Sublime Frequencies is thrilled to present a second volume of classic tracks from Algeria's popular music history. Where volume 1 focused on the early to mid-1970s Rai scene in western Algeria, this album features a variety of pop and folk styles from that same period. From the heavier rock and psychedelic sounds of Rachid & Fethi, Les Djinns and Les Abranis, to the haunting folk music of Kri Kri and Djamel Allem and the film soundtrack moods of Ahmed Malek, 1970s Algerian Folk & Pop documents a key period in the modern musical renaissance of a nation in transition. Most of these tracks are from 45 rpm singles, the key format during the early 1970s before the cassette took over as the medium of choice. Western musical influences can be heard throughout this extremely diverse record, yet there is an undeniable Algerian sense of sadness contained here within a more tolerant space in time between two of the country's most significant historical periods; National Independence from France and the darker times of a brutal civil war yet to come. Compiled by Hicham Chadly, this limited edition LP comes in a full-color gatefold jacket with lovely images from the period and extensive liner-notes by Omar Zelig, Algeria's most legendary radio DJ.

Disco Dildar features rare plugged-in proxy pop from some of the country’s lesser-known teen flicks spanning the late 1970s and 80s featuring drum heavy disco guesstimates built around multilingual lyrics celebrating Saturday nights, Disco Dildars and Hindustani Hogmanays.

These original synth-dripped 45 EPs are not from the front of the pile, nor the quirky result of some token musical tourism. The music found here once soundtracked rebellious all-nighters and hotel bar rendezvous from films of which your parents might have not approved hence their scarce obtainability. Again the Sounds Of Wonder team who bought you Thai Dai, Life Is Dance, Ilectro, Bollywood Bloodbath and others share equal doses of the excitement, wonderment and bewilderment that comes when first needle-dropping these elusive gems.

Featuring the cut and paste, electronics and fuzz tones of flightless super heroes such as Tafo, Ashraf, Rana and Ahmed, whilst voiced by Mehnaz, Runa Laila and Queen Noor Jehan, it is plain to hear why the work of these DIY cosmic composers have eclipsed the collectable desirability of filmic fruits igniting dance floors and providing sample fodder of the wider continent for Wu-Tangular producers in their stride. This workshop funk redefines both DIY and disco revealing a whole new side to world music and marks Pakistani pop cultures transformation from disposable and indefinable to indispensable. A secretly famous gang of predatory, cannibalistic truck drivers with the smell of hot death constantly oozing from the pilonidal cysts permanently and spectacularly infected at the top of their fabulously hairy ass cracks, the Face-Eaters of Hong Kong (no actual affiliation with Hong Kong) have come together to create a soothing electronic soundtrack for the face-eaters of every conceivable walk of life. To the toddler face-eaters of Indochina to the homemaker face-eaters of west-east Tapioca, Florida to the gentle vegetarian face-eaters of Djibouti, the F.E.H.K. aims to please one and all with the disgruntled yet blissful beeps and hoots of modern generic techno pop. Like muzak in the American workplace of the 1970s, the music of the F.E.H.K. is designed to increase the efficiency of face-eaters by a guaranteed 5-25%. Face-eaters will immediately chew with greater accuracy, precision, and aptitude. Teeth will seem to sever the infamously husky jowls of fellow humans and apes with the exactness and ease of hydro-lasers, reducing the mastication time by large and undeniable margins.  Of course, due to the demanding nature of the 18-wheeler-driving-and-face-eating lifestyle, music created with these scientifically sound specifications shall be created and shared with a restrained and haphazard frequency.
