The cascading hollowness of Japanese producer Mars89's latest album 'Visions' for Bedouin Records evokes a hypnotising atmosphere that takes the listener on a cinematic journey through what is best described as a post-apocalyptic daydream. In its entirety, this album is a political act against capitalism and urban infrastructure as a whole, paying homage to those who endure the various ways in which capitalists and authoritarian governments attempt to infiltrate and control their lives, and all that surrounds them.

Breaking musical boundaries in the creation of what is considered to be a new genre of Japanese street music, Mars89 draws on a wide range of influences –such as sci-fi films– to conjure an eerie dystopian scene, inviting the listener to imagine a world on the brink of collapse as a tyrannical authority stands by idly. Embedded in the back cover of the album, Mars89 pays tribute to the working-class resistance; 'This album is dedicated to the city dwellers who live with the rats and crows in the gaps of the city where the giant capital tries to control everything'.

Opening the album with 'They made me do it', Mars89 manages to convey an uneasy welcoming party that tempts you to stay longer with flickering distorted explosions of sounds, then further captivates us with 'Tete Apotre' by using a series of vivid, and energising hushed tones that are somewhat opaque and abstract, making it difficult to identify the echoes as human or not. Accompanied by hollering alarms overhead and hurried echoes, the standout track 'Dick Laurent is dead' emits a dark, pulsating soundscape through the repetition of a distant voice stating; 'Listen up, told you once told you twice; You know I'm in this'. Signalling what could be perceived as the brink of frustration, or a looming warning.

Through a combination of incessant bells and rhythmic distorted drums across the ten tracks, a building sense of urgency before a life-altering decision must be done begins to form in the listener. With its shuddering rhythms, abrasive whirring, and ominous chimes contributing to the ways in which the sounds break down into hisses and stark fluctuations between texture and volume; the surreal nature of this experimental album will enthral you.
 With every riveting listen, we are offered a glimpse into something inconceivable through a plethora of celestial sounds. 'Visions' concludes with 'LA1937', a chilling 5 minutes track that suggests the end of a chase has been reached, bringing everything to a breath-taking closure.

Shanghai/Taipei-based producer Tzusing returns with  一瞬千擊 (In a Moment a Thousand Hits), continuing his exploration of the seamier side of life as his music mutates from industrial and EBM roots into stranger territories. Like the titular martial arts master of his recent LP 東方不敗, who can only achieve invincibility by denying  his own masculinity,  一瞬千擊 asks if obsessive pursuit of a specific identity can only lead to its negation, the opposite of the intended image. Amidst the malevolent throat singing samples, suona-like drones, and occasional shouts and howls in Taiwanese, the music’s slamming percussive weight nods towards the most reviled forms of mainstream dance music. Treating every available tool as valid, Tzusing interrogates taste, constructed identity, and the desire for power through five tracks of destabilized funk and thundering processions.

Aquarian and Deapmash debut on Bedouin records with their first collaborative EP, "Aegis" as  "AQXDM". Despite living on two separate continents and having never met in person, they bonded over a love for breakbeat techno, grime, jungle, breakcore, and immediately wrote their first EP. Merging Deapmash's high energy, industrial grooves with Aquarian's idiosyncratic, genre-blending approach, the result is highly effective peak time techno infused with massive kick drums, spastic breakbeats and soaring atmospherics.

GOTH-TRAD formed new unit “EARTAKER” with Diesuck(vocal) and Masayuki Imanishi(noise) in 2017.

Aquarian - The Snake That Eats Itself

Canadian born, Berlin based producer @Aquarian makes his full length album debut The Snake That Eats Itself on Bedouin Records. This record follows his collaborative EPs with Deapmash as 'AQXDM" and is his first solo release since his 2016 experimental mixtape for Quiet Time.

Nearly five years in the making,The Snake That Eats Itself is Aquarian's most complex, diverse and emotive work to date, plunging his trademark UK sound-system / techno hybrids into a self-contained, cinematic universe streaked with heavy influences from industrial, IDM, drone and dark pop music. Written in Brooklyn, New York, in a deeply transitional, yet seemingly endless period preceding his relocation to Berlin,the title of the album refers to the Ouroboros, a mythological serpent symbolizing the cycle of birth and death and infinity itself.

The Snake That Eats Itself pits Aquarian's most abrasive and brutal moments next to his most wistful and introspective. Viscerally thick layers of tape saturation envelop the album as sludgy synths ooze against brittle atmospheres; breakbeats fragment, explode and disintegrate into swarms of delay and noise; scorched, metallic percussion - sampled from a year-long demolition and construction project next to his apartment - forge the rhythmic backbone of the album. These elements, however, seamlessly make way to startlingly crystalline and shimmering ambient passages, offering a sense of reprieve and balance.

In the deepest hour of nightfall, an explosion occurs on

the horizon. An explosion so bright that daylight shows,

just for a moment. For the brief second, the landscape

is exposed, vulnerable, like the alb of a high priest.

4 figures stand on a stand of gold leaf, staring out

into a slow sea of crude oil. Invoke a violence from

the sea, they say. The light goes out, and stays out.


She Luv It carries in them an energy similar to a ritual of violence

that can be heard in the music of Northern Europe as well.

The recording quality is bright with vocals that chug through an

almost cassette-like sound. Bent notes harken back to Northern

European scenery of "woods" and "darkness",

but where they waded into shit politics rather than better

music, She Luv It begins on a sturdy foundation of technical

skill and intentional sound. Invoke the violence in yourself,

stare into the black sea, and scream until your throat

bleeds. This is She Luv It.
