Building upon the tradition of both historic labels, FANTASY (est. 1949) and VANGUARD RECORDS (est. 1947) now primarily encompass rock and alternative releases. Brothers Max and Sol Weiss started FANTASY from their plastic molding business in 1949, and the label was historically a multi-genre, eclectic home for a diverse roster of artists local to the San Francisco bay area, and music ranging from rock to funk to jazz to soundtracks. Fantasy began hitting platinum many times over with Creedence Clearwater Revival in the late 1960s and enjoyed tremendous success due to iconic albums from The Vince Guaraldi Trio (A Charlie Brown Christmas), Tony Bennett (The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album), and many others, as well as soundtracks from Academy Award-winning films One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Amadeus and The English Patient.
