This is an "improved" version of a recording I made in '95 or '96. Which means this track has been with me half my life so far. Schöneberg is a district in my hometown of Berlin (also the title of great techno track). It's where I spent a lot of my childhood, where I fell deeply in love for the 1st time, where I first kissed a girl and bought my 1st synthesizer. It's where I still live. This track's supposed to be a postivie, uplifting instrumental hymn about life. Judge for yourself. This mix has a 909 kick drum.

This Kid Grew Up, But Not the Way He Was Supposed To

He used to dream of being someone good. Someone kind. Someone better than the broken home that raised him. But dreams don’t survive in places like that. Not when your mother locks herself in the bathroom with a needle, and your father looks at you like you’re the reason he’s miserable.

At school, the other kids smelled the weakness on him like blood in the water. They tripped him in hallways, laughed when he flinched, made sure he knew he was nothing. Teachers turned the other way. No one ever asked if he was okay. No one ever cared.

As he grew, the world didn’t change. Every job he worked, someone took advantage. Every friend he trusted, someone betrayed. Life never gave him a hand—it only pushed him down and dared him to get back up. Until one day, he didn’t. He stopped feeling. Stopped caring. Stopped believing in anything but survival.

Now, he looks at people and sees only obstacles. He doesn’t love. He doesn’t grieve. Pain doesn’t touch him anymore, because there’s nothing left inside to hurt.

They broke him so completely that all that remains is a shell. And somehow, that feels like freedom.
