pcahuilcsaigmon is the new cassette release from innovative US based sound and visual artist Steve Roden and the second instalment in our new series of cassette tape editions.

Farpoint Recordings are pleased to present this latest audio work from Steve Roden containing two new long tracks presented on compact audio cassette.

Featuring a vibrant blue cassette shell, each wrapped with full colour fold-out artwork with a front image by Steve Roden all housed in a clear plastic box. On the inside face of the cover artwork the artist contributes a short text relating to the audio -

“so i slide over to the object. and i say, “you... hey you... you object. you are everything.” i remember seeing. a lot in an auction. consisting of small pieces. of rotted wood. and rusted nails. these objects. seemed to have. lost their usefulness. but they were. pieces of george washington’s coffin. so history plays a part. in determining. an object’s resonance. like a talisman. whatever is imbued. remains in the object. and gives it power. transformation and alchemy. are part of any leap. of faith.” (excerpt, by Steve Roden)

Silence / Sound is a collaboration between film-maker Pat Collins and sound designer Tadhg O’Sullivan that presents a unique sonic version of Collins’s 2012 feature film Silence.

The film tells the story of Eoghan, a sound recordist who is returning to Ireland for the first time in fifteen years. The reason for his return is a job: to record landscapes free from man-made sound. His quest takes him to remote terrain, away from towns and villages. Throughout his journey, he is drawn into a series of encounters and conversations which gradually divert his attention towards a more intangible silence, one that is bound up with the sounds of the life he had left behind.

Paring back what was already a sparse, meditative work, Silence / Sound is an immersive journey through the sonic geography of Eoghan’s route and into the sonic memories that emerge from it.

White Star Line, the new 45rpm 7 inch vinyl single from innovative Cork based sound artist Danny McCarthy and also the first in a new series of 7 inch vinyl editions by Farpoint Recordings.

Yet another lovely piece from McCarthy, featuring two tracks, a short sleeve note and cover photography by the artist.

The title of this work “White Star Line” refers to the ship the Titanic, and also the company that ran the shipping line. The Titanic’s last port of call was Cobh, Co Cork, Ireland. This recording was created using electronics and field recordings made at, on and under the actual pier that the last passengers crossed to board the boats that brought them out to the Titanic which was moored nearby in the harbour.

McCarthy made the field recordings that are included in these tracks on the 14th -15th  April 2012,  the centenary of the sinking of the ship.

Paul Kane and Katie O'Looney | Seven Catastrophes in Four Movements
A new CD / booklet featuring poetry and sound by Paul Kane and Katie O'Looney.

Presented as a special fold out booklet printed on uncoated paper stock, hand numbered edition with an audio CD mounted into the back cover.

The folding booklet contains poetry and notes by American poet Paul Kane. He has published five volumes of poems including Work Life (2007) and A Slant Of Light (2008) as well as eight other books of various kinds. The audio CD features readings of the poems by Paul Kane and music by Irish improviser Katie O' Looney. The music plays off the poems in various ways: it responds to, shapes and at times, leads the text as a parallel creation, partly composed and partly improvised.

The genesis of Seven Catastrophes in Four Movements was a poetry reading in Périgord in the south of France where Katie and I met up. We spoke casually about doing something together at some point but soon thereafter Katie came up with a serious proposal for collaboration. She wanted to do a project centered on the number seven, which, fortuitously, coincided with some reading I had been doing in Catastrophe Theory,which defines seven possible models for how complex systems fail when pushed too far.
