A double EP extravaganza that has finally found its way onto vinyl, in one neat and perfectly formed package. Courtesy of mindcolormusic

The two EPs were made at around the same time but channel different energies. Tears can be considered moody and introspective, it was written during a time of intense personal tragedy and sounds like it.
At the time I couldn't keep up with what was happening in the present so I went back to old post punk and new wave records, finding comfort and inspiration in their humanity. My intention for the Tears EP was to take the uncertain and anxious energy I felt in those records and make something that I felt would continue that tradition and make something that had genuine emotion.

Heartbreak beats (previously released as 'Raw breakbeat tracks 2019 -2020') was pure catharsis. All of the tracks were written at lightning pace with the speakers turned up way too loud (sorry neighbours!)
Although the emotions of the time bleed in to the works these tracks are exercises in pure focussed energy. Hopefully this translates to the listener.
I have removed two tracks which I thought slowed the EP down so it's even more streamlined and dynamic.

I hope you enjoy. This is a personal record and it means a lot when people take the time to get to know these songs.

A live improv recorded during initial controlled wakeup during major repairs to a super rare 1978 PPG Wave Computer 360A vintage digital synth at Hideaway Studio.

As well as battling with an instrument that wasn't playing quite as it should on the day (it was during major repairs after all) I was suffering from a fever when I recorded this - the result is quite a bizarre recording and somewhat reflective of how I felt at the time.  As the name suggests it slowly pulls itself together as it goes on and I'm actually quite glad I found the strength to record this on the day as I think its resulted in capturing something a little more unusual and broken in the process.

1978 PPG Wave Computer 360A: Picking Up The Pieces

Coarse droning journeys convey a feeling of obscured identity in a modern landscape with a sense of true beauty at its core...

Meshing an appreciation for cold industrial atmospheres witnessed during time spent in Peoria and Shenzhen with the elevating characteristics of shoegaze and post-rock, Kagami Smile’s release roots out the rewarding and endearing qualities of dark electronic music.

A sense of self veiled by disassociation seems to revolve as the very central point of Obscured Face. Tragic euphoria is bruised and cracked by gauzes of dissonance and depreciation. Any semblance of purity is clouded and co-opted by a staggering visceral texture. Human emotion becomes aged and refracted through reference and replication. But the majesty of the sounds themselves seem to nod towards a small spark of hopefulness, as if the listener were walking towards the most minuscule of lights in a blistering, midnight snowstorm.

A cold and disassociated ambient experience that is not without tinges of light and moments of warmth. Kagami Smile delivers a standout release for his label debut, filled with moments of tremendous power and poignancy.

Hash is minced meat, and refers to the minced textures glued together and is a bit of a parody of the 'acid' genre ;)

This track is composed almost entirely from standalone (one-off) samples from a eurorack & moog. Got to play with one about 2 months ago, recorded a loooot (about 8 hours) of sounds. 

also recorded a lot from a moog. I only used midi from a certain scale, and got a ton of samples in many different notes in the scale. A few hours of this. With different patches dialed in.

After I did this (during two separate weekends so it took a while) I went ahead and combined them in this little composition. The goal was to make something interesting from one-shots as opposed to neatly putting down midi and working on it normally. Instead I opted to make the sounds, and then try to make a coherent composition out of them.

This is the result.

Oh yeah, also a few synthesized drum samples from a minipops. The pops in a minipops sound amazing!
