Returning to the Podcast for yet another round of Mach 4 techno comes Mala Junta head honcho DJ Tool, a live recording from his clubnight’s Bassiani takeover back in March. The Danish-born, German-based selector and former Fast Forward collaborator is every bit the sound and feel of Copenhagen, the gritty, trance-focused beats that have found a home in the Danish city run through his work like liquid mercury and now have Berlin in their grasp. And for one special night earlier this year, alongside D.Dan and Yazzus, Tbilisi too came under his fevered spell. With a manifest focus on inclusivity, support, friendship, and community, his signature sound is faster than a speeding bullet, one that whips up every ounce of a crowd’s energy and leaves behind the type of excited chatter you hear at the cloakroom at the end of the very best nights. It’s a techno that cuts right through and connects with people in the most visceral way, releasing pent up spirits through ferocious tempos and whirling bass. For the 132nd entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome DC's @joann_fabrixx! Joann Fabrixx is a co-founder and resident of Flower Factory, a DC-based queer DJ collective and party series. Having DJed in various spots around the East Coast since 2017, Joann is grateful and excited to collab with Honcho. This mix starts out trippy and clubby, eases down into proggy house and techno, and then picks back up with trance and hardgroove. A crunchy outer shell with a gooey center. Listen to it when you need energy and elevation.

This mix is dedicated to the memory of Bryan Smith, who taught me how to make a mind-bending party happen with whatever glue and string were lying around. Bryan was a cultural and spiritual force in DC, and he will be missed forever. Tell your friends you love them.

The Sustain-Release co-founder steps up to the Phonica mix just ahead of the acclaimed festival’s 11th year. 
New York has an iconic history when it comes to club music, and over the years has seen many great names emerge from its underground scene. In modern times, Aurora Halal is undoubtedly one of those names. 
Aurora has become a staple at forward-thinking institutions like Berghain, De School, and her home base, Nowadays, where she holds a residency. Alongside her international touring, she’s carved out her own vital space through the long-running Mutual Dreaming parties and Sustain-Release, the DIY-rooted festival she co-founded, which continues to push boundaries as it enters its second decade.
Her Phonica mix offers a vivid snapshot of her deep, intuitive approach to DJing—captured live at Mansions, a cozy NYC wine bar turned house party haven. Known for her genre-fluid sets that blend hypnotic techno, house, acid and experimental textures this is the perfect calling card to showcase why she can hold it down with a range of greats like DJ Nobu, Vladimir Ivkovic and more.
We had a chat about the mix with Aurora as well as touching off Sustain and some of her favorite moments at the festival.

There’s an indescribable thrill that comes from giving a platform to the ones you love; to hear them tell their tale to the room before seeing them soar. It’s been our ethos since the very first edition of UNFOLD and is something we continue to channel. 

So naturally it was an honour to invite I. Jordan back to close our 99th edition and bring us up to a century of editions.

“It’s no secret that UNFOLD is my favourite place to play, nothing beats the joy felt in that room doing a closing set. FOLD has not only become a second home to me (it’s also where my studio is, so I’m here all week as well as the weekends), but it’s also shaped me as a DJ and artist, playing all of these UNFOLD events has definitely made me a better DJ.

I didn’t plan any of this set but it’s definitely one of my faves, so I wanted to share for everyone to enjoy as it’s been keeping me good company on my runs the last couple of months.
