Orygn are an electronic dance duo based in Melbourne, Australia, consisting of Christobel Elliott and Daniel Ford. 

Their pulsating expression exaggerates the stark contrast between warm pop melodies and the cold of industrial or minimal wave. Elliott’s smooth, soulful vocals create an equilibrium when combined with Ford’s jagged articulations, forming impassioned and visceral dance music.

Orygn - Bound

Comprised of people totally fresh to music making as well as seasoned musicians from other acts (Caribou, etc) the music is an electronic yin/yang of beginner's mind exploration harnessed by experienced hands into an alluring and propulsive form, taking as their starting point mutual influence from Kosmiche synth, Creel Pone bootlegs and American Techno.

Their recordings and live show are done completely live using a unique collection of hardware only, a mess of wires, miniature synths  and drum machines run through obsolete phaser pedals.  Some songs are short analog immersions while others unfurl over peaks and valleys beyond the 10 minute mark but all are grounded in techno informed percussion, languid melodies and hand-made timbres.  Music that is equally capable of soundtracking a late night drive, psychedelic gathering, or 5am at a techno club depending on how loud your soundsystem goes.

Bathing - Left At The Pond

Feather Beds is the musical moniker of Dublin artist, Michael Orange. Play Dead is the first single to be taken from the second album, which was recorded in Montreal and Dublin and is scheduled for release in 2017. Mixed by Stephen Shannon (Adrian Crowley, Strands), Play Dead follows on from last year's critically acclaimed debut album, The Skeletal System.

Using field recordings, samples and found sounds and a dark, melancholic undercurrent, whilst still retaining a twisted pop sensibility – Feather Beds creates music that occupies the space between fragile electronica and a shoegaze aesthetic of noise and texture. It’s music that takes influence from pop to drone to noise/art rock to folk and everything in between. Formerly a drummer with Dublin bands, The Star Department, Subplots and Autumn Owls, he has spent the past number of years writing and recording with these bands, releasing records and touring extensively in Europe and North America.

The soft tones and blissful moods are based on dreamy electronic sounds surrounded by a glitchy pop personality. Daily Misconceptions - Insomnia Trap

Dayflower is a Leicester-based shoegaze band. The formation of the group was accidental and gradual. It started in 2013, when four musical misfits with a shared love of obscure '90s shoegaze and lo-fi pop got chatting outside a music venue in Leicester. Soon after, they began meeting to trawl through the absurdities of Youtube's underbelly, discuss HBO programmes and occasionally record a song. Then another song. And more songs.

Despite none of them ever intentionally 'forming a band', Alex, David, Chris and Simon somehow found themselves making music together, and they haven't stopped yet.

Imagine Big Star's most ear-warming melodies, adorned with M83-esque synth hooks and steeped in layers of gauzy, blissful noise, recalling My Bloody Valentine.

All carefully pieced together on an obsolete version of Cubase, in the kind of bedroom where Enid Blyton is still visible on the shelves and a tumble dryer is used for a chair.

Lush, ambitious pop, dreamed in from an other time / place.

Dayflower - Neverfriend

Lost Film began as the minimalist guitar pop project of Jim Hewitt in Easthampton, MA in 2014.  Having just moved away from Boston after spending several years playing under the moniker Orca Orca, Hewitt adjusted back to small town life by focusing on writing straight-forward, layered pop songs.  Mixed with an equal adoration of Sarah Records of the late 80's and Pacific Northwest bands of the early 2000's, Lost Film released their debut full-length Imago (The Native Sound) in 2015 followed quickly by the 4 song EP Temporary (The Native Sound) in 2016; both seeing praise from the likes of Noisey, DIY Mag, and GoldFlakePaint.

Lost Film - As You Were

Rainbrother is Bjarke Bendtsen’s (ex-The Migrant) new project with a group of musicians from the Copenhagen indie scene. The group released their first track earlier this summer, ‘East African Dream’, a tribal inspired track with chanting choir, a steady beat and slide guitar references to Pink Floyd.

The song is mixed by Noah Georgeson (Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, The Strokes) who has agreed to become midwife for Rainbrother’s first full length album.

Bendtsen ended The Migrant earlier this year in Austin, Texas at Austin’s Psych Fest, Levitation. Since the first Migrant album came out in 2010 he has been backed by musicans from Austin on his American tours and by fellow Danes when touring Europe.

The birth of Rainbrother marks an end of this era, settling down in Copenhagen and a move from indie folk to electric rock territory.

The electricity is present on the first Rainbrother live video for the song “Break Out”. The group will be releasing this song as a single later this autumn prior to the album release which will be out in February next year.

The Past - Waiting

P H O E N E is a French ambient electronic producer now based in Glasgow who collaborated for seven years with fellow Parisian artist SAYCET as a vocalist and songwriter on 'Through The Window' (released in 2011) and 'Mirages' (2015).

Dedicated to craft her own soundscapes for the past two years, she has been very active with two self-released EPs ('Dennistoun' and 'Anthem'), a split single with WOLF (ex Zoey Van Goey) and a series of cassette tapes with the first one entitled 'UN' freshly released in October 2016. 

She has also played shows in quick succession in her newly adopted city (most notably as support for LOSCIL at the Glad Cafe in November 2015 and BRAIDS in June 2016).

PHOENE - Eugene

Kill Your Boyfriend is a two-piece band formed in Treviso (Italy) in 2011. At the moment they consist of Matteo Scarpa (guitar/vocals)  and Antonio Angeli (drums). 

After a 6-track EP (2011) in 2013 they released their self-titled debut album out on Shyrec Label.

Last year they played more than 80 gigs in top clubs and festivals, both in Italy and abroad. 

Two years after their debut album they released a  10” split featuring New Candys (IT) and a new album titled “The King Is Dead” in 2016, consisting of ten new tracks named after male monikers.

Since the birth of the label in 1997, FatCat has always had a solid engagement with material sent to us as demos. Where numerous labels will throw demos straight into the trash unopened, at FatCat we've always made an effort to listen and reply to every demo received. Numerous FatCat artists have been picked up having been discovered in this way (including Frightened Rabbit, The Twilight Sad, David Karsten Daniels, Welcome, Odonis Odonis, Get Back Guinozzi!, Silje Nes, Ensemble, Xinlisupreme, Songs Of Green Pheasant, Janek Schaefer - to name just a few), and it has always been really exciting to unexpectedly discover something great in this way. Just as when we started, this philosophy of keeping an ear to the ground and attempting to support good new creativity remains at the core of what we do.

With rapid changes in technology of recent years, the majority of demos are now sent to us electronically, but we are still happy to receive material through the post as CDs (please mark as 'demo submission' and mail FatCat Records, PO Box 3400, Brighton, BN1 4WG). Whilst we are still receiving a high quantity of demos, with our ever-busy release schedule and ongoing commitments to an expanding roster of signed artists, FatCat are now finding fewer opportunities to physically release material from new artists. As an antidote to this, back in 2004, we began using our website to showcase the best of the demos we were receiving. Alongside a DIY microsite built specifically to help people who wanted to release their own music, we hosted the our favourite demos online, with artwork and MP3s available for free download. In 2010 we began to use the more immediate freedom of SoundCloud as a platform - setting up a dropbox for people to submit tracks to and a player on the front of our site to showcase the best demo submissions. 

In February 2012, the new and improved FatCat demo site you are now using was launched, again using SoundCloud as the engine to drive the site. We have kept all of the the original demo artists on the new site - grouping them in collections archived by year. There is a lot of really great material stored away here, so please do spend some time looking around. 

The choices of who we have asked to join this archive are highly selective, and we make no apologies for this. These are tracks we consider to be really good quality material, tracks that we are happy to help promote and to have associated with FatCat.
