Beirut-based DJ & curator, Ralph Nasr has been crafting his signature sound for 10 years now, digging house gems, disco bangers and minimal grooves, always making sure passion comes first.
Having held residencies at the city's finest clubs, such as The Garten, B018 and The Ballroom Blitz, he’s been known for his rich sets and contagious energy, playing alongside artists like Peggy Gou, Shonky, Dam Swindle, Archie Hamilton, Nastia and many others.

On his daytime duty he wears a different hat and runs the retrogroove collective, organizing parties all around the region with a dedicated team of creatives promoting cultural expression through dance parties and visual arts. He’s currently hopping from one city to another showcasing in Paris, Madrid, Istanbul, Dubai & Cairo.

If you don’t see Ralph wearing his white coat anymore, it’s because he found out chemistry can be created on the dancefloors just as much as in the lab. So if you bump into him scribbling notes and designing a space, make sure to ask him this: “How can I throw the perfect party?”

For the next EP from small but well formed label Fantôme de Nuit, the boss himself steps up with four great tracks produced in cahoots with friend Rolbac. The package also comes with a remix from veteran US producers Dance Spirit and is a super release as a result. 

Technophile and Rolbac are two young DJs and producers hailing from Beirut. They have worked together before now to great acclaim, while the former is also a solo artist as Nesta and resident DJ & partner in the mighty Uberhaus/The Garten club in Beirut. Rolbac also works on labels like Einmusika Recordings and Cohesive, and when the pair come together they cook up nocturnal tech house with a mysterious air that makes it all the more intriguing. 

Opening up the account with excellence is ‘Pandora’s Box’, a supple tech house tune that is filled with neon chords and sombre synths and driven by warm gusts of bass and slick drums. ‘Melqart’ is just as rooted in the edge of the galaxy with its cosmic feel, kinked drums and space ship like sounds. They are smooth and synthetic but full of electronic funk, while ‘Lunar Station’ keeps up the futuristic and sci-fi vibes with its freaky acid line and widescreen tech grooves. 

Showing a different side that is just as interesting, ‘Cosmic Frog’ is a slower jaunt through the cosmos with churning drums and technoid synth lines. Breathy female vocal sounds add an all important something that will ensure this one really stands out, and Superfreq and Rebellion duo Dance Spirit then round things out with a top version of ‘Melqart.’ The Americans layer in spine tingling melodies and perfectly reduced minimal beats, clicks and machine-made sounds, and in doing so conjure up a delightful late night cut for cosy back rooms or freaky after parties everywhere. 

Fans of electronic music that looks to the future but retains a real sense of soul need look no further for their next kick than this one.

Prior to their 3 track EP on Fantôme de Nuit, we proudly present to you Berlin duo skinnerbox.

For more than 10 years Skinnerbox make tremendous contributions to the wide field of electronic-music-making. Olaf Hilgenfeld  and Iftah Gabbai, two talented musicians with different backgrounds, are amongst the very few that actually play electronic music live on stage. Their live shows are a great display of playfulness, artistic skills and the ability to completely improvise a thrilling performance. Over the years Skinnerbox have developed a distinctively musical and groovy style, a complex, detailled, idiomatic sound and a bunch of unique technical setups and instruments for live shows as well as studio productions.

They started performing in the legendary party contexts of Bachstelzen and Bar25 in Berlin back in 2005. Ever since they have been all over Europe and played widely respected tours throughout big parts of the world. Skinnerbox continuously release their studio productions on labels like BPitch Control, My Favorite Robot, Darkroom Dubs, including several musical collaborations with other artists.
In 2014 was the premiere of “Time & Timbre” – a software drum-sequencer and drum-synthesizer for Max4Live. 2016 an update was released including tools to fuse Ableton Live with modular gear in a unique way. It is the result of an ongoing technical relationship with Ableton and the idea to make instruments available for the public which were originally designed by Skinnerbox for their personal needs in the studio. In 2016 Skinnerbox gave well attended workshops at Ableton’s LOOP convention and during their latest tour in Central America sharing their knowledge and experience in playing Live Electronic Music.

It is difficult to talk about the Tunisian underground music scene without mentioning Cross End a.k.a Leith Ben Ammar. Leith is one the main guys behind remarkable events such as HYPE Tunisia and Art Fair, some of the most recognised and respected house and techno events in North Africa.
He shares his passion for music on the Tortuga Podcast which is followed by hundreds. People are drawn into his beautiful sets, which have been witnessed around the globe at places such as WMC Miami, Unleash and Boneca London, Queen Paris, The Garten Beirut..
Cross End is the head honcho of Crossings, an atypical London based label which provides a platform for local heroes from around the globe, and for their communities to interact and grow.

Eclectic Electric - Daylight is the second half of Nesta’s latest album project. The Lebanon based artist this time turns his attention to the Daylight theme and again excels across eight masterfully organic tracks.

A third remix album will follow this one, and they all come after years building a fan base thanks to his work both as Nesta and Technophile and the development of his own label, Fantôme de Nuit. This hard to define artist was a part of the renowned club, The Garten, holds a residency at The Grand Factory and always mixes up experimental frequencies and fine engineering skills to craft expressive music that takes in a wide world of influences from house to jazz, disco to synth.
This is a listening album right from the off: opener ‘Heaven Meets Paradise’ is a beautifully deep instrumental with live drums and dreamy melodies that will sooth your soul, then ‘Horace’s Groove’ is a perfect mix of beatdown house and lounging jazz vibes, ‘Jamal’s Jazz’ lays piano tinkles and off grid drum fills, hits and snares over a heavyweight, slowed down groove and ‘Lady J’ brings back beautiful melodies and cosmic chords with more fantastic live drums.
This most mellifluous album rolls on with ‘Piece of Mind’ featuring Alko B, whose soothing vocals add soul to the jazzy broken beats, trumpets and melodic bass. ‘Dance With Me’ is a gorgeous house cut with real musicality, funky sax and romantic late night feelings, the mood becomes more dance floor focused with the rubbery bass and glowing chords of deep house classic ‘Lullabies’ and the uplifting ‘Hold Me’ is a disco re-rub that is heartfelt and rousing. This is a superb standalone LP of rich, jazzy house and broken beat, as well as a perfect accompaniment to the first already well received half of the album.

Lumi’s fantastic last album The Night Was A Liar gets remixed in real style by the likes of
skinnerbox, Al Rajul Al Hadidi, Rolbac and HEAR on the next excellent Fantôme de Nuit release.
Lumi hail from Beirut in Lebanon and are well respected for their krautrock and electro releases.
Their album, made in Montreal and released earlier in the year, was a real classic and now gets
reinterpreted in fine fashion by this classy selection of names.
First up are skinnerbox, the German duo known for their improvised live music on labels like
BPitch Control and Turbo. Their version of ‘From A Dream’ is an enthralling analogue trip into
psyched-out acid and kraut, featuring haunting pads and spooky synths that create a brilliantly
unusual vibe.
Caoutchou Recordings’ mysterious Al Rajul Al Hadidi is a one-man project who mixes up
samples from bygone eras with a sense of ethereal nostalgia. And that defines his intoxicating
remix of ‘Spring’, which is thoughtful and far sighted, featuring mid-tempo drums overlaid with a
sea of retro synth and optimistic melodies.
Next up is Lebanon’s Rolbac, a key player on his local scene and someone whose four-four
sounds are infused with exotic motifs and transfixing synths. He flips ‘Raised in Fire’ into
something fantastically left-of-centre, with bendy synths and elastic bass making you move as
twinkling keys rain down from above.
Last but not least, Canadian HEAR is as unpredictable as they come. He has fronted bands with
Hakim Murphy, played key festivals like MUTEK and clubs like Watergate, and also runs the
Naissance Musik label. His Dirty Jiggling mix of ‘Raised in Fire’ has lumpy drums and percolating
bass that keep you off balance and are run through with suspensory synths. It’s an inventively
rhythmic affair that brings plenty of freshness to the track.
