@soreabuk returns to Control Freak for a full length white label release - a masterclass in organic, dubbed-out, dancefloor psychedelia, featuring live recordings by sound artist and modular percussionist @cikkun, following a recent collaboration with Azu Tiwaline.

As a DJ, producer and co-founder of Baroque Sunburst, Italian-born Soreab has been a mainstay of London’s underground electronic music scene for over 5 years. On ‘Teleportation’, he manipulates and twists Cinna’s deft percussion work into a distinct range of UK styles, ranging from 170bpm euphoria to subby, half-time explorations from the school of FWD>> and Plastic People.

On the B2, Jay Duncan (Phantasy Sound / Intergraded) takes a decidedly minimal tack with her remix of ‘Untitled 1’, with deep, dubby chord stabs and immersive rhythms for late night dancefloor revelations.

Flippen Bits is the new offshoot from the Amsterdam based Flippen Disks label ran by Monty DJ. While the main imprint sets out to find its own space in between genres to move dance floors while staying non-functional enough for home listening pleasure, this new sub has a more functional approach. Wild and energetic, bass heavy bits for the more playful DJ's in the late nights.

First up is Maroki, the Wales raised and Amsterdam based producer, known for recent releases on E-Beamz and Shall Not Fade offshoot Lost Palms, comes in strong with four excellent futuristic bass hybrids. It also contains two MXC reworks created together with Nottingham's @coraliescoob

Coldred EP is a wild ride, it takes you from the heavy percussion title-track Coldred to the acidic stuttering breakbeats of Nightshop On The Way. The MXC version adds a true sub-heavy steppers vibe to the original where they flip TFMPP into a mesmerizing broken beat affair fit for the wormhole. With early support from DJ's like Madam X and mad miran it's an exciting new chapter in the Flippen Disks catalog with loads more lined up for the next year.

Fast Castle level up with 5 playful bass cuts dealing bonus damage to dance-floors and bass bins alike. On "Silk Armor" Gent1e $oul shows off his skills in manoeuvring abstract soundscapes. Making use of laser-precision drum programming and rattling sub bass action, "Silk Armor" unlocks unlikely melodic hooks from twisted detuned percussion and synth sequences. Tried and tested to be a winning strategy – maybe even a new meta gameplay?

Competitive in all relevant game modes, "Silk Armor" features tools for all scenarios: The title track and "Recurve Bow", which features crucial knob twisting by FC-partner Cubemod, cruise at club-friendly (130bpm-ish) territory. "Logistica" and "Sober Ears" shape-shift at sub100, covering downtempo and dancehall scenarios, while "Geomagnetic Reversal" delivers standout bass pressure for advanced application at 75/150bpm.

As all of our Releases, "Silk Armor" features an Age of Empires II inspired Artwork. An epic "Lava World" courtesy of Jonas at 200 Kilo to close this trilogy. Printed in matt finished on a beautiful full-cover for the limited vinyl edition-of-200.

Kincaid (@kincaidofficial) lands on Redstone Press (@redstone-press) with an expansive four-tracker. Having recently relocated to Berlin, Joe’s first work since moving sets out his direction musically as well as geographically.

“Don’t Get No Sun” kicks off proceedings with an anxious energy that bubbles away under the surface throughout. Haunting ambience, warped vocals and staggering textures finally give way to heavy 4/4 pressure.

“On Hands” dispenses with nuance in favour of scalpel-like percussion and UK-inflected vocal snapshots, creating a fast-paced cut with just enough head-frying synth lines to keep you dizzy.

“Gutter” takes a calmer, more measured approach but with the same focus, incisive drum work and vocal chopping but aimed at those loose moments at the start and end of the night.

“Getting More Sun” closes out the EP with more intimacy and space. Ethereal synths replace vocals and club energy in this more tranquil number. Perfect for that post-club wind-down.

Beta Librae @blibrae returns to Incienso with her third album, “DAYSTAR”. Whereas her previous album for the label, “Sanguine Bond” was an altogether more heady affair - “DAYSTAR”, like the name implies, is a bright and bold waypoint in the ever expanding Beta Librae universe.

On eight songs, including a striking collaboration with james K @jamesk_1 on the lead single “Late At Night”, Beta gathers up new elements of sound and pairs them her unmistakable rhythmic shapes to bring us the most wide-ranging and cohesive B.L. album yet.

To celebrate Grid 2nd anniversary, we gathered together thirteen earth-shattering tracks from the bass scene’s most promising creators, all aimed to move you in the most primordial way. Evoking images of vast landscapes and deep underground catacombs.

INTL.PDCOMP002 celebrates music’s boundlessness, sampling different flavours of dance music from around the world and fusing them together to form a cohesive whole. The eighth Pressure Dome compilation ties a common thread between hi-octane drum ‘n’ bass mutations and contemplative slow burners, capturing the sonic quality at Pressure Dome’s core as well as embodying our community ethos. Some faces familiar, and others soon-to-be; some hailing from as far afield as Melbourne and New York and others repping the other side of the pond in Switzerland and Ukraine, INTL.PDCOMP002 connects the dots, both between our international family members, and seemingly disparate corners of dance music. 

Some tracks are left to unfurl slowly, gently but assuredly taking up space amongst more high-energy club tools. On Azie, Ukrainian hardware fanatic Dubplanet X hones in on sound design, gradually introducing the complex soundscape’s every layer over a rhythm that cruises at 100BPM. DJ Durbin’s Defttime and Zara’s Zwer stay on the same tip: the former employing a tantalising melody evoking a windchime, and the latter comprising cavernous percussion and acid synths. On Broken Signs, Swiss newcomer Fels bolsters a dembow-inflected rhythm with a gnarly sub bass, whilst Rinse France resident Beatrice takes it to new extremes on Fortunately: a dubstep wobbler that harks back the genre’s golden age. 

Keeping on the hardcore continuum is Infinite Machine affiliate Design Default whose track Mecha Eden is a glitched-out d’n’b mutation that switches in and out of half-time. On the faster end of the spectrum, he is joined by Parisian producer Trois-Quarts Taxi System with the full-bodied dubwise steppa Sur le gouffre. And with our feet firmly planted on the dance floor, Elsa injects a healthy dose of playfulness into her propulsive techno iteration Left My Feelings, whilst Edinburgh’s LWS and NYC’s Tano embrace all things off-kilter. On Day 7, LWS deploys the mindfuck nature of Fever AM co-head honcho Rhyw’s music, whilst Tano’s Keep Your Distance harks more closely to Ploy with menacing vocal chops and an industrial sound palette.
