“Veli Hoca” is my bow to Veli Zayim, my first teacher in life. You showed us the difference between learning, teaching, and upbringing. Strict yet kind, brave and fair — always there. Your stance still shapes me. You lived across the street; I grew up under your watch. Some lessons hurt and were normal back then, but I learned this: discipline without hardness of heart is character. My mother used to say a Turkish proverb to you: “Eti senin, kemiği benim” — literally “the flesh is yours, the bones are mine,” meaning: I trust you with my child’s upbringing. You wanted more than knowledge — you wanted us to build character: stoic, honest, steadfast. This piece carries your strictness, your courage, and your will to push us forward. Rest in peace, Hocam. I will carry your philosophy on. Thank you, my ground-former.
