Making his Rebellion debut with an electric three track release is Italian Taster Peter. For the lovers of all things modular, the latest EP on the Crosstown Rebels off-shoot is nothing short of a techno dream.
 
Talking about ‘LFO Shit’ and ‘Run All Night’, Peter had the goal to “smash some LFOs into my music, because I've always been in love with that type of modular sounds. I wanted to create two different tracks but with similar elements, trying to compare the modern and the vintage. ‘LFO Shit’ is a strictly modern track, with a LFO solo in it. ‘Run All Night’ features a pushing groove from the late ’70s, combined with LFO sounds and big alarms typical of the old school techno music”. Concluding the EP and taking the listener in a different direction is ‘Autunna’ which Peter created for that moment when all you can do is close your eyes, and disappear into the darkness of the night.
 
From an early age Taster Peter immersed himself in music and learnt to play the violin, double bass, guitar, drums and percussions. The former drummer of the band Tasters he was able to tour the world and release two albums, whilst learning how to create a memorable performance. His musical journey has led him to producing electronic music with releases on Truesoul, Trapez, Highgrade and Tronic among others, and more recently starting his own label Extravaganza.

Despite originally hailing from New York, Serge Devant has recently locked in close ties with one of London's own key music outposts Crosstown Rebels, falling in with the iconic warm and deep house aesthetic Damien Lazarus's iconic imprint when he made his first release this year with his Always On My Mind EP. The release was part of something of a comeback for the producer after being forced to take a year out from music in recovery following a devastating snow boarding accident. This became a time of reflection and development of his sound where he began working under groove informed direction, which also has been snapped up by Lee Foss and Jamie Jones' Emerald City music and Crosstown sub label Rebellion and is clearly already proving to be a positive upturn in his career.

More releases can be expected from Devant on Crosstown later this year, plus he's heading to EC1 for the first time this Saturday night. So, to properly demonstrate this fresh direction and what can be expected from his debut, he's put together this exclusive promo mix...

Crosstown Rebels assemble an A-star team of pioneers and legends for the next mammoth release on the label. ‘Touch Your Body’ comes courtesy of Felix Da Housecat, Jamie Principle and Vince Lawrence aka The 312 with sublime remixes from Moodymann.

Felix Da Housecat explains how “growing up on south side of Chicago I was a huge fan of Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle. Vince Lawrence was over at Chicago Trax and was the blueprint A&R and catalyst there signing anything hot. By this time I was around 14 and I had just made my first record ‘Fantasy Girl’, with DJ PIERRE. Over the years I was becoming obsessed with Jamie’s sound. We soon became friends and always discussed working together and it took 15 years. Frankie’s passing woke me up. I felt I wanted to do something special and it was time to fly back to Chicago to my roots. I wanted to go back where it all began and work with the originators. I called Vince and said I need your mind, guidance and your studio and all of us in one room to bring that spirit back in my soul. I told him we had Jamie Principle and the rest I guess is history. I wanted Crosstown for the project as I felt Damian was the only guy worthy and would understand and treat this project right. House Music needs this right now.. So here we are.”

Felix Da Housecat’s career spans more than thirty years with two Grammy nominations. Never failing to impress, he now brings us his latest venture as producer of The 312 project. Jamie Principle is one of the most recognisable voices in the history of house music, featuring on some of the first house records ever made including the seminal ‘Your Love’ with Frankie Knuckles. Business man, producer and Trax Records organizer Vince Lawrence is another true Chicago house music innovator, responsible for the pivotal house track ‘On & On’ with Jesse Saunders and the ‘Virgo Tracks’ releases. Mahogani Music founder Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann grew up in Detroit with his first several releases appearing on Carl Craig’s Planet E imprint. 2016 saw him next in the series to mix the respected ‘DJ-Kicks’ with outstanding results.

Dinky has come forward with “Casa”, the first single from her forthcoming album due out this autumn on Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels label. The tracks were recorded whilst she was resting at home, pregnant with her second son. Due to a medical risk, Dinky was forced to stay in bed and decided to keep herself busy by writing music.

Whilst the original features summery, almost blissful vocal hooks interspersed with acid bass gurgles, Satori’s remix takes thing down an altogether more turbulent route. Initially ambient and spaced out, it then morphs into a driving techno track, combined with reverberating pads and choral wails.

First Play: Dinky - Casa (Satori Remix) [Crosstown Rebels]

Following in suit of the Rebellion ethos, Nesta & Silky Raven transport us to new worldly regions. This time Lebanon is explored through six immersive soundscapes in their ‘Cedar Trees EP’.

The trio explain they were "inspired by the melodies of old Lebanese songs. Samples from famous singers Wadih El Safi and Sabah from Beirut tell of Lebanon’s heavenly beauty. We accompanied them with rhythmic modular noises, big string arrangements and lots of psychedelic guitar solos.”

Nabih Esta aka Nesta is one of the most forward thinking heads in Beirut’s electronic music scene and part of the legendary Überhaus and The Gärten family. He met Jakob Seidensticker and Henrik Raabe aka Silky Raven, also well known as part of Wareika, in Barcelona and invited them for a gig in Beirut in 2015. There Jakob and Henrik were introduced to and fell in love with the soulful and oriental sounds of Fairuz and Ziad El Rahbani, as Nabih drove them around the beautiful mountains surrounding the city.

The trio realised how well the traditional and modern electronic music matched and so began their musical collaboration. As they experimented with the sound, Nabih suggested they use his grandfather’s best friend’s music, who was the oriental music legend, Wadih El Safi. With the blessing from Safi’s family, the trio sampled his voice and from that, the ‘Cedar Trees EP’ was born.

Faded.  grown up exploring and reasearching new shapes in music like IDM, Glitch Hop & Click-House.
He began dj'ing at the start of 2006 when minimal was at his sunset and tech house was the queen of club's.
In a city oppressed by a stagnant and old musical style, Faded helped battle to change the old rules and break old habits, breathing fresh life into a dispirited club scene.
Armed with his noisy Laptop, still dressed in his dark clothes, he entered the clubs to share his biggest passion, dj'ing the best underground music.
Faded continued to fight the cause and helped found a number of new, vanguard venues, bringing new sounds and styles.
