Thugwidow is set to unleash his brand new album Seventh Circle Of Litness on Western Lore.

This will be the first album from the Manchester-based artist on the Bristol-based label and their first full release together since 2019's Hard Rave Aesthetic EP.

Having previously released many albums across labels such as Pure Life Records, Hollow Point One and Kudatah, Thugwidow's latest may well be his best as he offers up a truly expansive and massively impressive 15-track project which explores all the points across the breakbeat spectrum with his typically masterful finesse.

and what better home for it than Alex Eveson aka Dead Man's Chest's Western Lore imprint, one of our favourite labels here at UKBM, giving a home to the productions of artists such as Coco Bryce, Earl Grey, Crypticz and many more.

Today we are incredibly excited to share with you the opening and title track of the album, Seventh Circle Of Litness. A fitting title to say the least, licked with hardcore influences, breakbeat wizardry and an irresistibly heavy rave aesthetic. Huge!

Hot off dropping an EP on Hooversound, East London DJ and producer Drumskull launches his own eponymous label with a double-header featuring Club Glow co-founder Mani Festo.

The four-tracker includes an original from each producer – both tracks previously released on Seagrave before it closed its doors last year, taking its back catalogue with it. With these reissued versions remastered, each producer then remixes the other for a fresh, new take.

Drumskull's 'Phase Velocity' displays the same genre fluidity highlighted on 2020's debut album 'Interlocked'. Starting out with a footwork stutter, lush chords floating over booming 808s, the vibe evolves, rolling breaks adding in a jungle intensity. Mani Festo reconstructs this for 140 floors, his club kick pattern providing the bounce as flanging, time-stretched breakbeats keep it rooted in the hardcore continuum.

Mani Festo, aka South East London DJ, producer and graphic artist, Nick Marks, has previously appeared on labels such as Rupture, E-Beamz, Sneaker Social Club and Club Glow, which he runs with LMajor, Borai and Denham Audio. 'Hours' highlights his background in drum and bass, rude basslines running under techy, metallic breaks. Reduced down to 135 by Drumskull, deep, deadly subs and bumpy, swung drums focus it into a dark, shuffling groove.

Combining two of the leading lights from the new wave of breakbeat music, the Phase Velocity EP is released digitally on Friday 24th March 2023 with a limited run of lathe cuts available via the launch party at Planet Wax in London on the same date and to follow on Bandcamp.

The Young Punx – Mashpop & Punkstep: DnB Mixes

The Young Punx team up with Croatian drum & bass powerhouse Kodin to reimagine tracks from their cult 2009 album Mashpop & Punkstep through a dark DnB lens.

At the centre of the EP is “Like Dat” (feat. Count Bass D) — a tough, neuro-tinged rework that blends heavyweight low-end with occasional Blade Runner-style synth atmospheres. Bronx-born indie-rap legend Count Bass D delivers surreal, coded verses — retelling The Young Punx’s tour stories in a hybrid of Tennessee/Atlanta slang and clipped London RP — over Kodin’s cinematic production.

Also included is Kodin’s reinvention of the ragga-tinged “Juice and Gin”, the remix that first caught The Young Punx’s ear and sparked the whole collaboration. His distinctive sound design and uncompromising grooves push the track into deeper, futuristic territory.

To complete the package, Phonat’s Punkstep Mix of “Ready For The Fight” is included — a rock-meets-drum & bass collision driven by distorted guitars, perfectly reflecting the culture-clash ethos of the original album. Previously released, it’s included here to round out the DnB collection.

Visuals for the release come from Dutch artist Han Hoogerbrugge, whose typographical chaos of lyrics set against pixelated sea creatures and cityscapes offers a uniquely abstract response to the music.
