One of the most consistent new labels around, Cyphon Recordings, marks double figures with another standout release that gleans from the past but faces the future. This time they look to the talents of Emotive Technology, a new alias from Chilean Massiande who provides a five-track EP of machine-wielding, soul-rousing techno from across the spectrum. Although this may be the first release under his new moniker, Massiande has spent the last decade putting out productions with labels such as Housewax, Phonica, Freerange and Groovin. 
 
Firing on all cylinders from the get-go, ‘Rise’ kicks off the Walk Into The Light EP. A hyperspace melding of new beat, Italo and arp-operating techno that opens out into a slice of peak-time revelry. The swirling textures of ‘It’s On’ follow, pushing you into the next dimension. A hypnotic, entrancing, and arresting heads-down powerhouse. Crunchy and considered it's the kind of strobe-stuttering basement jam that turns heads inside out. Two Detroit-leaning tracks ‘Your Zone’ and ‘Walk Into The Light’ are up next. The former is a heavyweight machine workout. Layered synth lines and crisp drum programming transfix, as that grooving low-end powers bodies into bedlam. The latter, a Motor-City-influenced tour de force. One that sees Massiande recode the circuitry to hit with a piano-laden stunner, balancing power and presence, with emotion and nuance.  Closing out ‘The Swing’ sucks you in deeper. A resonating world of synth stabs, pulsating bass lines and atmospheric electronics.
 
Walk Into The Light is machine music hardwired with a heavy sense of soul.

Piscolabis II is a super sonic fan where we find the organic and robotic atmosphere of Piscolabis Part I and of course the sound experimentations of Golden Bug. The 10 new tracks presented on this sequel are even wilder and stranger, in the best sense of the word. The rhythms are heavy, the guitars of Lionel from The Limiñanas are razor sharp and the distorted grooves of the drum machines carry curious electronic impulses.

The introductory track “ Paradis ” with its choral, fairy tale and epic atmosphere, gives way to a series of slow, raw and bewitching tracks, such as “ Red Wolf ” featuring Phoebe Coco , the heady and mechanical “ Ricochet ”, “ L'Effet Domino ” carried by the voice of Anna Jean of the band Juniore , “ Toupie ” which takes us on chloroformed, hypnotic electronic highway , the psychedelic “ Hi No Tori ” with japanese guest Vega Voga , the retro-futuristic “ Autobahn ” embodied by the voice of Ruben Kielmannsegge , “ Poc a Poc ”, which plunges us into the world of acid-western and “ Boomerang ”, surfing the wave of dub in shamarnic hues.

Piscolabis II builds its own psychological environment to inhabit. And as you sink deeper into it, the music takes on synesthetic turns, with textures swirling all together, igniting the senses. We encourage you to press play, sit back and listen to the album unfold in its entirety.

Exclusive: Juan MacLean feat. Fantastic Twins - She's Breaking Up

Having released on labels such as DFA or Cin Cin together with his partners in crime, Nancy Whang, Nicholas Millhiser and Jerry Fuchs, and under their The Juan MacLean moniker, the New Yorker John MacLean now makes his Correspondant debut as a solo-artist with his Manthony EP. The four tracker features music that seems to be just designed for that special occasion – namely that of presenting four disco influenced tunes tailored for Jennifer Cardini and her label. For She's Breaking Up John teamed up with Berlin producer Fantastic Twins, who delivers's some magnificent vocal bits that emphasize the overall freaky note of the track. It's safe to say that Julienne's addings sweeten the dark scheme of a creepy and sad topic as the take musically portrays how two lovers can come to end, portrayed by two lovers of the art. It smoothly depicts – with all the heaviness that comes with it – an inner strife of a person that's undergoing the aforementioned (last) stage of a relationship and it seem as if MacLean and Julienne, Fantastic Twins real name, are pretty much on the same page when it comes to musically express it. 

Juan MacLean's EP Manthony will be released on Correspondant on May 15th, 2020.

One of the nicest guys in the scene Luca Venezia aka @CursesForever is known for his unique blends of New Wave and Post-Punk with his ghostly vocals and guitars, punctuated with flashes of 80's EBM and New Beat. Whether it's performing live at the late Andrew Weatherall's Convenanza Festival, DJng in the main room at Circoloco DC-10 or indeed his own productions which often exploring the darker side of 80's Italo-disco, he continues to grow legions of new admirers. 

A few years back he launched his own imprint @OmbraInternational and the label soon established itself as a quality outlet for lovers of this unique brand of synth laden, bass guitar inspired electronica. Recently we collaborated with the label and a selection of the Ombra family to support '30 hours for Beirut' with Ballroom Blitz and Palestinian Radio Alhara to raise money for those most affected by recent event in Beirut. Over the course of the coming week we're delighted to share the sets during this radio event via the Sinchi Channel.
