This little piece is a composition that I made for school actually. It's going to be transcribed for a woodwind quintet, but I really don't know how that is going to sound :):)

I'm totally unfamiliar with woodwind quintets but the teachers going to be a big help for sure...

I hope some of you can dig it....

Juxta Mundi

And here is Juxta Mundi arranged for woodwind quintet... I can't wait to see what it's going to bring live...

Juxta Mundi (woodwind Quintet)

This is a little cinematic intro I made with Stijn Cole's art concept containing seven different parts in mind.

The intro is actually what I felt when the colors were talking to me. So there's no real concept behind it, but the tints and tone had quite a story to tell so I felt the urge to lay down a cinematic feel under the images I got in my mind. 
This of course is just a little part so one may ask, 'what about the rest'? Indeed... :):)
I hope I'll get all the pictures one day so I can reflect more and let the other parts make their say in the 'film' enrolling through my mind so I can make an actual soundtrack around it. 

Stijn Cole explained how he came to the concept and how he created it, but I'm not going to try explain it myself because I'm sure I will destroy the underlying thought and feeling due to my memory failing in remembering his exact words. 

With that in mind, I'm still going to try though :)

There was a painting of Emile Claus (I think, please don't shoot me if I'm wrong) he took as a starting point and for seven days in a row Stijn went to the exact same spot as where Claus made his painting and took pictures with an very short interval (minutes I think) over a time span of four hours. 
These pictures then Stijn translated in an impressionistic manner until he got the outcome he wanted (the result is thus the picture you can see in the link above). 

My initial thought was to go as abstract as the works are. I was going to use the sound spectrum as a reference for translating the colors and tints Stijn achieved in his works where (roughly explained) the more dark and grey parts were going to be more harsh and/or annoying and the lighter colors more 'airy' or melodic. All this with the sound & light spectrum (or color spectrum, didn't think enough about it) tuned to each other so the sound would fit more onto the works. While the 'tuning' was going to be quite 'exact', the talk of art I was going to try and project throughout what I felt contemplating on Stijn's work.

I thought the idea was quite ok, but since we (Fanerose) were working on a big project in Germany at the same time I realized it was impossible to actually work it out. 
Yes indeed, then why writing down the idea? Well maybe this will keep me in touch with it and will eventually let me work out the whole thing. (next to the cinematic idea) 
Or who knows, maybe one of you could jump on it...

So, this piece is just an idea and the mixing and mastering part had little or no attention.












Cinematic Cole

Because of an afterworth party of Soundset MSK I thought that making something with a beat was more appropriate at the time.

Due to time limit and other projects I had no time to get into arrangment, mixing and mastering so the track is quite flat and dull and is quite too long. 
As a Logic and Reason user it was quite a task to make it in Ableton Live. So different than linear or other patch based programs... Was quite frustrating at times, but I recognized the big potential of Live. 

ps: don't listen through crappy speakers, use headphones in case of...




Cole of joy

I'm working as a composer/sound artist and put music under 'Art' in general. For plays, documentaries, shortfilms, our own performances and installation art, but my main goal ofcourse is to put music under a full length film. A lot to learn still, but my lessons in counterpoint, harmony and composition is giving me a nice insight that otherwise stayed only in the realm of intuition. 
Guitar and piano is where my fingers turn things into music...
