it was a time of real money struggles. i prioritized my goals and dreams over a normal job and paying bills but tbh its the best choice ive ever made cuz now i get to do what i love because of that investment i made. 

so at the time (some yrs ago) it was such a life changing decision for me i wanted to write something uplifting and hopeful so i laid down some piano chords and came up with this idea.
its short but to me it means a lot.

just with most of my unfinished song ideas on the piano they were written with an uplifting production in mind. cause i wanted them to feel hopeful. so at some point after writing a couple piano vocal demos i felt frustrated cause i could already hear some drums and guitars for a production but didnt really know how to produce cause i was so focused on melodies and lyrics.
but i had enough of it so i decided to put together a rough production myself so i wont forget the vibe i had in mind once i would bring it to a producer to help me finish it.

this song was - i guess - around the very last bits and breaths of a relationship i was in that i wasnt able to manage anymore. again i prioritized my goals and dreams over other things that also matters to me.

it was a time when Afrojack has just signed me and i felt like i had to live up to the position and opportunities he gave me.
i felt i had to prove myself by just crushing it in the studio and go hard and get the best out of myself and this unique opportunity.
which meant i couldnt see her as mushch as i wanted to.
instead i choose to lock myself in the studio and follow my dreams.

and with this song i wrote a scenario where i was hoping that she would still stay with me even with all of the things that was happening around me and my dreams but it didnt work out. but im good now and she is good too so no bad blood. i respect everyones choices cause i believe we always have good reasons and intentions hiding somewhere in our thoughts and choices even though they dont always shine thru. were just not always good at speaking them out in the heat of a moment. it takes some time to digest and reflect to really see the good intentions coming out. but its always there. unless were evil. but i dont really think so.

cover art: throwback to my apollo theater performance in new york

the reason why i moved from a city in holland called rotterdam (an hour south from amsterdam) to los angeles stems back from a time when i first got a real glimpse of america which was my performance at the apollo theater in new york. i remember being in this big city of dreams for the very first time. all by myself. staying at this cheap hostel in harlem on 125st street and lenox avenue. ever since that time ive always wanted to make it in america. and now i got to be in los angeles to pursue my dreams.
