Here's my remix of The Chainsmokers - Wake up Alone (feat. Jhene Aiko). I've been sitting on this one for a while - stoked to finally release it for you guys! Fun fact, I was in the midst of finishing this remix before EDC this year and my computer randomly decided to crash. I ran an malware scan for 2 days, removed ~30 corrupt files, got the thing working again and finished the remix just before I left the hotel room for my set. Enjoy! :)

A remix I did for the very talented Ambar Lucid. Funny story, I actually came up with the main concept for this remix while I was incredibly sleep deprived at the Austin, Texas airport sometime around 4 in the morning. When I woke up the next day, I still liked the way it sounded, and this was the final result! Enjoy :)

Uncover You is, as the song title suggests, is the birth of a new chapter for Fairlane; this first single marks the unveiling of a unique side of the project that hasn’t yet been presented to the public. Having the chance to work alongside singer/ songwriter Ilsey was a unique opportunity that opened my mind to a different perspective/ approach to production and composition. The topline struck a particular chord, one which invoked a feeling I’d felt had been missing from my typical creative approach, and allowed me to experiment with a direction I’d always wanted to take the project. Through the use of acoustic instrumentation, mainly acoustic and electric guitars, and soft synth design, I was able to create a soundscape that matched the emotion behind Ilsey’s writing, and finished with a song that I’m very proud of.

Fairlane - Uncover You (ft. Ilsey)

As soon as I received the topline from Nevve I knew exactly where I wanted to take this project; to this day, Wildfire remains one of the most seamless production experiences I’ve had with a vocalist. The lyrics in this single have always resonated with me, and will forever bring back a particular feeling I’d been dwelling on at the time that the song was created. Reminiscent of past experiences, the words remind of a time when I could escape the world with someone I love, dismiss the stress of day to day life, and simply exist in the moment. With this in mind, the emotional aspects of my production were able to come through, invoking a feeling of sadness, anger, and frustration, but with a hint of hope that someday I’d be able to experience this once again.

Fairlane - Wildfire (ft. Nevve)

Puzzle came to me at an interesting time in my life - having just come out of a long term relationship, Claire’s writing easily came to life as it touched on the issues of letting go and fighting through something that may be dysfunctional or broken. When it comes to the narrative behind the song, I feel that the lyrics capture just that: this confused 21st century mindset that it’s better to struggle through a damaging relationship than it is to accept being alone. 
I wanted the production around Claire’s vocal to reflect this powerful, yet inconsistent emotional dynamic I’d once experienced myself. Puzzle is also a first step in a new direction for the Fairlane project, experimenting with a more pop-like structure while simultaneously delivering the familiar electronic sound I’ve conveyed in the past. This is a project I’m very proud of, and is easily one of my most creative records in terms of instrumentation and sound design. I can’t express how excited I am to share this one with you guys! ♥️

It was almost a year ago from today that Trove and I were sitting in the studio together jamming out to a random piano loop. We were both in a strange mood so I suggested we make something cryptic. “Let’s write a song about trying to comfort someone who’s experienced a death, but in a way that depicts the powerlessness you often experience when you’ve run out of the right words to say.” With that we both got to work, and Crumble was born. The concept of the song is just that: often times you’ll encounter experiences in life that can’t be fixed via simple conversation. Sometimes what you really need is somebody to lean on for a while, allowing you to crumble into them. This is a song about supporting those who are close to you when they need you most. So be kind, and be there for one another ❤️

Fairlane & Zack Gray - What You Promised

It was a casual Saturday afternoon at a friends place; A random Spotify playlist had assumed the roll as the DJ for the night, which eventually cued up the Jose Gonzalez cover of “Heartbeats” (a song originally performed by the Knife). I couldn’t remember the last time I’d heard the song but was immediately consumed by feelings of nostalgia, as memories from my freshmen year in university hijacked my imagination. I found myself re-listening to the song over and over again, until coming to the (what should have been obvious) conclusion to create my own cover.

I laid down the acoustic guitars, along with some simple drums - just enough to get a general idea of how this was going to play out for me. A good friend of mine (who performs under the name Lani Rose) was available to track some demo vocals; what he sent back blew me away. 

I didn’t want the cover to be too similar to the Jose rendition, so I was sure to add a taste of Fairlane throughout the record. After wrapping up the first final version, I had the pleasure of previewing what Lani and I had done to another close friend (who’d admitted to sharing a similar obsession with the Jose cover in the past). As the demo ended, I turned around in my chair to gauge any reaction, only to discover my friend sitting in silence with his mouth agape. “That was special” he said “and that’s all I’m gonna say”.

This Heartbeats cover will always hold a place in my heart. To me, it represents an acknowledgment to the time my journey has taken to get to where I am - from the last time I heard the original 8 years ago, to the first time I heard it again on that random Saturday evening, and everything else in between.

I teamed up and wrote this song with Nevve a little while back while I was in a dark place in life. I had recently undergone a falling out and was feeling a sense of anger and abandonment - I felt like the instrumentation and writing does a perfect job of capturing this feeling. Also making something more bass heavy and aggressive was a lot of fun haha
