Releases rarely come much bigger than this. When Cypherpunx (aka Flip Fantazia) submitted ‘Alien’ to Renaissance HQ we had that instant reaction; it was a record we had to sign. But this should come as little surprise, the pedigree behind it is immense - Cypherpunx have a CV that already includes Crosstown Rebels, Bedrock and GU. One half of the duo, NOLAN, recently featured on Sasha’s LUZoSCURA album and has upcoming releases on Mobilee, LNOE and Rebellion; plus - as if that weren’t enough - the vocals come from none other than Sian Evans of Kosheen, who arrives hot off a Beatport number 1 with Tinlicker’s re-work of ‘Hide U’. 

“I know it’s been said before lately, but ‘Alien’ is yet another pandemic baby,” explains NOLAN, “having still not met in person, a mutual friend hooked us up with Sian who was into our sound and happy to come up with some killer top-line vocals for a few of the tracks we sent over to her in Bristol. Alien fitted perfectly.” 

“Despite not having a conventional song structure with a chorus as such, and with guidance from Renaissance to take it slightly darker to counter Sian’s instantly recognisable voice, we felt very excited with the finished product”, says Doug, the other half of Cypherpunx.

And it is for this reason one of the world’s biggest producers signed-on to remix it - Sébastien Léger. “I haven’t done a remix for 2 years, which isn’t for a lack of offers, I just need to be able to hear the potential and Sian’s vocal really swung it,” he confirms, “I instantly knew I’d be able to do something unique”, which we think is a bit of an understatement to say the least as it’s an absolute whopper of a track, set to become one of summer’s standout anthems. “I’ve been road-testing it at my recent return gigs and based on the reactions from the dancefloor it looks promising!”, he says humbly.

Coming together out of their own individual musical worlds, Rodriguez Jr. and Liset Alea met 15 years ago creating music for Laurent Garnier’s legendary imprint, F Communications. Since then, each have gone on to have blinding careers of their own, developing individual personas and sounds, becoming leaders in their fields.

A stunning partner, singer-songwriter, Liset Alea has been releasing albums since her teens. Perfectly poised for stardom since, her solo career saw her co-founding drum and bass, trip-hop band, Etro Anime in New York; co-writing and providing vocals on all songs. From here the only way was up for Alea, leaving the band to pursue her own truly solo ventures, her debut LP, No Sleep, released on EMI, was popular across multiple European territories. As an already well-seasoned artist, she later fronted the French new-wave group, Nouvelle Vague for seven years, touring the world, providing exciting and enchanting performances. With such a notable career to date that spans numerous musical styles from Drum and Bass to Downtempo New Wave, it is clear to see how Alea and Rodriguez Jr. are so perfectly matched.  
 
Known to many, as one of the best live electronic music acts the industry has to offer, Rodriguez Jr. is a multi-faceted musician as opposed to a DJ or producer. Well respected for his unique brand of melodic techno, Jr. takes his influences from genre’s far and wide feeding into his eclecticism. From classical artists such as Stockhausen to electronic groups such as Kraftwerk and LFO, his performances offer a new take on how electronic music can function in a club environment. Upon signing with Mobilee Records, Rodriguez has remained one of the imprints most treasured artists, proving time after time that live electronic music and performance, is as spell binding as any digitized track or record being spun. 

No strangers to collaboration, Jr. and Alea recently worked together on Rodriguez’s album ‘Baobab’; it was here that their creative flame was ignited. Inspired by one another’s musical tastes, the synergy between these two talents was clear from the start, making the prospect of future work together a certainty. Now picking back up on unfinished business, Jr. and Alea announce their new project RJLA, kicking things off with summer track ‘Radio’, releasing on Rodriguez’s native home, Mobilee Records.

Drawing on previous collaborations together, new and original single ‘Radio’ is a reflection of both artists musical appetites. Alongside ‘Radio’ Jr. and Alea include ‘Radian’, initially released by Rodriguez on his ‘Baobab’ album, Alea and him re-recorded the track during their cliff-top live performance for Cercle; Alea’s vocals elevating Rodriguez’s highly complex and technical melodies to new places. An extremely exciting and interesting project for Mobilee, the partnership between Rodriguez Jr. and Liset Alea presents electronic music for ears on and off the dancefloor.

RJLA - Radian (Cercle Version)

Singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Alexander Sjödin proves his virtuosities once more under his well known Sailor & I moniker on his fresh take on electronica, the Lost in this Civilized World EP.

Opener Coming Down is a quintessential piece of dreamy electronica, radiating an ethereal atmosphere largely summoned by the artists recognizable crooning vocals. The soulful melody and evocative synths add a touch of extra sonic magic, rounding off the instrumental.

Black Monday showcases Sjödins piano mastery, as a yearning melodic loop sets the stage. Filled with suspense and tension via gleaming synths, the track leads to an intense and dramatic breakdown that leaves a lasting impression.
Melancholy-driven piano is key on Isolated Tears, a pensive downtempo composition that touches on the artists classical side, bridging it into modern day electronica with playful glitches and subtle percussion.

Kellerkind takes on Coming Down, amping up the dance factor with an energetic, standout bassline that contorts underneath bleeps and chimes, emphasising Sailor & Is croons.

Coming Down gets another remix treatment by Deorbiting, who serve up a spaced out, glitched version of the original with a suspenseful breakdown and energy-inducing sequences.
