Lou Reed  - Walk On The Wild Side (John Monkman Tribute edit)

Here's a tribute I made on Sunday for a great man, the one and only Lou Reed. He's was one of my all time musical hero's. It's a sad time when a person leaves us and moves on to the next life. His music was and always will be a source of inspiration and joy to me and others. One thing is for certain, even though he's left us, his music never will.

R.I.P big guy.

Volume 2 continues where it predecessor left off, covering the club friendly end of the Wah Wah back catalogue, from early deep house offerings from Aaron Jerome (the man behind the Sbtrkt mask) and blue eyed disco from Talc’s night club dwelling alter egoes Man / Boy featuring Girl, to more recent outings from Lea Lea, Paper Tiger and Scrimshire. Add to that previously unreleased, and exclusive to this compilation, remixes from The Reflex and Noisses, as well as other homegrown greats such as Stubborn Heart and Debian Blak, not to mention Japanese dons Goth-Trad and Anchorsong, and you’ve got one serious second volume of dance music from the Wah Wah vaults.

Lauv - Paris In The Rain (HMLT Edit)

Written by Jacques Higelin & Brigitte Fontaine, "La Grippe" was recorded in 1965. It was produced by legendary 40's/50's/60's talent scout Jacques Canetti, as part of a longer collection of songs, "12 chansons d'avant le déluge", which I highly recommend.

Founder of "Les 3 Baudets" club in Paris in the late 40s, Canetti auditionned Jacques Higelin for the first time in 1955. Only 15-year-old at the time,  young Higelin impressed him, but was too young for Canetti to promote...yet. 
Canetti told Higelin' parents that day that Jacques will probably hear from him again...when he turns 25. And kept his word, by producing this first record in Higelin long career!

To me, this wonderful little song sounds like an early echo of the bossa/jazz wave that hit in France in the late 60's/early 70's. Higelin actually subsequently worked a lot with the Saravah Records label, created by the man who introduced Brazilian sounds in France, Pierre Barough. 

Here is my samba/bossa Dj-friendly revisit of this song, as a humble tribute to Higelin's talent and legacy.
