My third album "Fireflies and Bats (Or a Predictable Series of Waltzes)“ came about in January 2021 and was recorded in three days in the attic of my kitchen. With just one microphone and a guitar I was able to catch a pure and intimate sound, that shows the songs in their rawness and fragility, just as if they were written up there.

The album mostly deals with personal topics: separation, the sudden death wish of a 27 year old, the relationship between granddaughter and grandmother, daughter, mother and father, and the turn towards spirituality but also the despair about political developments.

As before with „The Talk“ in 2020, I will self-release this album without any label and will go without Spotify (except for the single) and share my music on the independent alternatives Bandcamp and SoundCloud, platforms that have a fair payment system and allow a closer relationship between artists and listeners.

Finally! It seems like I've found the right path and I'm highly motivated and proud to announce that soon I am going to release my first album Φ (phi) on bandcamp!

In this three-parted album I try to create a framework which can harbour my latest songs as well as the ones that came up when I was thirteen.
Each of the three chapters of Φ stand for a certain time in my life. 

It's extremely exciting to work on this Album. It's like flipping through the pages of an old diary.

Faira is the folk-experimental project of singer, songwriter and guitarist Sophia Spies (DE). In her melancholy songs, Spies reflects dreamlike and situational encounters with herself and the world, which she continues to symbolically weave through associative relationships. Through her understanding of songwriting, she creates a powerful imagery that finds its expression
through classical and playful arrangements on the guitar in combination with experimental lo-fi elements. Inspired by artists like Joanna Newsom, Leonard Cohen, Coco Rosie & Sufjan Stevens, Faira draws her very own, intimate version of folk. Her songs seem familiar and yet reassembled. The impulsive voice of the 29-year-old cologne based musician sounds remarkably somber and vulnerable at the same time.

In April 2020 Faira released her Album „The Talk“ together with her sister Nathalie Litzner (vocals, violin), Andrew Collberg (drums) and her brother Leonhard Spies (guitar, bass guitar). 
Only one year later, in May 2021 she is releasing her third album „Fireflies and Bats (Or a Predictable Series of Waltzes)“. In comparison to that last Indie-Folk production, this year’s album is reduced to Faira’s voice and guitar-playing only. That way it shows the musician from her most frail yet most powerful side.

Dieses ist im Vergleich zur letzten ungewöhnlichen Indie-Folk-Produktion, reduziert auf Fairas Stimme und Gitarrenspiel und zeigt die Musikerin dadurch von ihrer verletztlichsten und gleichsam stärksten Seite.
