previously collaborated with Jimmy Plates on the vinyl-only single “Big Rigs” b/w “Tasty Kakes” released in 2003.

When not DJing at London’s top Hip Hop nights (The Get Down, Hip Hop Karaoke) Jimmy Plates is digging through his vinyl collection with a trusty old Akai sampler ready to catch a beat. Along with vocalist Leroy Smokes Plates is also El-Jay Burner who –– with a sound firmly rooted in South London –– combined their musical influences and background in crate-digging and soundsystem culture to create ‘My Thing’ which was released on a limited edition 7” last year.

In times when shit has never hit the fan harder, Bronx Slang return to perfect their eyewitness reports for when the world slides off its axis. Jerry Beeks and Ollie Miggs take to their box seats for today’s global cocktail of disease, violence, prejudice, greed and the players caught in the crosshairs, across 19 minutes of appetizers ripe for rewinding. 

Once again set up by two funky-assed ringers in UK producers Jadell and Fake Blood, running ill street blues plucked straight off the sidewalk (as well as the Batman theme), ‘The Bronx Kill’ is a mixtape –“or consider it a long single” - to let people know “we right there on the frontlines with ‘em, for real”. With no time to waste, their name-checking and militant-casual NYC delivery instantly refuels the fire from last year’s self-titled debut album.  
 
Informed by the Golden Age while the keep-it-realism took care of itself, 2019's ‘Bronx Slang’ LP realised the pair's reverence for Grandmaster Caz and LL Cool J’s ‘I Need a Beat’. The match of undiluted funk fiending for the thrill of the chase, and bars, hooks, scenarios and stars ripe for knocking down a peg, found fans in DJ Premier, Huw Stephens and Huey Morgan. Described as one of the highlights of the hip-hop calendar by DJ Magazine, the full-length follow-up arrives some time in 2021.

Ready to rattle your radio with a moshpit-ready hook atop the chassis of J-S-T-A-R-S’ ‘Blu Genes’, Jerry Beeks and Miggs’ are hard targets articulating how to live in 2020. Ravenous on the mic, a dash of their trademark namedrops end up empathising “when the easy way out is getting harder to take”. Bronx Slang, over and out.

"Joy & Pain" is the lead single from Nine Clouds, Myka's forthcoming collaboration album with producer Profound, who tragically passed away just after the album's completion.
