Join https://soundcloud.com/francescamackay for this month's episode of Architextures, a 2-hour musical journey inspired by Ecological Art and the works of artist Nancy Holt. 

Nancy Holt pioneered the use of outdoor art as a platform for environmental activism in the 1970s, at a time when land artworks actively damaged the environment they were created on. She introduced ideas central to environmental protection, conservation, and stewardship that were not initially central to contemporary land art, seeking to frame, rather than rival, the natural environment surrounding her site-specific installations. Her minimalist strategy sought to reinforce our connection with nature, attuning the senses to the surrounding ecological world.
"I have a strong desire to make people conscious of the cyclical time of the universe" the artist once said.

The recent IPCC report only stated what we already new; that human activities are unequivocally and irreparably damaging the Earth’s ecological systems. This month’s Architextures, in the music’s names, words and sounds, seeks to reflect the necessity of global collaboration and social justice in preserving and protecting the natural environments in which we live.

The Berlin based Singer/Musician/Record Collector delivers a beautiful & tender mix for the MFI´s series.

Heard at Heiners playing tunes late into a quiet autumn night, @MARLAIS caught our attention with his sensitivity which led to discover more and more of his sonic universe through the music he makes on labels like Treibender Teppich or @Kin-ship and the one he plays out when DJing at bars or for his monthly Gurkenmusik broadcast on @MutantRadio.

After watching some of his videos, @ecoutesauvert invited him back in Nov. 2021 to play a concert at a sold out triple bill show at Loophole, where his talent was lay bare to see.
 
MARLAIS sings traditional British and Irish folk songs in a traditional acapella way and also set to a sonic tapestry of organ drones, arpeggiated flutes and ambient textures that depict a mystical & romantic world. These folks songs in their stunning simplicity can be hypnotic, evocative and even subversive.

Music for Indoors 19 - MARLAIS (Mutant Radio - Berlin)

A mysterious producer named Martin Glass first emerged in 2017 with the release of an acclaimed LP which has since gone on to find some sort of strange cult following and admiration with certain circles.

"The Pacific Visions of Martin Glass" was released initially as a limited edition vinyl album but has since found a niche for itself between the realms of new age ambient and 80's hold music. It's wicked...

Anyway, when the mysterious Martin hit us up saying that he had a brand new project on the way at the tail end of last year we thought it might be the perfect opportunity to lock him down and ask if he's like to record a mixtape. After a lot of back and forth, many phone calls, a lot of hold music and some grumpy receptionists he eventually agreed.

The result is this wonderful dreamscape, just under an hour of magical weaving ambience, downtempo and a nod to 'Love On A Real Train' all thrown in for good measure. It's a bit special...
