The Drum Major Instinct (feat. Mara TK)

This first EP aims to re-create Fatback Brass Band’s powerful live sound –a unique combination of underground sounding hip hop, New Orleans brass an array of complex compositions reminiscent of other larger-than-life-projects such as Re:Freshed Orchestra (with whom Fatback Brass Band had one member in common).

To celebrate the release of his exploration into the funk legend Sly Stone, Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius), Questlove presents the soundtrack from the film alongside a selection of unreleased tracks by legendary soul and funk pioneer Sly Stone.

The film itself explores the life, music, and cultural legacy of funk icon Sly Stone, highlighting the challenges faced by Black artists navigating fame.
