The Balek Band’s first album, Médecines, is the product of a magma of influences, the emanation of large decade of music infused lives. The emotional tessitura is wide: the dark meadows of “The Balek Bad” reach us through like a mantra from the end of a dark tunnel, while just three track earlier it was a caribbean Zouk euphoria which ruled the world. Inbetween, it’s a wide spectrum of hybrid epiphanies : Hagen & Again is a progressive Dub jewel, even Krauty to an extent, where the instruments play the lead role. Cosmic Barry is across the Channel : thick and broken club music, sweating with subs, yet always disputing it to the Funk accent of the the keys and the slap bass. This list of Geographical and stylistic hybridations simplys goes on, and it’s the XX minutes of the album that put an end to it. But beyond the never-ending list, this first album is alive : its gets us breathing the therapeutical air which fills the world of its creators.

Le premier album, Médecines, de The Balek Band est le produit d'un magma d'influences, l'émanation d'une grosse décennie de vies traversées par la musique. Dans l'orbite de la communauté Abstrack, la danse et la fête ne sont jamais loin : dans Médecines, elle dessinent l'ossature multicolore d’un corps traversé par des impulsions aussi fortes que diverses. La tessiture émotionnelle est large : les brumes obscures de The Balek Bad nous parviennent comme un mantra chanté du fond d'un tunnel, alors que trois pistes plutôt, c’était l'euphorie Zouk caribéenne qui semblait indépassable. Entre les deux, un large spectre de fulgurances hybrides : Hagen & Again est un bijou Dub progressif, presque Kraut, où les instruments sont au centre du jeu. L’outre Manche est incarnée dans Cosmic Barry : club musique épaisse et breakée, qui transpire le sub, mais dialogue en fil rouge avec les accents Funk portés par les claviers et la basse slapée. L’énumération des hybridations spatiales et stylistiques continue presque indéfiniment, et n’est finalement limitée que par les XX minutes de l’album. C’est le temps écoulé qui semble donc être la limite à cet incroyable projet, tout comme il en avait été le catalyseur, s’offrant en quantités pléthoriques au groupe, lors des premiers confinements.

Caravan’s Coarsica EP is a gorgeous six-tracker of wandering drum machines and shiny synths, washed with the burnt umbers and viridescent hues of the Australian outback. Computer-funk with a green thumb. As the track-listing suggests, Coarsica is a tribute to subtle and compelling beauty of Australia’s native flora, as if Costa Georgiadis and Dâm-Funk got away from the big smoke for a weekend and spent the whole time by the river cooking this bad boy up. Like rugged and stoic Banksia, or the regal Flindersia, each track on the Coarsica EP provides a dappled shade under which the weary dancer can rest in these hot summer months.

Turbo Recordings is proud to present a release a full year in the making. A&R’d by Turbo Elder Thomas Von Party, Gender embodies the adventurous spirit of his own Multi Culti label, and marks a return to the kind of mega remix pack we used to make when the world was young and an alternate dub rework was all you needed to get by.

Germany’s Skinnerbox sets the template with a high-speed jungle rave banger, which is an accurate enough description but not something we would expect you to ever repeat out loud. The 12-inch also features versions by Swedish nice guy Axel Boman, who missed the submission deadline by 13 minutes but still managed to turn in a 12-minute epic jam, and Glasgow’s Auntie Flo, who somehow harnessed the siren song of the iPhone with a marimba-heavy mix.

As a digital bonus, we’ve included a massive trance weapon from Berlin legend Ellen Allien, with the understanding that you will spend the time it takes to download to reflect as hard as you can on the importance of equality and respect. All we are saying is give thinking what we tell you to think a chance.

Lawrence and his label, Dial Music, are no strangers to the speakers of the Fiction Lab: his delicate minimalistic aesthetic has been delighting us on many occasions.  When we heard he was remixing Truby Trio's Universal Love, we were immediately intrigued: how would this funky, groovy and upbeat original be morphed into a Lawrence track. Well, if we had to visualize the creative process, we'd guess that Lawrence was swimming underwater as the original track was playing on the beach when he got his idea for the remix.  Have you ever heard music under water?  The bass gets more prominent but also thump-y and muted.  The highs don’t do well in the water and get filtered out or recede into the background, overpowered by the thump of the bass.  The melodic mids acquire a sense of mystery and smoothness in their flow, but also a sense of distance.  And so it goes with this remix: its bass is prominent, its highs are nothing but gentle flutters, its melody is muted and aquatic sounding.  The energy and drive are dialed (get it? Lawrence? Dial Music?) down and a funky booty shaker of an original gets submerged into Lawrence's ocean to produce a sequence of meditative, delicate melodic phrases that float in and out at will, propelled forward by bass which is the part that most closely anchors (aquatic puns anyone?) the remix to the original.

PREMIERE: Trüby Trio - Universal Love (Lawrence Remix)[Compost]

There's nothing quite like an Afterlife record to conjure up the feeling of dancing in Ibiza and Steve Miller's latest offering is the aural representation of dusty roads, shimmering horizons, glistening water and a heady, humid atmosphere.  'Into The Heat' chugs along over a deep subtle bassline, languid hand drums and sensuous keys that slink their way through emotive pads and swirling seductive arpreggios. Make no mistake, summer has arrived.

Hell Yeah welcomes the Italian musical collective Aura Safari for a debut EP on the label.

The band, who are at the forefront of a new Italian fusion sound that blends jazz-funk, electronic and world sounds, is made up of acclaimed house devotee Nicholas Iammatteo, plus Alessandro Deledda, Lorenzo Lavoratori, Daniele Melloni and Andrea Moretti. They contributed a standout track to the Buena Onda - Balearic Beats compilation last year as well as releasing a full length LP on UK label Church to critical acclaim.

Opener 'Dreams of Music' is a lush, new age groove with rich musicality, wind instruments and live drums all glowing warmly as you roll into sundown. 'Oasis' then sinks into a reflective mood, with lazy drums and sensuous late night chords sounding like Roy Ayers all loved up and super stoned. The noodling keys really melt your heart before the excellent 'Slow Divers' pairs more majestic bass riffs with wet claps and splashing cymbals as a wandering lead drifts up to the heavens. It has a dubby swagger to it that is superbly subtle.

Closing out the EP 'Libra', is a heartwarming, slow motion, jazz-funk fusion packed with detail and life affirming synth playing.

These are gloriously heartfelt tracks that showcase this collective's supreme musical ability as well as their unquestionable understanding of jazz, funk and soul, past, present and future.
