‘Mixtape_01’ is the debut drop from Vienna-based ssolve, and a low key hit of the reset button on a range of electronic musics. Reconstituting strewn sounds from club nights and noise gigs, ssolve’s fresh sound takes in liberated dark beats from gqom, kaleidoscopic neoperro, along with guttural industrial throbs (and screams). ssolve moulds these pieces into a fresh little world of heady glocalised bass, beats, and bombast. Behind the mixtape’s sounds lie years of experience ghost-writing, producing, and sound-designing for a range of projects.

Finally let loose, unconstrained, ssolve’s tentacles blossom across cinematic granules of thudding light on ‘Ultra Forever’, sculpt an intimate ambient prayer on ‘Waves’, or slice samples into visceral dancefloor-ready riddims on ‘RYTM F’, ‘RYTM C’, and ‘RYTM D’.

Born in Germany, ‘89 to a Namibian/German Household, ssolve has lived in Vienna for over a decade. ‘mixtape_01’ was co-created with Enesi M., Ragnheiður Erla Björnsdóttir, and Ernst Lima.

Max Dahlhaus and Kronom team up for Unizone on “Trauma Tendrils” with remixes from Domizako and Ice_Eyes. “Trauma Tendrils” lands with all the diplomacy of blunt force trauma. Both veteran producers trawl the deepest and darkest recesses of their personal brands of dystopia, settling on a chaotic course of textured experimentalism and distorted broken rhythms. It’s industrial techno that has dissected and reorganized its molecular structure. Tracks that simulate the experience of emerging from the primordial cyber cocoon. Caked in dirt, drenched in acid, mouth full of gristle. All that’s left to do is tear the feeding tubes out of your stomach, punch a hole through the membrane of your prison, and rush the sentinels. What’s the worst that could happen?

KRONOM & MAX DAHLHAUS - TENDRILS

The new label of the web-magazine and collective Swine Daily - Swine Records - is releasing a split EP with the Mexican label Fayuca Retumba, a project by Yourte Bugarach.

After an interview with the Mexican producer for the Slovak web magazine, the conversation gradually gave rise to a spontaneous idea for a musical project. The Slovak artists had a clear assignment; the only inspiration was the mythological creature called "Turoň" from Slovak (particularly around Čičmany village), as well as Czech and Polish legends. Mexican artists, on the other hand, attempted to set the Aztec mythological creature "Ahuizotl" to music.

Turoň ➜ also called turôň, or chriapa, is a carnival mask that was known not only in Slovakia, but also in Poland and the Czech Republic. Its name is derived from the tur, an animal similar to an ox, which became extinct in Slovakia in the 17th century, and in the magical ideas of our ancestors, symbolized strength and fertility.

Ahuizotl ➜ was a water monster in Aztec mythology. It was described as a dog with monkey-like limbs, pointed ears, and a third hand at the end of its long tail. It lured its victims by imitating the cries of a child along the banks of rivers, then caught them with its third hand. The ancient Mexicans considered it an emissary of Tlaloc, the rain god who resided in the depths of rivers. Its function was to catch people by the hand on their tails, drown them, and send them to the god's house as his servants. In Nahuatl, a(tl) means "water" and huiz(tli) means "thorn". This name was taken by the warlike and fierce Aztec emperor Ahuítzotl, the eighth tlatoani of Tenochtitlan, who ruled from 1486 to 1502.
