Marcal is back for round two on Dustin Zahn’s Enemy Records with “Cyber Dystopia.” Marcal’s trademark grooves and clever vocal processing make this one of his most exciting and hypnotic records yet. It’s pure class…there isn’t much else to say!

BUT we have to try anyway…
“Cyber Dystopia” starts off with Bionic Jungle, a trippy peak time roller sprinkled with uh, lifeforms or something? We haven’t been able to identify them, which is just proof that Marcal is living on another planet we haven’t been to yet. We’re standing by for the invite.

Moravex’s Paradox picks up where Bionic Jungle left off…chugging along in his signature style. It’s loopy. It’s tooly…but still heavy on the grooves, making it a perfect fit in deep and peak time sets alike.

Nothing About the United States hits a little harder and darker. Dissonant drones and catchy sound design take over, flipping the switch from “party” to “punish.” For fans of his recent track on Enemy, “Never Wrote This.”

Don’t Fear the Three is a classic Marcal percussive workout in heads-down mode. It’s as equally powerful as every other track on the record.

“Cyber Dystopia” is all about the world we are living in right now: artificial intelligence, smart houses, smartphones, self-driving cars, deepfakes, fake news, cybernetic warfare, metaverse, social networks, the internet of things, machine learning, virtual reality...
We are definitely entering a new stage of civilization, the post-modern era.
But,
Are we living an 'apocalypse of self-abdication' already? Or we are, as humans, simply evolving as technology evolves? There will ever be a limit to technology? Will it help as much it can also destruct?

We will find out soon.

A2. Moravec's Paradox

At the age of 16, Shinedoe was already comfortable in the club. The Dutch artist started dancing at parties as a part-time job while studying before finding her way behind the decks. She landed her first big DJ booking at Amsterdam club Paradiso at the tender age of 19 and her first single, "Dilemma," from 2004, quickly became an Ibiza favourite. All of this is to say that she knows how to move a room.

Influenced by Detroit techno pioneers like Robert Hood, Shinedoe's mixes and productions are full of jacking kicks and big-room basslines. Funky, slamming rhythms are her forte and even when she focuses on minimalist tech house or darker sounds, there's always some zest sprinkled in, in the form of electro and breaks.

For her RA Podcast, the Intacto Records and Music That Moves founder offers a variety of powerful techno cuts. There's DJ Godfather's turntablist take, her own acid-tinged mindbenders and a hard, no-nonsense banger from Glasgow duo Slam to conclude. It's the kind of punchy mix that can pull in any kind of dance music fan, techno head or not.

I pen this with an open heart, and a chugga-chugga in my two step,

Nervous, Nauseous and definitely highly strung, to share this with you is how I have felt for the last two months - I would say I found my Sound 3 is here as a part of Parental Guidance 15. A Shakespearean ode to the 2000’s, Hip-House rambunctiousness and the class of RnB turned UKG, some might say it’s perfect. 

My message is simple, dig deeper! a friend once told me there will always be more, more beats, more variety and more styles.

Basking in the underpinnings of RnB and Soul, this mix tells a love story of note. One which is for the heartbreakers, heartbroken and those are currently rejoicing in the sunshine and rays of love. Representing the deeper edits and newcomers of House Music, as the wheel of music turns, episode 15 is a continuation of “I found My Sound 3” which plays on the Detroit, and Ghetto aspects of House while making way for Indie and Alt Breaks. 

A clap back to todays heavy saturation with 4/4 as the new command and what may be complex to some, to me the complex repetitions of a triplet house beat reminds me of its origins, the spirit of funk and 80’s soul lives on - I attribute this to, too much Seal, Usher, Beyonce, Barry White and Bebe & Cece. What makes house so great is not the quick transitions or spontaneous changes, it’s the progress and patience attributed to the subtle changes and message behind the journey.

The countless memories and musical experiences that can span a life time are attributed to this induction. As Catherine known as Miss P lends us her ear for music appreciation, as a priceless addition to Parental Guidance. Known for her energy behind the decks, she steps in to give us a rendition that is dedicated to the smooth side of dance music.

With the aforementioned the board of trustees finally has its chairperson as a long time friend and source of inspiration validates her term of office, joining the family as Miss P with episode 30. What feels like a homecoming from someone I have shared many dance floors with since 2018, its reminder of the skill and razzmatazz deep within. 

I would describe her style and palatable, her tunes infectious and herself as colourful in her approach to music, with an appreciation for the soul and Jazz underpinnings of house music, there is no beat unfamiliar and no cue unintentional. As her tunes take us on a journey, creating bar landscapes and dance floor entry moments, the connection to enjoyment is felt! With glowing and intimate moments - this is my homie as I know her - Free, Bold, Creative and Fun!

GLIA presents Sticky Friends, an EP born from a turbulent time of personal tension, existential crisis, and creative intensity. Alongside remixes by Bailey Ibbs and Alberto Tolo, the release is a raw and introspective journey.

"Sticky Friends" captures the energy of a Watergate closing night spent with her closest friends. Driven by distorted synths, high energy, and an uplifting groove, the track builds through hypnotic vocal effects and gritty textures before breaking into a moment of clarity with glowing chords.

"Le Reste" is a stark contrast—a pure expression of pain following the collapse of her closest relationship. A haunting vocal sample of "sorry", a word she never received but always felt was hers, echoes through hypnotic, existential synths and a flowing melodic tempo, questioning reality in its wake.

Bailey Ibbs and Alberto Tolo reshape both tracks with their own intense and unique interpretations.

Bari-based underground mainstay Dona Basile, aka DJ Plant Texture, has been crafting forward-thinking techno for a decade, releasing on leading labels from Ilian Tape to Tresor Berlin. Adding to his rich catalogue, his label debut on SHDW’s Mutual Rytm sub-label X is a homage to the spirit of space travel. With the label boss already a long-time fan and having dropped tracks from this EP in his sets for a while, the partnership creates an ideal match for an artist and label looking to push the boundaries of the genre. With Basile’s distinctive style perfectly fitting with the label’s vision, each of the productions provides a tribute to space exploration - fusing analogue hardware and deep rhythmic invention while channelling everything from early sci-fi cinema to the 80s ambient soundtracks. “Space exploration is the ultimate metaphor for creative freedom. This album is my way of sonically mapping the cosmos, not through melody but through mood, modulation and motion”, notes Basile.

Opener ‘Wormhole’ is a raw, driving sound with synth pulses and jacked-up drums for peak time chaos, while ‘Echoes’ evokes ramps it up further with panel-beating percussive loops, earth-shattering bass and twisted stabs. The title track pairs more physical and booming drums with introspective synth craft that encourages deep thought. ‘Flex The Beat’ is the first of two digital only cuts and offers a chaotic collision of overdrive percussion, manic vocal loops and reversed stabs for utter dance floor carnage, before ‘Let It Go’ (Jungle Mix) provides a dark exploration of frenzied jungle breakbeats with drilling bass to close the offering.

Having turned one years old and in what still feels like a developmental phase, nothing stays the same and so we embody that by changing our look while continuing with our love for yellow.
