On the latest episode of The FADER Uncovered, host Mark Ronson is joined by hook lord Ty Dolla $ign. Together they revisit Ty’s 2014 FADER cover, written off the back of his cult Beach House mixtapes and before he dropped debut album Free TC. Since that cover story Ty has established himself as an integral part to many great hip-hop or R&B tracks, lending his distinctive vocals to songs by Kanye West, Post Malone, and Megan Thee Stallion to name just a few. Ty casts his mind back to his early days hustling in New York before returning to his native LA and finding his musical crowd, including producer DJ Mustard and rapper YG. They discuss old school R&B and house influences, the keys to a successful collaboration, and touring with Justin Timberlake, as well as sharing stories about how nervous meeting Stevie Wonder made them both feel.

His mix for Solid Steel shows another side to his musical tastes with a beautiful set taking in music from the likes of Jon Hopkins, Nils Frahm, Floating Points, Steve Reich, Radiohead and Bonobo , plus some of his own productions. He told us;

We asked some of the artists we love who we believe are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of electronic music to make their own renditions of the Ripples album by Alejandro Bento. They chose the tune they most resonated with and created very unique pieces honoring the piano yet bringing forth their own distinct sound. They were given full creative freedom in what direction they wanted to take their remix, and what they sent us was very unique and surprising, as expected by these gendre-blurring, boundary-pushing artists. We have collaborations from Memotone, Christopher Willits, Souns, LCC - Las Casicasiotone, Leeward and Axel Toben - this last one being a rendition by Alejandro Bento himself under his electronic music alias. We really like it, hope you do too.
