Unrecognized Greatness

Growing up in a lower class family isn’t the easiest thing to do for anybody. Now add to the fact a mother who was only 14 when she gave birth and a dad who ran out before he even saw his sons face. Picture that mother trying her best to raise her son while going to school, not to mention raising a milatto child in a place such as Cheboygan where the racial make up of the city is over 90% white. Now if I told you a young man would come out of that and become successful at writing, recording and performing Hip-Hop music, what would your reaction be? I’d doubt it to. At first glance, Tim Parrott, Better known by his stage name Falah seems like the average MC with hopes of being “the next big thing.” However, what the eye doesn’t see is EVERYTHING that his music will tell you. 
The 20-year-old rhyme slinger from Cheboygan, MI began writing rhymes at the influential age of 14 under the name “Merchandice.” His early rhymes were a far cry from anything that he had ever experienced in his life. Such as drugs, guns and gangs, but with artists like 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and Eminem as his earliest influences it’s easy to see where the young rapper got those ideas. By the end of the 8th grade school year, through cyphers and rapping for friends, his peers began to take notice of the MC’s talents.
Over the summer and into his early high school career, Falah along with a couple fellow local artists recorded many songs together, burning most of them on CD’s for the rest of the school to hear. The results were astounding and by the end of his Junior year, people started to take Falah as a serious threat. In an attempt to further his career and take the next step, Falah signed up for the school talent his senior year and performed Drakes “Show Me A Good Time.” The questions soon started to be asked, “Why doesn’t Falah have his own mixtape.” The day after his high school graduation, the question was answered with “Carpe Diem” Falah’s very first offering as a solo artist. To no surprise, fans were pleasantly impressed with the 7 song EP. 
Roughly 3 months after the release Falah took it upon himself to reach out to independent labels in hopes of bigger, better opportunity such as shows and stronger promotion, he didn’t have to look far. A phone call was made to Nate Ritch A.K.A Halusin8 who has been running his label, Ill Vision Records since 2006. The 2 set up a meeting and a couple weeks later, Falah had his first official show booked at Papa Lou’s in Petoskey, MI. 
Fast forward about a year and Falah is officially the newest member of the Ill Vision family. Since signing he has released his sophomore mixtape and second installment in the Carpe Diem series entitled “Carpe Diem 2” as well as guest verses for label mates Shai and Halusin8. Currently he is hard at work writing and recording new material for his yet to be titled 3rd mixtape. It’s safe to say the Carpe Diem MC is doing exactly as his mantra suggests, Seizing the day. 
What does Carpe Diem mean to you? No need to grab the dictionary, English translation says it means “Seize The Day” but how do YOU define it? To rapper Falah, it simply means making the most out of every 24 hours we are granted on this earth, regardless of your walk of life. Whether your rich, poor, young, old, brain surgeon, flippin’ burgers or flippin’ rhymes we All have the same amount of time in each day, it’s what we do with it that matters.
