When I'm Not Myself (EP) - Kafayé

“I Want to be free”

An unfinished demo that was supposed to come out after my ep “It’s So Much Easier Being Honest When I’m Not Myself”.
I’ve decided that instead of attempting to finish it, I’d share what my songwriting process is like. 

To paint a picture of the setting:
I’m in my room, the lights are dimmed, smoke is in the air and I’m sitting at my desk listening to the instrumental on loop. Something about the drums and smooth chords makes me think of a New York summer. 

I allow myself to openly express how I feel as melody and words flow freely from my mind to the mic. 10 minutes has passed and nothing else comes out. I create a new track in Logic Pro X and start the process all over again. Allowing new inspiration to flow as I improv over the previous recording. I do that 2 to 3 more times filling out the gaps, and adding harmonies where I see fit.

I bounce the file to my demo folder where it gathers dust with the rest of my words and emotions.
