Taking to the decks in Concourse midway through the recent Hacienda Depot Mayfield event, Greg Wilson again deftly delivers a finely refined set as has come to be expected from one of dance music’s early UK originators and pioneers.

Bringing together his own edits and tapes to defining, classic tracks, Greg opens with a special tribute in his re-versioning of  808 State’s “Pacific State “ and follows with seminal cuts including Don Carlos “Alone”, Graeme Park’s “Back To Love” remix and the very first mix of TC1991 “Berry” which took the club scene by storm on initial import release.

A live version of Orbital’s “Chime “opens up the back end of the set which sees an airing of the long forgotten Frankie Bones’ and Lenny Dee's electro fused “Just As Long As I Got You”, with Greg also pulling out his mixes of Adonis “No Way Back”, Electronic’s “Getting Away With It” and Black Box’s “Everybody” for the Hacienda faithful at the November event.

back to basics 30 - just when I thought I was out...

Great to get my first gig of 2022 under my belt last Saturday at Ministry Of Sound. I’ve played at this legendary club a number of times down the years, but this certainly ranked amongst my favourite appearances.

In light of my Essential Mix being chosen for BBC Radio 1's classic series earlier in the month, I decided to kick off the year with a selection of some of the tracks included, a few of which are different edits/mixes to those featured back in 2009 when the mix first aired.

Is no stranger to challenging the status quo of what house music can be. The duo is known for contemporarily remixing the ingredients of classic house into future proof compositions.
In an old house flanking one of the canals of Amsterdam is a cozy home studio, with enough floor space for a couple of chairs and a side table. Stretched around the walls are computers, cables, synths, drum machines and vinyl records. It’s in this attic that Makèz, the duo of Kees van ’t Klooster and Jan-Willem Mulder, convene to explore the world of electronic music. The form of art that ties them to one another, as well as the world around them.

Seamus Haji’s experience is all part of the mix. He has been involved in nearly all aspects of the Music Business from working in London’s most influential dance music record shops for 10 years to A&R’ing for Slip’n’Slide Records, Defected Records and Strictly Rhythm to interviewing and reviewing for seminal Dance Music publications such as Muzik Magazine, DMC Update, DJ Mag, Touch and Echoes and of course, de rigueur stints on pirate radio Girls FM being the main on in the 90’s. Since 2002 he has also been at the helm of his own much-respected house music label, Big Love (also including sister imprints Big Love Trax and Soul Love) for which he has either A&R’d, produced, remixed (or all three) nearly 400 hundred singles and mixed over 20 compilations. The man's knowledge knows no bounds, and he exemplifies that here for us in the mix.
