Wasabi is a mastermind of manuevering in the subtly of sound. This DJ/Producer hails from Santa Marta, Colombia and New Jersey now resides in Miami, has had his hands on the turntables since adolescence. He not only had the innate understanding of the actual skill of djing, but also the uncanny ability to excite a crowd of any size. Wasabi realized music has been part of his family for generations, as it runs deep in his blood and his heritage.  Music became a major influence in his life, and opened his appetite to develop his own style in mixing and blending music, which led him in another direction of sound.

Wasabi birthed his first track called “Flauta y Fuego” (Flute and Fire), a passionate expression of roots of Colombia, with an original set by Master Flutist Mr. Oscar Romero with sampled vocals by the legendary Toto La Momposina. In sharing this single track with the Grammy Award winner Louie Vega, in his full support, led to his first original single track being added to the Vega Records Catalog  www.vegarecords.net. 

Recent Remixes include Drake’s One Dance and Alicia Keys’ In Common; with many original diverse genre produced tracks such as “Caderona” which is being introduced overseas in Spain, Italy, and Greece.

Wasabi Fania Selections Mixtapes - Vol .02

La Salsa es un género y una cultura gestada en países latinos, principalmente República Dominicana, Cuba, Puerto Rico y Colombia, pero con cuna indiscutible en New York City. Es muy importante saber que la Salsa debe ser abordada mas allá de un simple patrón rítmico, o más allá de la clave; debe ser vista como todo un fenómeno cultural, étnico, armónico, y ante todo, mixto y popular, pues la salsa nace en la barriada, en la pobreza. Y es básico diferenciar tanto cronológicamente como musicalmente el llamado "Latin Jazz" de la Salsa. Para describirla de una manera un tanto escueta, la Salsa, musicalmente hablando, fue propulsada por influencias musicales de varios estilos nativos antillanos, como la guaracha, la bomba, el guaguancó, el mambo, chachachá, y el son montuno o la música Jibara, indistinguibles para la mayoría de la gente. La salsa principalmente incorpora en su base, rasgos armónicos de la música aborigen caribeña y elementos rítmicos de la música afro-americana como el Jazz y el Soul.

Sobre el origen del termino "Salsa" hay mil teorías, aunque ninguna probada como absolutamente cierta. La más aceptada data de 1933, cuando Ignacio Piñeiro utilizara por primera vez el término, en un tema del son cubano titulado «Échale Salsita» . Pero no es sino hasta los años 60´s cuando se diera el "boom" terminológico de la palabra "salsa" como definición de un género musical, por la colaboración de la famosa orquesta Fania All-Stars dirigida por el dominicano Johnny Pacheco quien junto al desaparecido abogado Jerry Masucci fundarían el importante sello salsero Fania Records.
